Thanks for demonstrating a clear picture of teaching and collecting data in a consistent circle to ensure the student gain the necessary skills for them to reach their goals. I have seen multiple times where a student is given assignments to be assessed on a particular concept, yet the child has never been pre-taught the concept. I enjoy all your videos. You also have an amazing personality which is comforting as a viewer. Thanks for sharing.

You are incredible!! You are so right about not getting enough practical classroom experience. There are so many components to being a sped teacher and it is impossible to get a grasp of even half of those skills you are going to need. Your behavior background gives you a unique edge on many in our field. Setting up your class, procedures, explicit instructions with modeling for everything, etc. is so so important. I’ve been in this field for 10 yrs and I have learned some valuable things from you today and I will be putting them into practice;) Thanks!❤️❤️

First, let me say that I LOVE your channel!! I’m a resource teacher /case manager who also serves some behavioral needs of my autistic students. In regards to data collection, I use Google Forms, and it’s very helpful for tracking data over a period of time. The spreadsheet and graph options are available, and provide a quick reference while prepping for ARD meetings.

For students with autism, fear and anxiety has taken over the brain, and because they don't know they can say "I don't know" (and truthfully might not even realize what they are feeling is because they don't know), it's amazing how much improvement you can see in sitting in the uncertainty when we teach them social referencing and that it's ok not to know something. The therapies they are given teaches them to think in black and white, there is always a right answer (and they are always in the responding role), so it amplifies the anxiety they already have due to the fact they don't resolve uncertainty like other people do through social referencing, and with the individual sensory overload going on. I also have seen really great responses to checking in each morning with how are you feeling this morning? Most autistic children don't have anyone who actually asks them how they are doing. It's demands all day long. You'd be surprised how many kids will tell you they have headaches frequently, they feel tired that day or even sick...but if we don't ask, they aren't going to volunteer it. They may even need to be taught to understand how they feel and that it actually means something to the person teaching them.

I’m a paper and pencil person so I document everything on charts and then I put the goal charts in a binder separated by kiddo. I also have another binder with assessments (letter, number, color and shape) separated by kiddo too. My kids have a lot of the same goals so it’s not too bad thankfully.

Hi Braelan, I just wanted to say that I really love your videos and you are amazing!!! It’s really great to see such a great education content that talks about classroom management, IEP, para professionals and other topics. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on the education initiatives you discussed in your piece. Anyways, I just want to ask a question on what probably the best thing to do to start your first day of teaching because this is my first time working in US (thanks to your videos I got an offer) and I dont know how to start. Any tips you can give? I’ll surely appreciate it. Thank you, I loved your work and I’m looking forward to watch your upcoming videos. ☺️

There is a big difference between digital vs. automated forms. Google Docs / Word / XL are not automated - they still require manual data entry, have limited workflow, and it's an unstructured database that you're building here. Reporting years down the road or even being able to build a student profile for the current year would be impossible with this approach to data collection. Teachers spend on avg. 49 working days per year filling out manual forms like this. For a better way, check out www.weareclevr.com. 115 districts have already switched to clevr. All of our energy and passion goes into solving this data collection problem in schools. Our wheelhouse is Special Education: IEP, Clinical Referrals, ELL Benchmarks, Literacy/Numeracy, Medical Plans, Psych Notes, Meeting Logs, Behaviour Plan, Competency-Based Report Cards. Please reach out to us.

If you think that the teachers who are watching my channel for free resources are going to put for something like this you are sorely mistaken. Also if you think that teachers who are trying to find ways to survive while working for districts that do not support them with parents, curriculum, or purchasing large subscriptions then you are not well informed. These videos are meant to to give struggling teachers options that are within their budget and control. Taking data when you are desperate and have never been given any resources is a scary place. Please stay off of my channel and out of my comments. Educators are trying to find free alternatives and ways to make it streamlined on their schools google suites. There is no magic sauce to making anything “easier”. Thank you are good night.
