Great review. As a father of a 6 years old T1D kid, I can affirm that accuracy and continuous monitoring (even from remote!) are the two key features parents need for managing their children disease and feeling quite relaxed about it. We are using FSL since our NHS provides this device. I also decided to purchase vers 2 (the one with alarms) beacause we parents couldn't sleep at night having to check our son's BG every 1 or 2 hours. Now that school starts again after summer vacation, we felt the urgence to transform our FSL2 into a CGM via a transmitter (miao miao). So my opinion is that parents of young kids should have the right to access and use a real CGM system. I think FSL is great, but more indicated for adults than for kids.

Thank you for sharing this! :) I think you raise such an excellent EXCELLENT point. I think ESPECIALLY for children this is extremely important! Praying the NHS figures this out and finds a way to fund CGM for children first and foremost, and then eventually everyone - hopefully!!

Honestly being able to use a CGM system in a school is amazing. The 5 year old boy I look after with T1D has a dexcom G6 and it is amazing just being able to look at his receiver and see his levels - occasional finger pricks are obviously needed which I do, but the dexcom makes managing it super easy for us. My dad who is type 1 used the libre which is good but I wish it had constant readings - luckily like you say it has the alarms but I wish it had constant updates to the receiver like dexcom does instead of scans.

You’re not alone. I was diagnosed and started insulin shots at 20. It was a huge life changing experience but I always try to tell myself how it could’ve been a worse diagnosis. It’s still difficult though. If you can get a CGM it will give you some great stress relief and peace of mind. It has shown me how to really fine tune my insulin dosing and ratios. Hang in there and be safe!

Pump integration is really the next step authorities and pump manufacturers should work on: especially by publishing the API's (computer interfaces) so that any pump can be controlled by any external software receiving data from any CGM, without having to send your data onto the cloud to the manufacturers. Once this is in place, the open source community will be able to improve on the diabetes algorithms by including other sensors such as activity monitors and other data useful to keep your glucose levels stable. Cost for diabetics and health insurance would also go down.

Excellent detailed and very informative real life discussion of these two different systems. Much appreciated as my doctor recently gave me a FreeStyle Libre 2 and asked me to use it for awhile and let her know what I thought about its usefulness. I do have some reservations, however, concerning some of the points you made. One of the most common misconceptions I see regarding the accuracy of CGM devices is the assumption that finger stick bG meter tests are themselves dependably accurate and thus that they can be reliably used to gauge CGM accuracy. As the kids would say today, Not! Several years ago three meter manufacturers each gave me coupons for two free meters and 500 test strips so that I could run a comparison accuracy test. The coupons allowed me to obtain the meters from a local pharmacy thereby ensuring that the companies did not supply me with "special" meters. Long story short although the comparison test was scheduled to run for 50 days I terminated it in 3 days. Why? Because the results were so all over the place as to make further testing a total waste of time. When running a test (using the same drop of blood) with meter #1 it would report a bG of 85, meter #2 would say it was 130 and meter #3 would say it was 65. How could this possibly be? Well if you look up FDA Regulations RE bG meter accuracy you will see that 95% of readings must be within +/- 15% accuracy and 99% of readings must be within 20% accuracy. Since it is impossible for us to know whether a particular reading is 20% high or 20% low this effectively results in a potential error factor of 40%! In fact according to a large study conducted by a group of hospitals in the Midwest actual bG readings can often be as much as 35% off! To add insult to injury I should also point out that the +/- 20% accuracy standard meters must meet only applies when the meters are initially sent to the FDA for testing. There is no follow up, no random sampling of meters on an even occasional basis. I will close by mentioning that I have been a Type 1 diabetic for 47 years. I first began monitoring my blood glucose in 1981 with a meter purchased from England as American meters were at that time hopelessly complicated to use and woefully inaccurate. Since then I have owned and used a dozen or more bG meters manufactured by five different companies and have performed in excess of 150,000 bG tests. During that time I have seen so many meter errors (following repeat testing of questionable results, or actual comparison with hospital lab tests) that I have no difficulty saying that substantial meter errors are frighteningly common. Does this mean we should stop monitoring our blood glucose? Certainly not! But it does mean that we should view every test result with a degree of skepticism whether obtained from a CGM device or from a finger stick bG meter. Every comment you made regarding the pitfalls of basing management decisions upon faulty CGM readings applies equally to readings obtained via finger stick bG meter readings. I have never been able to ascertain whether this dismal lack of accuracy is the result of technical limitations, or whether the manufacturers are not willing to pay the increased costs of producing meters capable of more accurate results? That said, imagine giving a carpenter a ruler and telling him that it would sometimes be accurate and sometimes be quite a bit off? It's just a guess on my part but it may well be that your DexCom readings "appear" to be more accurate simply because you can coordinate it with your meter via calibration thus coordinating the results. This "apparent" accuracy could only really be confirmed with any degree of certainty via comparison with actual lab run bG results. One last point, I believe that the FreeStyle Libre 2 does now offer alarms for low bG throughout the day and night without having to perform a scan, although a scan is required for an actual numerical result.

