Nice to see a proper in-depth "Guide" to a character, rather than a "build" video. This video covers everything that someone wanting to learn Abrams might want - what's the best way to use your abilities, what's the most valuable thing you can do at different stages of the game, what things should you look out for that will pose a problem for you, and how do you mitigate those. You also include a fully reasoned build, talking about the purpose of each item in the build, and why you included each item. Too many videos just say "This build does loads of damage. Do this build order for abilities and items, and go crazy", without including how to best apply them in the context of a real game. Great video. Liked and subbed.

yo, big overwatch nerd here, i coach that game and our concepts of peel and zoning are extremely hero specific, and not tied to role. they're also incredibly abstract. I agree that it doesnt transfer perfectly but some abilities like paradox wall and mo kril unburrow are almost 1-to-1 mirrors of abilities that we assign that macro function in overwatch. I think there's a LOT of potential for deliberate isolation and peel in deadlock, at least in fights, and we just havent really started to explore it yet. In ow it took a good year or two for those ideas to get fleshed out, and i think that's gonna be true for deadlock too. hope u see this and find it interesting!

I personally always liked being a jack of all trades in games, the problem always is ther nobody likes it when you aren't in a specific roll. In deadlock it kinda works with Seven and infernus. Seven can slow, stun, reduce spirit resist and has a potential teamfight carring ult. So with the right items he can do "everything" Infernus isn't that much the case but with the right items he can do it also kinda good. Slow on 1, engage with flame dash + ult, 3 for dot, reduce spirit damage. With inhibitor you reduce their damage even more and with ricocchet you can spread it. With leech and resistence items you can also become very tanky!

I'm pretty high rank in overwatch. Have been gm. I think you described why tank works in ow pretty decently. It is true that because the game is about 1 objective at any given time, everyone is forced to go through a tank in some way. Tanks either take advantage of the fact that you have to touch point and kill/force cooldowns of those that DON'T want to be on point. IE: Ball and Doomfist don't really want to hold point, but they usually go for people rotating to point. While characters like Rein or Orisa will stop people from getting to point or stop them from going to a position to fight for point optimally or can just force the point themselves. The biggest difference, imo is the multiple points. If you were forced to fight over one objective like in overwatch, tanky characters would be far more powerful. But in deadlock there are a dozen viable things that every member of a team can be doing at any one time. You just aren't forced to "get through" the tank. Therefore the idea of tank is a lot more fluid. Tanking in deadlock is more about engaging imo. Which IS similar to overwatch, but the way you engage is very different and you can tank without being a fat boy with a lot of hp.
@KoolAidManOG2 ай бұрын
Solid explanation. The thing he misses because he hasn't played OW is that the different modes don't have a cart, but they do all force fights around changing objectives. Same intent either way!

I feel the same way about Kelvin that you do for Abrams. I feel like no other character really slots into the pure support role quite like Kelvin, and so I have almost zero interest in other characters. When I do branch out and play Mo and Krill, Dynamo, Viscous, etc. I just play them as damage dealers, and typically have a lot less fun, even when I do well. Very frustrating because I have a friend with thousands of hours in DOTA 2 who constantly plays with me, but shames me for "maining" and tells me I'll never be good until I learn how to play the whole roster. I simply don't want to play characters like Wraith, Infernus, etc. It's not that I disagree with him, but that I don't have fun playing them. Really hoping we get more characters who naturally fill that support shaped void in the cast, because gun Dynamo and spirit Ivy really are just better than whatever support build you might try to force.
@skave72282 ай бұрын
I love the fact it dos not have side content for now. To game modes, no monetisation or anything. Just the game. That is really rare recently, even more in multiplayer games. I don't expect it to stay this way but I'll enjoy it for as long as I can.
@tavish16582 ай бұрын
10:12 Kelvin and Ivy were not nerfed just because they were considered strong, but because they got way more out of their respective builds compared to every other hero in the game. Kelvin would gun people down just 8-10 minutes into the game, dealing a thousand damage or more in a few seconds with his gun alone. Same story with Ivy, who would just spam Kudzu bombs everywhere, covering entire lanes and dealing around 70% of her total damage with one ability.
@vtgare2 ай бұрын
You've just described how they were too strong at the same time as claiming that it's not why they were nerfed lol. I get your point about them stepping out of their role, but there are characters like Shiv that can build anything (melee, gun, spirit) and Valve has done nothing to prevent that.

Also: your videos on Deadlock are *great* so I hope you keep on keeping on. I wouldn't worry about the player drop off at this point - it's natural. Hell we should take a look at DOTA 2 and CSGO's early time player numbers, especially CSGO is a bit of a exception that proves the rule kinda deal. People generally love the game, but there's always an initial burst of players that try it out due to hype, realize that they can't stand MOBA-ish games and back off after a bit. It's the slow *growth* up until launch that Valve should be aiming for imho :p Just like they did with CS back then.

