I am getting this delivered today! I have been a finger pricker my whole life, been type 1 for 36 years, looking forward to having this continuous tracking. I really appreciated hearing your point of view on this. I have been watching all your videos the last couple of days & really enjoy hearing your point of view on being type 1. I realize now I am not alone in the issues I have. Living with this all these years I have not really spoken or listened to other type 1's, makes me realize now I should & it will be helpful for me. Keep up the great videos!

You are awesome! So informative and personable and wonderful humor that made us laugh and feel at ease. I started researching CGMs for my sister-in-law who has gestational diabetes during her first pregnancy and I just finished watching your Freestle Libre review from 2 years ago and now this Dexacom G6 and both were informative and gave me the answers we needed! Thanks girl! Keep smiling! 😃 I think I would recommend the Dexacom G6 bc of the alerts and she needs that support but let's see how she feels about the places for inserting the device...the arm on the Libre seems more comfortable BUT I think the pros with the G6 out weight it. Thanks!

Thanks for this posting. I have been anticipating the DexCom for a couple of years. Considered the G5 but didn’t think it delivered what I needed or wanted. DexCom stayed in contact with me for last 2 years regarding the development of the G6 and it’s approval from Medicare. So now we have it! Hooray! I am now waiting for the delivery of the system, due tomorrow. I am a T1, brittle diabetic and I’m somewhat anal about my numbers. Ive been diabetic for 45 years and have been testing 5+ times a day. I have no sense of touch in my fingers so this is such welcome news for me. Loved the video, gave me great information and was uber helpful

Thanks for the video!! I'll be getting my g6 shipment in 3 days and my iPhone and iWatch tomorrow. I think this will help me so much because I get crazy lows and highs almost every day. Like you I am very active, at work I'm on my feet all day and I ride my bike every day. Thanks again for the video it was very informative!! I'm looking forward to be getting this system so much!! BTW, I've had type1 since 2011 and was diagnosed at the age of 43 and at first it was easier to control but as time goes along it's gotten harder. I have had Medtronic pumps and sensors but it's a flawed product because the sensors for me are always way off and the transmitter kept going bad. Medtronic replaced 3 transmitters in 3 months and when the 3rd one went bad I gave up on using the pump on "Auto Mode".

Thank you for this video. My 20 month old toddler, who’s also waiting for an autism assessment, got diagnosed as type 1 last week. The diabetic team in our local hospital is training me up to be able to manage his diabetes for him, and his first dexcom g6 should arrive early next week and they want me to insert it! I’m brand new to all of this and being told they want me to insert a medical devise (that I’d never seen before and didn’t know much about) into my baby myself was really scary, but from your video I can see it’s pretty easy, and he’s getting so upset with constant finger prick tests that hopefully this will be much kinder to him, as he has no idea what’s going on and doesn’t understand why I’m having to stick needles in his fingers, arms and legs. But your video has made me feel less scared of inserting this devise and more reassured that it’s quite accurate and reliable, and should make for a happier little boy if I’m not pinning him down to check his blood several times a day! Thank you so much!

Useful video, thanks. Am currently on the third transmitter and it’s working great. Initially i was worried the adhesive would not hold for the full 10 days, but so far i’ve had no problems. This is my first CGM and i couldn’t be happier. Insertion is completely painless and once in, i forget about it. I calibrated initially, but the discrepancies were so small, i’ve stopped doing that now. Regarding cost, in Ireland both the sensors and transmitters are completely free of charge for all T1Ds, regardless of income or insurance. So i’m lucky on that front. The nighttime alerts are annoying, so i turn off the high alert and just leave the low one active. Though i have to say i usually wake up if i’m experiencing a low - weirdly the dream i’m having at the time always involves food!

Thankyou Andrea, It's important we can be an encouragement to others with this type 1. No one else really understands what it's like to live with it, except another type 1. Even the Doctor's and specialist. I have two family members diagnosed as infants who are so private about it, I can not talk to about it, find that frustrating. Keep up the good work of helping others

Rex Howells I completely and whole heartedly agree! Doctors are great, but sometimes I really feel that other t1d’s are the only ones that truly understand the entire scope of what it is to live with this condition, so I like the idea that we can all share tips and tricks and advice and just generally be there for one another! And at the same time, some people are private and prefer to keep their condition to themselves, which I completely respect too - it’s just such a personal disease. This is a safe place to share and rant and celebrate the ups and mourn the downs. I’m here for you, as are so many who are in this incredible community! :)