This was an amazing video. You hit all the important points that I wanted to hear as someone who will be giving Dexcom a shot soon after 3 years as a Libre only user, fan, KZbin creator. One thing that bothers me a bit is the critique of Libre from users for inaccuracy. Accuracy should be always researched using a statistically significant sample of patients and not on one of anecdotal stories of individual users (especially in the era of internet trolls:)). I believe statistically Libre (and espcially individually calibrated Libre 2) is not loosing with Dexcom as much as it might appear from this video. But you are sharing your experience and that is perfectly fine. Really good job on the video. It pushed me in the direction of testing the G6 even earlier than I might have planned before. Thank you Andrea!

Interesting review, here are my thoughts. Both I (Type 2 for 10 years) and my son (Type 1 for 16 years) have used the Libre for some 5 or 6 years and our failure rates have been significantly lower. In fact pretty rare, I guess about 1:20. I swim and go to regular Aqua classes (pre-lockdown) and stick Hyperfix (cut a small hole so you don't cover the centre ) on the sensor to ensure it stays in place even though Abbott have improved the sensor's adhesiveness and so it now rarely dislodges. I wear 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off and find using the monitor ensures I behave and helps me to respond quickly to any rise in sugar levels. Thus if my sugar levels begin rising, for instance after a heavy carb meal, I start exercising with my 12 kilo kettlebell or go for a walk and that will reverse the rise in minutes. So I can maintain my glucose levels and consequently my HbA1c without any medication, intermittent fasting, HIIT and being careful with sugar. Having a monitor is absolutely essential for all Type 1's and a useful tool for Type 2's and of course the Libre 2 now has alarms.

I have to chime in with an opposing view here because my experience with the Libre has been positive. Of course I have no comparative experience with both sensors and Ive bee on the Libre since diagnosis for only about 6 months but I have no skin rash problem, every single sensor has lasted 14 days and it has been accurate enough to be a workable system. I always check during highs and lows with a finger stick to get the correct BG number and treat accordingly. During extreme highs and lows there is a discrepancy in the readings but its certainly good enough to tell me whether I’m high or low if not the exact value at that moment. The biggest drawback I see with the Libre is the lack of alarms and its incompatibility with the Tandem, if I ever decide to go on a pump. The Libre2 solves the alarm problem and I also understand that Tandem and Abbott are in talks to make them compatible.

Well Done! Excellent review! I am a type 2 diabetic and have been for 33 years and on a Medtronic insulin pump for the past 12 years. I have been on the Libre system for the past two and a half years and now wear the Libre 14 day system. It has been a godsend for me by comparison to finger sticks! I have tried the Medtronic CGM-Enlite System and found the inserter to be painful; the transmitter to be problematic; and the process for insertion to be somewhat laborious. The Medtronic alarm system for their CGM was not easily set to avoid alarms that really had little significance for me, and I finally turned all of them OFF! I began looking at the possibility of finding a 14 day CGM system with a sensor design like the Libre system, because of the ease of insertion and the length of time between sensor changes. So, I have been looking at the Dexcom system. The sensor insertion process seems a tad easier than Medtronic's sensor. Your review of the Libre system is spot on regarding the sensor quality variation. In my personal experience, the 10 day system had a failure rate of 1 in 3! So, in my case, I have found that the 14 day system has better failure rate maybe of around 1 in 7; however, like the old 10 day sensor, all it takes is to inadvertently bump the sensor and you are on the phone to customer service. That being said, I had great success with my A1C using the Libre system. While using finger sticks, I averaged A1C of 7.0 to 7.2. Using the Libre system, I averaged A1C of 6.7. However, I must acknowledge that blood sensing is more accurate than interstitial fluid beneath the skin. How much accuracy is required, though, for lower A1C results in my opinion is a function of the amount of time and effort that the individual must feel comfortable with. The 14 day Libre system was acceptable for me, because I used my phone for less than 10 seconds to check trends as often as I wished, which my average was around 8 times in a 24 hour period. I also loved the Libre App. Only one app to fuss with! So, while I have never used a Dexcom system, I am still considering it, but I might be better off waiting for the next step in design and technology improvement. The Medtronic 780 seems to have the advantage at the moment with their software that makes automatic adjustments when BGs are trending up or down. The Medtronic inserter is still problematic, though. I am hoping that Dexcom will design a new 14 day sensor inserting system like the Libre, though. I also hope that my insurance will be kind to me if I switch to Dexcom. But if not, I can do quite well with Libre and the phone app! Thank you for your excellent review!

