I've realized that consistency is what you need to do to get better, I would always draw whenever I felt like it or had a cool idea pop in my head. A few months ago I tried gesture drawing everyday I only did it for about a week but filled pages full of drawings, I improved so much and my understanding of anatomy and the way the body moves increased greatly. Then I stopped because I had no discipline :/ I hope everyone here and myself can build discipline so we can become the artists we want to be, we just gotta keep at it 💪
@jsnk402

I'm curious, what do you mean by discipline? For me, I also try to draw everyday but sometimes I lose motivation and then have degrading thoughts that I'm not good enough as an artist. But I also make sure to look back at my progress to get rid of those thoughts!

The "Saitama Method" is also a good name for another reason: The creator of One Punch Man, (He goes by name ONE), started making One Punch Man comics back when his art skills were absolutely terrible (which was sort of the joke at first). The funny thing being that he drastically improved his art skills A LOT by consistently drawing the manga despite it all. Zooming forward, the manga were re-illustrated by another artist, (this is also the art style for the anime) but ONE's other project Mob Psycho was so polished by the time it got an anime, that they didn't have to change styles.

I've been drawing seriously for over a year and realized I didnt reach a level anywhere close to yours. Again, this has been said in the video, but again: train based on discipline. I drew when i felt motivated and spent sometimes weeks without touching a pen and that got me practically nowhere. This video helps me greatly because it gives me an objective, concrete exercises I can practice, and sometimes the best advice comes from someone who's still learning themselves. I am absolutely baffled at your art, and thank you for helping people like me who still need guidance :D
@marcos.a8814
@marcos.a8814 Жыл бұрын
The best exercise is instead of comparing your art to others, go back to your first sketches and compare on what you've imporved upon, that's going to help you feel a lot better because it's direct improvement and you feel nice seeing that you aren't where you started. Stay consistent and you will get it.

@marcos.a8814
@marcos.a8814 Жыл бұрын
@@Vollmond720 yeah it's unfair to yourself to compare to others especially since everyone has their own style. Im not an amazing artist by any means but i try to draw every day. My advice would just be don't lack on the fundamentals, practice them often, and most importantly inspiration and stealing are two different things. It's ok to learn how your favorite artist draws noses, eyes, etc. There's nothing wrong with that as long as you're not just copying. Also, tracing, i wish I would have known about tracing sooner, it helps your hand retain the muscle memory to draw. So keep at it and I'm sure you'll be doing great soon

Just as saitama said humans are strong because they have the power to change. But that change does not happen unless you are determined to. Ive been drawing since i was a kid and started practicising 2-3 years ago cant say i have drastic improvement but i do have subtle improvements. Whether it was achieving to draw perfectly or draw a somewhat perfect circle in one go. Its up to you if you want to see it as part of your improvement! Bare with it and youll have what you always longed for!

Consistency is definitely the key here. I practiced drawing on again off again for years but it wasn't until 9 months ago that I really hit my stride when I started drawing more consistently. And then 3 months ago I read that experimenting was a necessary step after learning and studying and from there my world expanded. All this time I never realized that I had to expand myself and the keys were consistency and experimenting

Your body is like, yes, I've drawn this before. Every movement follows simple rules that always repeat themselves. Same goes for effects like explosions or lightning. If you memorize the basics, you'll be able to draw whatever you like :3 great video , thanks for sharing your method!

Good video! Just remember, gesture drawing shouldn't use an eraser or undo. It's quick and is meant to be about flow. Just draw over the mistake when gesture drawing otherwise you'll always be expecting to hit undo even when you don't need it which breaks your tempo.

I try my best to get atleast 2 hours of drawing every day, or overall roughly 14 hours a week on Art over the last 2 years. Nearly all my pieces lately have been better then the last and my understanding seems to be getting better at each one. Some times you just gotta brute force some shit

But, I guess seeing you draw and how well you do it fuels me to try harder. I am a beginner. So this is awesome to watch. I still aim to create my own manga one day. So I obviously have to learn to draw to get started. Yikes!? Sort of. But it's a start. Edit: You are very good at teaching beginners as you take details in people and understand them. Yes, it is overwhelming. Yes, sometimes you don't want to draw. Yes, on everything else. Its s struggle as you have to figure out how to do certain things. But you nail it. Different approaches. How you do it sounds great as it helps those that are not strong in drawing anatomy to focus less on detail. Just focus on the poses and draw from there. That is wonderful advice. Thanks.

Funny enough, I actually started doing gesture drawing a few weeks ago .I try to do at least 30 min of a bunch of gesture drawings. I also felt unsure on how to start a gesture drawing .So, this video helped a lot. Thanks!

This is the overlooked fact of drawing and animation is you only get better as long as you practice. Your not going to wake up the next day and suddenly understand.

Your rate of progress in a year is clearly steady enough that you intuitively figured this out (and I can see it in your chosen examples for the video), but it bears repeating as this trips a lot of people up: drawing constantly can result in little progress without specific exercises, that's one major point. Another point though, is that you must learn to watch for "sticking points" in your proficiency - things that aren't improving even if you've been drawing every day. When you learn to see these red flags, it means focus practice is in order even if that isn't one of the primary exercises you've been disciplined about sticking to. If you're having a lot of trouble figuring out how feet work, for example - do feet! Take them apart (... metaphorically...) from every angle, get deeply into their construction and function. Another common example is, obviously, hands - hands are very complicated and difficult to learn. This is something else to spend some focus time on. An additional advantage of focus time is it provides a break from primary disciplines to avoid them getting boring, but they are still quite productive. They present a way to simultaneously take a break yet continue progressing.