I def think this is less complex than Dota 2, and a bit more than HotS and Overwatch, but deep games are so much fun once you get over that initial learning! I also hope with more players the matchmaking gets better so you can introduce friends without them then getting matched around your rank. It is not fun as a beginner to get wrecked in lane in this game...
@doolioart33145 күн бұрын
From my experience with about 10 people who abandoned it, it was exclusively the "feelsright" factor. This I mean on a very fundamental level, not as in "wow I did an insane play and now I feel good". I know people who quite literally despise OW, who hop on it every now and then just to headshot someone a couple of times, for example and that aspect can't be marred by end game result, someone trolling or even a general dislike of the entire game, characters and mechanics. All those reasons of course are important, which is why they fire it up once every three months for an hour, but they still do it. Every single person I know, about ten of them, who bounced off when it comes to Deadlock, did it because of lack of that. Some of them even played for like 200+ hours and got very good at even advanced stuff, some for 10. But, it was unanimous when I asked them. And it also doesn't have anything to do with where the game is in the development stage either, so it's not some polish thing. That particular type of reason people bounce off is tricky because it can't be offset by objectively good things such as, whatever, good MM, role popularity discrepancy being alleviated by archetypes being flexible, enjoyable loop and so on. It's too fundamental of a thing, it's like a lizard brain level of feedback. None of them left because of the learning curve or the concept of the game or anything like that either. As I mentioned, it was unanimous, which I actually never saw happen with them. I am kinda playing it, but I feel the same looming presence of it and who knows what future brings in my own case.

I personally only have 84 hours, but I still learn a lot each day playing the game and that's what makes it very fun to me. I'm able to queue as a bunch of characters I enjoy and let the game decide, try different builds to see what I enjoy, learn better routes via movement and jungle timers. The item shop is fun to figure out what counters specific characters and what works with the characters I play. I've never really enjoyed MOBAs that much, but it's really fun.

Dude I fully understand. I am 300 hours in and its the only game I want to actually be good at. It is so fun. I even changed my entire KZbin channel to center around it lmao

Seeing Marco’s 89 hours in 2 weeks to my 59 hours in the same time: I have rookie numbers. Gotta pump those numbers up.

Mo & Krill would be more of a tank if they weren't 75% head hitbox

Is there a Metro cameo in the next Abrams guide? He is becoming a staple in your videos and i love it

Metro: "You're terrible at the game. Uninstall." Teammate: "You're 1 fckn 7!!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Saw this game when my laptop went bye bye (about one and a half months ago) and only have my new PC now for 5 days. Already locked in 20+ hours in this game and I swear it's so good. And I agree with your points. Especially the goofy one, even in my twenty hours as a very serious competetive player, I accidentily created moments that made me and my friends laugh out loud. And it's crazy to me how good this game feels. Tho I currently struggle to be efficient on the map at all, cause my League of Legends brain isn't braining well for this game, I love every game. I really hope this sticks cause I am having a blast I've not had with a game since years.

I mained both heroes of the storm and division 2 and completely agree. I havnt played either one of them since i started playing deadlock. It's so much fun.

I’m near 200 hours and having an absolute blast but I agree with your point that it will decline likely because others (and maybe myself) will fall off before main release. The constant updates have kept the games refreshing tbh, but I do hope they end up adding a Joust/3v3 game mode simply to have a change of literal pace in the game. With regular matches taking anywhere from 30-50 mins, a shorter game mode would be personally nice for when I get on discord and the fellas are 10 mins into a game lol

Cant wait for ranked to come out today! Really interested in how they manage a rank system that uses percentiles over points

been playing for a little over a month now and i gotta say this game has me by the balls lmao i love everything about it and its so refreshing that the game is constantly updated literally multiple updates every single day which cant be said about games like overwatch or fortnite. also seems like the devs care about balance and make sensible decisions with it instead of not listening to community members and going the blizzard route with it by basically telling their player base " we know better than you we are the devs" i cant wait to see where this game goes and im here for the long haul!!

It's in closed ALPHA, it's normal to have lots of updates as it's literally getting developed as you play
@spankyjeffro5320Ай бұрын
But they DO know better than you, they ARE the devs. You're not a dev, you have no game dev expertise, nor do you know how games are developed in general. YOU are a nobody. Why should anyone listen to you?

I went in thinking I was not going to like Deadlock at all, but I actually lived it right away. Really engrossing gameplay loop.

Great content, appreciate your work, and just love the youtubers like you. But, I have an idea. Can you make a pure gameplay video, with some commentaries to help out a little bit? This format can be very good for new players. What you think?

Deadlock consumed me for a few weeks there it 100% has a magic that a lot of other games lack as someone who played a ton of Overwatch I think Deadlock at this point has way more pull, it's been so fun I hope it keeps growing.

I'm just beginning my journey in this game so I'm taking in every bit of information you share. I've only played 1 bot match so I've got more hours on your videos than gameplay of my own. I'm excited to learn more about this game as the whole MOBA aspect is brand new to me. I do hope my years of hero shooter experience translates well in this game (coming from Paladins) One thing that is overwhelming me right away is the sheer amount of extra controls. I'm used to 4 ability buttons and that's it. So what are your keybinds? I'm struggling to find something comfortable.

Ever since playing pre nerf Top Tree Dawn in Destiny I’ve been waiting for a good competitive movement shooter. I haven’t been this hooked by a game in a while and I think the mini game of movement tech during the “boring PvE” parts of matches can keep the game fun for 1000s of hours and gives this game good staying potential in the gaming space

I'm coming from Overwatch mostly and love this game. I've always like the MOBA concept, and have tried league. But having this 3rd person is amazing. Great game. This will likely be a top 3 game for me years to come.