Very informative. I have just had the exact same problems with libre 1in terms of accuracy during a period of illness. Readings were saying my sugars were normal but after a blood stick sample they were way off the scale . I was in DKA. So this has knocked my confidence in the accuracy of the libre system. So I'm having to double check quite often by taking a blood sample to check if libre is correct. More work hassle and stress. I am the father to TWO type1 diabetics (11&14 diagnosed @ 2&4 years old)and at one point about 2years ago they were on The Dexcom G5. It was very good , accurate and had alarms unfortunately they both complained of the insertion and at times pain in the area where it was inserted. They mostly used the back of the arm because the other areas were for their pumps. We have a good system in place to manage their diabetes and because they usually hover around high 6 n low 7 we gave in and got off the Dexcom. Last year while in Europe a family member showed us the Libre and told us he was happy and his A1c were also very good. My daughter (the one that always tries new things first) asked us to look into Libre because it looked a bit smaller and that family member said it was painless. We spoke w our Dr. and although she recommends the Dexcom, she told us whatever we decided would be good. We have been flying “blind” these past two years anyhow. Today the Libre arrived hope it delivers what we looking for: 1) less painful 2) less finger sticks w/ acceptable accuracy

I've had the Freestyle Libre for two years. I noticed my A1C went up using the Libre from mid 6's to mid 7's. This morning checked blood sugar (libre) showed 99 actually it was 60 points higher by finger stick. Time to try the Dexcom hopefully more accurate.

I have had exactly the same experience with Freestyle Libre over the last 2.5 years. My A1C has gone up from high 6’s from before Libre to persistent high 7’s. Libre will show 30- and 90- day averages of around 130, but A1C will indicate 180. It is not just the delay between the interstitial glucose and blood glucose levels. If that were the case, the longer term averages would not have such a large difference. It seems to me that there is a fundamental accuracy issue with the device, at least with some people. I will be switching to Dexcom G6 next week, and hopefully will get better results with it.

HELL YES Andrea, totally agree about the Libre. When it works, it's great. But that's the exception for me. Either it's REALLY inaccurate after day 2 or so, or it craps out part-way through, usually at a very inconvenient (or dangerous) time. I don't know whether it's something to do with physiology but I know I'm not alone as my DN has similar stories. Yes they get replaced without question, but it's a right pain. I'm very very close to giving up and going to the Dexcom One, which is the only other one I can get on the NHS.

Thank you very much Andrea for this video. It is very informative as all of your videos and all the comments I've read. And condolences on your Dad. While I watched the video I was at first bothered I did not hear you make an upfront disclosure/disclaimer about your being a Dexcom Warrior, but I was very pleased to see your appropriate disclaimer printed below it. And thanks for your response to a comment that your observations on accuracy are your own and anecdotal. I had been on the Freesyle Libre for a year and switched to the Dexcom g6 in March. My endocrinologist considers the Freestyle Libre a "toy" compared to the Dexcom g6. My main problem with my Dexcom g6 has been the often annoying alarms, but you are right: they can be adjusted and tailored. My life is better now that I made those adjustments. And of course the alarm will go into action when it senses an impending low while I am sleeping (and other times). This is SO IMPORTANT as you pointed out. Although I still wake up by myself when low or almost low, it is comforting to know the Dexcom will "do its thing" to wake me up just in case my own body might not not sense a low while sleeping. I have found the Freestyle Libre's information and graphs on the reader very helpful, convenient and more understandable than what Dexcom Clarity shows. Clarity's information and charts are rather confusing to me, but as you said, our doctors understand them. I just wish the g6 reader contained more information. (Unfortunately, my iphone 6 has not been working well with the g6, most of the time losing signal.) Again, another very helpful, informative and welcomed video from you. Thanks again. And please keep up the wonderful videos you make for people with diabetes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My nurse practitioner suggested the Dexcom G6 particularly as you indicated - better accuracy. The reason the G6 is more accurate than the Libre1 is that they are individually calibrated at the factory, whereas the Libre1 is batch calibrated. This apparently changed with the Libre2 but I've never tried that.