Hi, Thanks for this channel. It answers a lot of my questions and of course brings up more. I'm on a G5 and wondered if your dad had been having as much trouble as I'm having with the G5 sensors.Unfortunately, my sensors keep failing, It's absurd. I can't depend on it at this point because I keep getting triple question marks. . I'm thinking about going back to just finger sticks. I'm on Medicare in the US and they haven't started distributing the G6 to Medicare subscribers, supposedly the fourth quarter this year. Anyway, keep trucking :)

Great vid. I've been using the G6 for about 9 months now thanks to the NHS in London. After being Type 1 for over 25 years this has been life changing having lost hypo awareness. Now get alerts in the middle of the night. As you say it's a bit of a pain being woken up, but better than having loads of nightime hypos. It's now approved for use on the arm and I find it better there and it stays stuck there for me unlike on the abdomen (like you it starting coming off after about 6-7 days). One gripe is that I upgraded my mobile to the latest Samsung Galaxy S20+ in March and it never occured to me that it wouldn't be compatible. But it isn't yet. So have to use my teenagers old iPhone for the Dexcom. So think about this before you buy the latest mobile.

Thank you so much for this and the unboxing video. My 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 just three days ago and we are struggling so much with the finger sticks. She's doing really well getting her insulin shot but still cries and panics and absolutely hates the finger sticks which seem constant and relentless during these early days. Your video had lightened my heart knowing that there is a finger stick-free way forward for us and her tiny sore fingers. Thank you! Will be ordering the G6 for her TOMORROW xoxox

I have been T1D for 36 years and seen endrochronologists and doctors and JUST FOUND OUT INSULINE CAUSES SCARE TISSUE! It is very important to rotate injection sites as much as possible. I hope you doctor has told you about this. It will help with insulin resistance. I am pretty thin and don't have much body fat so I find I usually inject my insulin in the stomach because is it quick and easy, especially at work. Now the lower part of my stomach has lots of scare tissue.

There is also a safety hole at the back of the sensor in case it does not realise, I've never tried it my self but I'm aware of it case we get stuck. I'm now after using the Dexcom G6 since its first release in the UK getting free on the NHS I think goods news to us all! :-) Like you say the accuracy is brilliant I had two sensors on me and they both were spot on to my blood readings Yes I very much love my Dexcom G6 very much a lifesaver! Things I don't like with it are all the waste from it and waste on all the returns, also having to keep recharging it every 3 days for the receiver and the noise of the alarms! :-)

Thanks for the video. I didn't even know they had "pump peels." I have been using the G6 for a while now, and I have noticed a big difference it how well they stick by how thoroughly I cleaned the stick site. I also had a chance to go to Hawaii for three months and as an avid surfer was all ready to start losing these things (G5 at the time.) left and right in the ocean. And to my surprise, they were actually harder to peel off and I didn't lose one! I guess the salt water or something caused them to really stick. (that probably doesn't make sense but..) Anyway thanks for the video. I too am looking to finally get on a pump. So I appreciated the insight into that. Think I'm going to go with the tandem2.

Hi Micah! Thank you so much for watching and for your comments! How interesting about the potential saltwater/adhesive combo! I'm intrigued! Nevertheless I'm glad to know you didn't lose any sensors - thanks goodness! The pump peelz are great (and a bit of fun if you like to express yourself in sticker form hehe), but also, Dexcom has started offering their own adhesive patches, free of charge, I believe. If you just call them up and request them they will send them directly to you - another great option to keep things in place! I hope all goes well with your search for the ideal pump - It's all very personal but I think the Tandem2 is an excellent choice - my Dad has it and he loves it!! Wishing you all the best!

I've been DM1 for almost 40 years. CGMs weren't around back then and, although I'm relatively free of complications, I'm very insensitive to hypos and have twice broken my tibia/fibula in the last two years as a result. This, and your very inspiring video review, prompted me to get the G6, which I have been wearing for only five days. In that short amount of time, however, it's been a complete game-changer and has already saved me from a nighttime hypo. It has also allowed me to fine-tune and reduce my insulin dosing thanks to the realtime feed of BG data. This almost certainly will have spin-off advantages such as avoiding insulin resistance and better control of body weight too, since constant levels of circulating insulin inhibit breakdown of fat. I haven't convinced myself to get a pump just yet - a tibial pin, G6 sensor and, currently, a moon boot are enough bionic components in my opinion for now! 😉

Linda Haering Yes, unfortunately had a diabetic seizure on two seperate occasions with convulsions and fell from standing and broke tibia and fibula on both occasions in different locations. Such fun, but the silver lining was that my neuropathy meant I really didn't feel any pain whatsoever. That was reason enough to go on a CGM and I've never looked back!

