This story reminds me of a old joke that says something along the lines of “I reached my mid-life crisis and had the choice of either a sports car and a mistress. I choose the sports car because it was much much cheaper.” The Dad probably wishes he choose the sports car instead.

OP said the family line ends with him, but it doesn't have to. He can donate some sperm for the intended use of having his own children. Or he can use a gestational carrier/surrogate. I would definitely say if he is still able, I would recommend either option

I’m gonna say what the father did was horrible, but that is too damn far!! I get getting revenge because you know that’s your mother, but basically ripping this man’s life in half and taking away some of the only things he had left after his mistress left op justs ruining his life because he didn’t love someone anymore. Sure he was a cheating bastard and was just a shitty person. Overall, everyone deserves to have a life you could’ve just gotten revenge and let the man move on now it’s a constant reminder that he’s such an asshole while he’s sitting in his house that’s basically empty because of op!

Nothing is extreme in my opinion. If he hadn't have cheated, nothing would have happened. If he hadn't have lied about what happened, then the gossip wouldn't be as effective. If he hadn't have fought the divorce lawyer, then he may have been left with something. If he had have acknowledged his wrong, he may have had some kind of redemption, but he kept the mistress and fought tooth and nail because he didn't see what he did was wrong. So honestly, all it was, was karma, no matter how brutal.

Cheating, especially in a marriage, is still very much looked down on in the U.S.A.. Although it's probably not technically legal, it can definitely give you the upper hand in a divorce. Especially with a pre-nup.

So I am not condoning the cheaters actions BUT I just hope everyone saying this was legit remembers to never make a mistake themselves or face DIRE and life changing/ending consequences. The OP did what he thought was right and protected his mother and I can respect that but there is a line and it’s borderline crossed. I have been cheated on and it’s devastating but I acted like a big boy, pulled up my pants and moved on with my life. Sometimes being the bigger person and just walking away and showing it doesn’t affect you is a far greater revenge

I think they were both in the wrong. He went to far. He should have only done the house and the family tradition party. Think of the golden rule. Also, if you believe in Christianity, then you will know that the dad will suffer in hell is he doesn’t change his ways. The better thing to do is to try to make him become a better person. Revenge might feel good, but it will only make them stoop to his level. So, the OP is somewhat the jerk, and he should’ve been the bigger man

I think he is an evil person. You have to accept that people getting divorce and it is very normal nowadays. Have your dad get 50% less pension that was really out of line. Taking all the furnitures and then don't even use them it's a shame! Throwing back the cancer money that they spent on him is disgusting as well. So this story is full of shit people. I am actually planning a nuclear revenge against my dad, only because he is my father do I even consider him a person, but I avoid him as best as possible, because 1 he is abusive if he doesn't get his way, 2, he has drove me to the point of suicide on I want to say about 2 to 5 different times in less than 1 year, 3, he has never been honest with me and he basically treated me like I was trash from 11 to now, and 4 he keeps trying to tell me I owe him 20,000 because he raised me by himself and other lies, first if my mom really wanted to she could charge him over 10,000 which he owed in child support, because I am no longer a child and the judge ruled that he had to pay until I was 18 or I came to live with him, 2nd he has been with my stepmom since I was about 2 and a half officially, last but not least, I have only lived with him for about 26 months my entire life, my stepmom is also going to regret he choices because she hated me since she and my dad got together, she just pretended she loved me, and she disowned her own son because he chose to live with his father and visit her every other weekend, and the day she came home from court about that, me and 2 of my siblings on that side were told he was ran over by an ambulance, so me, my stepbrother, and the rest of his family are working on getting their kids taken, my father being in jail for the rest of his life which honestly probably won't be for more than 2 decades, and my siblings choosing their own path without those two two judge them, lie to them, and hurt physically, emotionally, and somewhat mentally because my oldest little brother is not going to end up in a good place if his behavior doesn't change, but he is 18 so ge can do what he wants, my sister who is becoming a boy, who was told by her own mother that she has to marry a Jewish male doctor and she is only 16, and they have been telling her that for at least 7 years, and my dad's youngest kid who, is only 9 and is very clearly the favorite and is probably being raised to lie, cheat, and steal, since my father has taught every one of his kids from my step brother/ cousin to the 9 year old because that's what my family on that side has taught for about 3 generations, I struggle with depression, addiction and anxiety, and my father has always been the guy who pulls the old you have nothing to be sad about card, and believe if you aren't doing what he wants he can get physical, although he is terrified of trying that with me anymore, because the last time he did, he threatened to kill me if I didn't pay him the 20k, my friend was coming over already that day, and he does own a gun and will kill you if he feels the need too, and he saw my father pull out a knife my friend called the cops and then pointed his gun at my father, the cops arrived a few minutes later, and we decided not to press charges, because we both knew my dad would be out the same day, so we asked them to go around the corner and if he didn't leave in 5 minutes we would press charges, and my friend put the gun straight in between his eyes and told him if he ever came within 100 feet of me he would be in the morgue, I got a restraining order that's says he can talk to me but only on the phone and he even comes within 500 feet of me or my property, he would be jailed for life