First of all thx for the video, your experience with each of the 2 systems is very interesting :D I wanted to give some usefull information about the Freestyle Libre: you can buy a device ("MiaoMiao" or "Bubble") that you attach on your freestyle libre, which will continuously scan and send (to your phone) your glucose levels, basically making it a Continuous Glucose Monitor. You can then use "third party" applications on your phone to read these data (Xdrip+, go on Reddit for informations), with the possibility to calibrate your curves on those applications (based on finger blood sugar) AND you can set up alarms if you're going low or high. Considering that the Freestyle Libre is less expensive, and if you add the price of a MiaoMiao/Bubble (about 200€ once), it can be interesting if you're short on money. To sum up, Freestyle libre + MiaoMiao/Bubble gives you access to: 1) Continuous Glucose Monitor, 2) calibrations, 3) alarms, and 4) can be less expensive that Dexcom G6. BUT Dexcom G6 has better accuracy and you can "link" it to your insulin pump (which Freestyle Libre can't).

I would agree with most of your points about both systems as they come out of the box except for the Libre not lasting the full 14 days. I didn't have an issue with that unless I knocked it off on the edge of something. However you can make the Libre as accurate as the Dexcom G6 and get alarms with an add on device like the MiaoMiao combined with the XDrip app. I used this set up for several months here in the U.S. and was thoroughly satisfied with it but then Abbot changed the sensors manufactured for the U.S. market so you couldn't use it with the add-ons and they lost me as customer as a result. The add-on device makers have found a way around that recently but I've been on the Dexcom G6 for 1 1/2 years and I don't plan to go back to the Libre.

An excellent review of these two products and fully agree with respect to the inaccuracy of the freestyle libre sensor via the app. Troubleshooting with the libre sensor BG readings against both freestyle libre reader and an older accu-chek reader (these concurred with prick/strip tests) there were large variances. Unfortunately the customer care experience did not resolve the accuracy issue and after using the last 2 sensors with problems I have reverted to the tried/tested "old school" method of strips. After this review though I will give the Dexcom G6 a tryout. Thank you!

I am comparing Freestyle Libre and Dexcom 6 with finger prick glucose. They both compare well but I have found that the Freestyle appears to be more accurate. The Freestyle also appears to measure low before the Dexcom 6, which catches up, but can take a few minutes. I do get the impression that at higher levels the Dexcom 6 may better reflect blood glucose level. The alarm of the Dexcom 6 is good, I will be comparing the Freestyle 2 in three days. I get a bit fed up with the Dexcom 6 and its reading errors. I have had to replace two Dexcom6 sensors before 10 days. After 18months with the Freestyle Libre I have had one sensor that didn't last fourteen days. I will make my mind up after trying the Freestyle Libre 2. They are both good.

@@ShesDiabetic When I first had the Freestyle Libre I compared it with my capillary blood glucose results, which is the sort of thing I've done all my working life. The diabetes nurses didn't like it, but just because I had retired I didn't see why I shouldn't. I discussed it with them. So when I put the first Freestyle libre 2 on soon I will have another lot of data to inspect as well as the second alarm. I will give a previous example, at one point the Freestyle result was 4.3mmol/L, the Dexcom 6 told me 7.3mmol/L; different responses needed. The Dexcom 6 took about five minutes to get down to the mid 4s, by which time I had had glucose because I knew I needed it. Also I think that both types of sensor can vary between sensors, not a lot, but in the same way that physiological measurements do vary. I've had 46 years living with Type 1, it would have been a lot easier if we had had what we've got now then. Thank you

Nice informative video from a very attractive presenter. 👍🏼The only comment I would make is that the Freestyle Libre 2 is now available on prescription in the UK and addresses some of the original Freestyle shortfalls. It now has the alarms which have been missing for so long and improved accuracy. It is still a flash glucose monitor however hot on its heels is the Freestyle Libre 3 which is indeed a CGM and does link with certain insulin pumps. The cost is said to remain the same so it still represents very good value. Keep making great videos. 👍🏼