My 'CGM' comprises a Libre + MiaoMiao bluetooth transmitter + Android phone (with xDrip+ app) + Pebble watch. The only ongoing cost is the Libre sensors - here ins Aus, they're $92.50 ($67.40USD or 51.40GBP). The MiaoMoa sensor is rechargeable (anecdotally, only need to charge it 1 once a month.), sits over top of the Libre and is barely noticeable. It send the Libre reading to the xDrip app on my phone every 5 minutes (no tapping!!!). And that in-turn is sent to my Pebble Time watch (which has a watch-face for xDrip). The Pebble is one of the only e-ink watched around, so you only have to change that once a week (compare that to any other smart watch!). Once you setup it's all very simple and is by far the cheaper option around for a GGM. of course, there's no 'artificial pancreas' options, but it does still have high and low alarms. Even when the Libre 2 comes out, this setup will still be better. Give it a go - be interested to see you take on it.

Hi Drew! Thanks for your comment - and excellent breakdown of your setup and the cost to run it! I've actually switched over to the Dexcom system and am loving it so much, for the very reason that I don't have to tap or any of that jazz. I'm pretty technically minded but when it comes to the external apps for diabetes control/CGM stuff I get into a muddle pretty quickly - that's why I've been so drawn to and stuck with the Dexcom system, because I find it so straightforward and easy to use. I also have an Apple watch that I've set up to show my Dexcom readings on (like you and your Pebble) and that's very nifty indeed! Just to look down at my risk and know my blood sugar...dream come true! I'd be interested to see how your system works - will research it on here now! Thanks again for your comment and providing this info to me and to the community! Really helpful and excellent! :)

I am wearing the first Dexcom sensor in my intro kit. Like you I switched from the Libre system. The thing I’m missing is all the data the libre gave me especially the percentage of time I’m in target. I also liked the A1C reading and other data the libre kept for me to get a sense for where I’m at. Currently I’m not using MDI for insulin.

We have just done a month trial self funding of the G6, my daughter loves it and was great when I was out of the country and could still keep an eye on her, she is also unaware of hypo's at night and the alarms have been great, she also doesn't always feel her low's in the day either, as her BG's tend to sit on 4's to 5's, I would definetly recommend the G6, we have tried the Libre and was not very accurate and feel off after three or four days of both a try's.

I can only imagine the peace of mind it gives you, knowing you can keep an eye on the sugars from afar and she will be alarmed when low, especially because of her lack of awareness. I have seen doctor's who have said the Dexcom's accuracy for low blood glucose is better than the FreeSyle Libre and I use the G6 because I don't feel low till I'm well below 3! I can set a LOW alarm for 5 mmol / L and I have time to correct before I go dangerously low. I found the LOW setting of 4 or 4.5 mmol/L ( 72 or 81 mg/dL)to be too little warning. 1 mg / dL = 0.0555 mmol / L

I don't know if you saw this or not, but recently a study was done showing something many of us already knew: Dexcom CGM is just as accurate in the arm as in the "officially" recommended sites. I don't think the approved site locations have been updated yet, but since I've been having better luck with using my abdomen for my pump lately, I like having other options for the other half of my bionic pancreatic attachments.

I switched from the G4 to the G6 and there are worlds between them! On the G4 I had frequent inaccuracys within a day, it showed a value that differed from the value measured in the blood from sometimes more than 60mg/dl. So the G4 was dangerous and was not very trustworty. Now it is completely different. The G4 was always good to see tendencies, now with the G6 you can rely on the device and numbers! Hi Linda! Great question! I'm so sorry to hear about the troubles you've had with your G6! That's no fun! So I use mine with the Medtronic 640g. Those two devices cannot communicate with each other and therefore I've never hooked my G6 up to a pump of any sort, I just get my readings on my phone and then do the adjustments within my pump myself. I've had a few "bleeders" and 2 sensor failures, but other than that I've not had any issues with my G6 - especially not on the accuracy front. I would really encourage you to get in touch with Dexcom's customer support (which is awesome) to discuss your issues and see what can be done, as this should not be the norm, and I'm sure is extremely frustrating for you! I really hope this helps!

This may be a tough question to answer due to many factors including cost differentials, sensor lifespan, etc., but: now that you've reviewed both the Abbot Freestyle Libre and Dexcom G6, which of the 2 is a better overall choice? Hope you've had enough time to form an opinion, and being that you've invested a substantial amount of time into each product I hope you could do so without too much trouble. Great vids by the way, and keep up the great work.

