My mom came here with a short term visa, with 10k in debt, lived in 400/month apartment, only had little cash with her. She told me the first night she didn’t know where to stay so she begged people to let her stay. 5 years later I was 14 years old, my mom secured her green card and eventually got approval of me coming to the U.S. Now I’m 18 years old and my mom is already a naturalized citizen. Im going to attend prestigious college in the U.S, and she has opened up 2 businesses and one upcoming. We made it, and I promised after I graduate college I will never let her suffer from starvation, fear, and loneliness again.

Glad you mentioned that he paid taxes. I hear hateful stories about "illegals" and how they aren't taxpaying amarican citizens (but if they have a real job, they're still paying taxes while undocumented) who mooch off the government (except government aide isn't available to non-citizens). Plus, in the past, there was no process to becoming a citizen, you just showed up. Illegal Immigration is a modern concept, and I hate how people treat undocumented people like... not people. I even hate the way people say "illegals", like referring to an object. Yeah, maybe people should follow the process we have set, you can have that opinion, but can we at least recognize that even people who do things the wrong way are still human beings? Still contributing? Still trying? Are not "less than"?

@@Dralyn06 I am actually an involuntary immigrant. Father was American, Mother was German, I was born in Germany... my dad decided he wanted me to grow up in America. My passport photo is of me as a literal infant. I find it unfair that other people have to struggle so much more to gain citizenship. I don't understand all of the anti-immigrant people, either. America was founded by immigrants, and whatever happened to "give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses"? I don't relate to the people who are anti-immigration. I just don't get it.

Roxana Rodriguez what about people who have immmigrant parents but their parents were able to immigrate legally? My dad, technically speaking, is an immigrant but he's from England and could immigrate legally so I don't think I'm what you're talking about but I understand that it must of been so hard for her parents and anyone else who suffers from this just because we haven't experienced it doesn't mean we can't empathise

@@cerysgibby7542 key word is "were able to". Prejudice unfortunately plays a big part in decisions that should be made in an unbiased way but that's just not the case. Time after time it somehow becomes even more difficult for immigrants to travel legally over the dumbest reasons that some people just don't understand, or are simply fortunate enough to not have it happen to them.

Your comment alone stands to show that you don't empathize. The fact is developing countries do not get the same chance to travel abroad legally to find new homes the same way someone from England or Germany can. This would be why no one ever hears about an Irish father getting detained by ICE (not to mention racism). Between the many hoops and approval phases you go through to attain a travel visa to somewhere like America, it could take 2-5 years for that to happen.

“Why couldn’t he have entered legally” just from reading those types of comments I can assume are people who are legally here and were born here who don’t understand the trouble it takes to receive legal entry. Yes he did break the law but no one would’ve given him the chance to enter legally she even said that they wouldn’t let him apply for a green card to enter legally so yes he kinda had to break the law but is it a bad thing to want to see your family again. If someone had entered illegally then leaves the country then wants to come back to become a legal citizen the chances of that happening become very very slim so I’d at least give him the benefit of the doubt

This story is so inspiring and has such a beautiful ending, You have such an amazing father and I'm so happy he fought for you guys. Now you're reunited and it makes my heart so happy. I once crossed the border with my parents when I was 6 years old. We had a person guide us through the desert. I still remember it vividly we stayed in an RV in the middle of the desert. I could hear the coyotes howling throughout the night. We eventually crossed the border and stayed in a strangers house for the night. Thank God we made it safely a lot of people died trying to cross the border. I am now an American Citizen and I am so grateful that God has given me an opportunity to live the American dream. I am in college now studying criminal justice so that one day I can help people like me. Thank you for sharing your story!!!