But the Freestyle Libre 2 is and is totally free to us and I receive two sensors every 28 days without cost. The sensors I have up to now that I fix on my upper arm have never failed me. Great Video. Couple thing's I'd like to mention from my (brief) experience using the Dexcom G6 having come from the Libre. First thing I will say is despite what many people have experienced, the Dexcom G6 was never more accurate for me than the Libre. I don't know why but after several comparisons with finger pricks I found the G6 to be on average 2 mmol/L higher than my actually finger prick test when my glucose was trending sideways (not go up or down) and that was on a few different sites as well. The Libre tends to be 1 mmol/L higher on average. My Second issue is that in just over 3 months with the G6 I've had 2 sensor failures and 1 Transmitter failure. With the Libre which I used for 1 year I had 1 sensor failure. The third issue I had was that the app is useless without an iPhone. The android version is only compatible with a VERY short static list of older android devices so if you're not rocking an iPhone be prepared to fork up $500 (Canadian) for the reader which is absolutely ridiculous compared to the $120 Libre reader. The last thing I'd like to mention which probably only applies to Canadians at this point is the customer service/ technical support for the G6 is almost non existent. I've had to switch back to my Libre 2 weeks ago because my Transmitter battery failed prematurely and it's almost impossible to get in contact with Dexcom Canada for them to send me a replacement. Phone calls never get through and emails go unanswered. Don't want to discourage people from going the G6 route, if you have trouble with hypos during sleep then I would absolutely say go for it. BUT if you're like me who has decent control and just wants to up they're management game then save some money and stick with the Libre or get the Libre 2 if it's available to you.

One thing I have to get off my chest is the accuracy of the fingerstick meters. The several meters I have had recommend using a control solution to see that the new supply of strips and the meter are accurate. Sounds good but the calibration is considered good with the control solution if it is between like 78 and 120! That's not in the ballpark or even in the parking lot! So to say the CGM was off by 2 or 15 points when it may be dead on when the meter is off. Now that I have calmed down. Testing is more accurate as Vincent stated with a stable reading from your CGM. Seems I've heard the subcutaneous (?) reading is like 15 minutes behind the blood test. IMHO

I love my G6. I was on the G5 before that and both have been great. If my sugars are moving rapidly in any direction, I always bolus with the assumption that there is a lag in information between the level I’m being told and what my actual blood glucose is. This doesn’t happen very often since I’m well controlled since having a CGM. I also still use finger sticks occasionally to check calibration. I generally find that levels are read as a little higher when a fresh sensor has been inserted. Apparently, this is due to stress hormones in the area when the sensor has been applied. It settles quite quickly but It’s good to be aware of it.

I'm a newly diagnosed T1D. My diabetes educator told me there IS a lag with the G6, because it reads the "interstitial fluids" I believe Andrea mentioned. A CGM will never be as accurate in real time as a fingerstick, as a fingerstick test, tests the blood. Also, home glucometers have an 80% accuracy rate (I believe Dexcom mentions this on their website), which is the industry standard. Stress can raise BG levels, but I don't know how much this affects a new sensor. I asked a Tandem rep if this was true, after applying a new sensor, and she said she's "heard about this." I just applied a new Dexcom sensor for the 3rd time. Thank you for you vid, Andrea.

Some thoughts (I'm using the Libre 2 because my insurance covers it, wish I could try the dexcom): -Keep in mind that both the libre and the dexcom measure the glucose in your tissue, not actual glucose in the blood (which was also said in the video)! It can take some time for the glucose to get into the tissue through your blood. So the difference of your actual blood glucose and the sensor readings is also depending on the change and rate of change of your blood glucose. The values (in theory) will only be (almost) the same when your bg is stable in that moment. The readings can always lag a bit behind the actual blood glucose when it's changing. You can take this into account by setting the alarm for low bg a bit higher. So if you want to get a warning at a bg of 60mg/dl, you could for instance set the value to 65 or 70mg/dl on the device/phone to make sure you get warned early enough. -From my experience with the Libre 2 the readings also tend to get more accurate after a day or two -My readings have been pretty accurate so far using the arms only. I read some comments of people claiming that they get more accurate readings with the sensors on their thighs or other spots (while Abbott of course strictly wants you to put it on your arms, pretty annoying spot...). Probably something everyone needs to figure out for themselves. -The Libre 2 also alarms you now unlike the Libre 1 (The Libre 3 seems to be on the way now too and seems to be an actual real time CGM, the sensor is tiny compared to the previous ones). But if you use a pump and the dexcom can communicate with it, it's a no brainer anyway. That's an amazing function!