Hi Neil! Thank you so much for your comment, and GREAT question! I'm going to work on a video that talks about this exact issue, but it may take a few weeks to produce, so I'll give you a run down here. Hands down, the one I would recommend is the G6 out of the two. The consistent accuracy and alarms are truly a game changer. Being that the G6 is a proper CGM and the Libre is only a Flash Glucose Monitor, I think the value of consistent, accurate and constant readings are unparalleled with the G6. If I had to recommend one - it would be the G6 - hands down.

Neil your comment means so much to me - thank you so much for all your encouragement and kindness - I am truly overwhelmed! :) I totally hear you on the cost of self funding and waiting for insurance companies to cover. I think these companies need to actually be educated on the long term benefits of CGM (lots of them don't even know what CGM is!!) and also need to be reminded that the cost of test strips when compared to CGM can also be quite similar. Hopefully it won't take long for this education to happen and take effect because, like you say - they are revolutionary devices! I look forward to creating more content, as always, but especially when I receive such kindness and encouragement from subscribers like you! Thank you so much! Libre has no built-in bluetooth, so you either buy one or have no alarms without you checking first. Having used both, both are nice. The libre has better sealant/tape/adhesive, bit that isn't a major issue for me. Both should be covered by insurance in the USA (not sure where you are from). The reason I went with the G6 is that i don't feel "low" until I hit mid 40s, so I want alarms. The g6 just makes that easier. For the same reason, I'm switching to the IQ pump. However.... This is a very personal selection with subjective opinions. I'd try to test them out first to see which one works best for you. Maybe your physician or the sales rep can hook you up. Best of luck.

Thank you Ralf! Is OpenAPS the same thing as closed loop? As in you connect the cgm to your pump and kind of 'hack' the system to automatically deliver insulin on your behalf? I just started with the Dexcom G6 and I love that it alarms and tells you when you start to go low. I had a Tegaderm clear waterproof adhesive patch around so I tried one. It was AMAZING. I went swimming with my daughter several times for well over 8 hour continuously submerged and it didn't peel one bit. I like the clear plastic as it is less noticeable. I personally think the patterned patches DRAW THE EYES toward the Dexcom which is not what I want. I don't mind if people see it, but I don't want to advertise it. Pattered patches are great for children and people who love to express themselves. You can search "Tegaderm clear adhesive" to find something that will suit just about anything, however I ordered the Tegaderm Transparent Film Roll-Ref#16004. It is 4 in / 10 cm wide by about 11 yd / 10 m long and can be cut to any length you want and it is very inexpensive. You can also get premade clear patches for the Dexcom G6. Search "dexcom g6 adhesive patch". Here's a link for the clear patches: www.amazon.ca/Lexcam-Adhesive-Dexcom-Patches-PreCut/dp/B07FRYY9XP I have NOT tried them, but if they are anything like the Tegaderm, they should work great. Oh - I totally know what you mean, and I've heard a lot of people report this issue. Sometimes the wealth of knowledge is too much and can cause fear bolusing or eating. I will definitely work on a video on this very topic!!! Thank you so much for your suggesting this!

Hey Andrea, really enjoyed watching your video on the dexcom. Thanks for the useful info :) I'm currently using the free style libra and I am thinking of switching to the dexcom for many of the reasons you outlined in the video. I saw in the video that you had your blood glucose levels not only on your phone but also on your watch. Are you able to tell me what type of watch you are wearing? how does that work? Does the watch only work with your dexcom or did it also work with your freestyle libre? I'm really interested in getting a fitness watch but would prefer one where I can see my levels!

Hi Ayla! Yes - I did the same switch from Libre to Dexcom and have never looked back. Honestly it's helped my control so so much. The watch I'm using is an Apple watch and the Dexcom app on your iPhone can communication and 'push' the results to your watch. Any version of the Apple watch is capable of doing this, so long as you have an iPhone that's compatible with the Dexcom G6 system. I can't speak for any other devices as I'm an Apple girl through and through, but I hope this helps!!

Nice video - As for accuracy and not testing this has not been the case - Let me first start by saying I have been a T1D for 47 years - I have been on the Dexom for approx 4 years give or take - Now on the G6 - and yes. 90% of the time its been close but there are times its way off by 100 or more. Also in my experience If you go low it's sometimes has a hard time to recover without calibrating - With that said I would NEVER go without having it on me - I have been able to maintain a 7-7.3 A1C - it is literally a lifesaver but not taking finger readings from time-to-time is playing with fire IMO.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience here Scott! I totally agree with you - though I haven't had those fluctuations in my Dexcom numbers, but completely agree - don't know what I'd do without it!! Stay safe and thanks again! :)

I do have kidney problems related to the diabeties. So the Doctor wants me to calibrate 2 times a day. The way it was explained to me, the creatine in your blood can effect the devcom G6. Other then that, I really love it

Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m so sorry to say but I’m not sure if the Pump Peelz adhesive patches are latex free, and they don’t discuss this on their website... :( May be worth reaching out to the company to enquire! Sorry to not be of more help on this!

I've seen other videos of the g6 with people putting them on the back of the arm, but dexcom seems to say stomach only. Any experience on this? I have severe needle phobia and bad experiences with bydurean has not helped, but i think i could take the back of the arm.

Hey I’ve just purchased my starter pack of dexcom G6 I’ve used free style libre before and I loved it. Before I will start using g6 I would like to know if I can shower with same way like freestyle libre Regards Tom

Hi Tom! Thank you so much for your comment! Congrats on your G6 starter pack purchase! It sounds like you’re on the same trajectory I was. I switched from the Libre to the G6 and I’ve never looked back! I wonder how you’re enjoying it? I hope so! With regards to showering, yes, exactly the same. You just shower as normal, no need to cover it or anything like that. Hope this helps and that you’re loving your new G6! :-)

I just ordered my Dexcom G6 today, it will be arriving next week and I cannot wait! I just had one question after things I have read and heard regarding the G6. Have you experiences a decrease in your A1C % since using the G6 as a monitoring system?
@ShesDiabetic
@ShesDiabetic 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jake! Oh I’m so excited for you to get your G6! My a1c has indeed lowered since starting the G6, but more so than that I’ve had fewer swings from highs to lows because I can anticipate and see them coming and act before they go into an extreme in one direction or another, that’s my most favorite aspect of having the continual feed of information. I hope you enjoy yours (I’m pretty darn sure you will!!)

Hi There . Great video. My son is 6 years old and has difficulty recognising a hypo which is scary when he is out playing. What i would like to ask is would he have to have an I phone with him all of the time whilst at school or out playing or would it work on an apple watch? He was only diagnosed on 17.05.20. Thank you so much for the video. Your attitude has cheered me up.

Great video! I'm considering changing from the Medtronic guardian to a dexcom because it's just inaccurate, I don't hear the alarms and it's scarring and painful to put in. I'm on a 640g and hypounaware so I still have yet to see if my endo will let me switch to a cgm without the suspend before low but I really hope so! The dexcom just seems so much more reliable and less fingersticks will be very very nice!

Hello Hello! I totally hear your! I was on the Medtronic Guardian for a whole 3 sensors and then I just completely gave up because it was so inaccurate and when connected to my pump it was suspending basals when it shouldn't, etc - it was such a nightmare for me!! Of course, being hypo unaware is another complication to deal with - I'm so sorry about this complication in your life! I can only say that I personally adore the Dexcom, especially because it is so accurate - particularly on the low end of the blood sugar spectrum, and the alarms are so customisable. And yeah - no finger-sticks - yes please! I really hope you find something that works well for you!!

So, would you recommend I go ahead and apply an adhesive peel the same day I apply the sensor (instead of just waiting for it to work it 's way loose)?
@ShesDiabetic
@ShesDiabetic 2 жыл бұрын
I tend to apply mine a few days in, so it hasn't gotten loose yet, but rather as a preemptive measure. So say, if yours tends to come loose on day 6 maybe you want to apply it a few days before so you can get the full use of the initial adhesive and then the over patch adhesive if that makes sense, just my MO though!

I dont use any dexcom. However I have been using a pod delivery of insulin for almost a year. And those pods work best for me, on my belly. So if I decide to get the g6 from the pharmacy my doctor sent the prescription to, I need more info. If I have to do any finger sticks as well as having g6 on me, along with my omnipod, I am going to run out of omnipod locations- I have to change the pod every 3 days. The g6 sensor and transmitter being 2 different pieces seem to make it difficult to accept. Especially when one lasts 10 days and another lasts 90 days.

I've been trying to Dexcom 6 for a month it's kind of weird and then like when I prick the thing on my stomach it gives me a slight pinch in a small bruise afterwards do you have any tips on that please
@ShesDiabetic
@ShesDiabetic 4 жыл бұрын
Oh I'm sorry to hear that - that doesn't sound nice or comfortable at all. It may just be where that individual sensor is, and would change if you put it in another location (even just 2cm to the right or left/up/down). If the problem persists I would definitely encourage you to call Dexcom's customer support (They're amazing) and speak to them about your concerns and see if they have any tips! I hope this helps! :)