Want to share my positive experience of freestyle libre. I’ve been on it for 4 months and only one has come off early because I accidentally caught it on something. I haven’t had any skin irritation and don’t need to add any skin adhesive beforehand. It is sometimes not the most accurate at the extreme high or low but I was told this is pretty normal? I’m also really self conscious about having my diabetes visible (I’m still on injections, not pump) and I like how the libre is smaller and slightly less medical looking than the dexcom. Also I’m lucky enough to be funded on the NHS for the libre and would have to be self funded for the dexcom. I had a horrible experience with FSL 1 and 2. So inaccurate for a 40 year T1D. Most days it will say 59 but I'm 82 or 85. That is too far off when I'm asleep or at work. Not sure if scar tissue plays a role.. I'm gonna give Dexcom a try. If all else fails, I will continue to stick my fingers.

My first try with G6, after 2 1/2 years on freestyle libre (FSL) raised a problem I had never had with FSL. Last night no reading appeared between 11pm and 7am, even though my reader (iPhone SE 2020) was on the bedside table throughout the night and never more than 4ft from the sensor. The FSL would not have missed those 8 hours. Is that a problem in your experience? I cannot communicate with Dexcom by email to ask them as I cannot find an email address and the online form has not been answered for 3 days and counting on another problem. David

Good point! I didn't go into the Apple Watch aspect due to the fact that I just don't use it that much (because I have a very old and buggy Apple Watch) and therefore I didn't feel like I could speak with much authority on the subject, but very good to know, and I thank you for adding this! :)

I recently switched to the G6 and it is very close in regards to accuracy to the traditional finger prick. When I was on the Libre it would sometimes be off by 1-3 mmol. There seemed to be a delay of about 15 minutes on the Libre. I think the Libre is certainly better than not checking your sugar at all but the G6 is on another level. The only downside of the G6 in my opinion is the duration of 10 days versus 14 days for the Libre.

The G6 also seems to have a 15-20 minute lag. I look after a child with T1D in my class and often his dexcom says 4 and I finger prick when he goes low, so I check it and it’s actually 3! The other dat his dexcom said 4 but when I finger pricked it was at 9!!

Only system I trust that has been super helpful DexcomG6 it has been life saver & super accurate for me and help me wake up during my severe hypos + I’m not sure in couple of weeks time if I be back on DexcomG6 get funded or self fund 🤓 I wish medical equipment would be cheaper for people who needs medical device and equipment it’s a life saving matter.

Assuming you're in the UK Zz; You can get Dexcom funded. I paid for Libre when that came out until I was funded for that. Then I self-funded Dexcom and was able to show how my BG was so much improved with the Dexcom. I wrote a letter to my Endo setting out all the benefits and also pointed out that its only £50 extra a month. Good luck!

I tried the Libre for several months back in 2019, about a dozen sensors or so... I was expecting differences between it and blood glucose results because of the differences in technology. However, what I ended up with was virtually unusable except for very basic trending. The libre results ranged from 2 to 12 mmol/L *lower* than glucose results when compared to 3 separate BG monitors, and typically didn't match the way I was feeling at all. Like... Let's say I was really high after a badly planned meal. The Libre would generally put me in range. That's dangerous. Keep in mind that this is just my experience, and not reflective of anyone else's. My specialist recently convinced me to get into the Dexcom system... I'm a bit skeptical because it's also interstitial fluid glucose, and damn expensive, but I'm going to give it a shot since she's said repeatedly that her other patients who use it have had really good experiences...

I use freestyle libre for the last year and a half. In that time I have had one fall off(I’m in Florida and was out picking Liche fruit, sweaty and humid plus it was my first one and I did not exfoliate prior to placement) the next time it wouldn’t sync up. Then the last time the applicator got jammed. Customer service was great and the accuracy is great. But yes you do have to scan it when you want to know what is up. I am also type II and doing intermittent fasting that is helping me get my numbers down and need multiple readings .

I believe and experienced Dexcom is more expensive as comparatively to Libre sensor and still it would cost effective if I use it with another CGM device. I'm using Blucon with my libre sensor which gives reading every 5 minutes on phone and watch. I've been T1d for 27 years and have recently developed a serious problem with hypo glucose events. I don't feel low glucose down to the mid 30's. This happens mostly at night and without me wife getting up for bathroom trips and trying to wake me and calling the ambulance I'd be severely damaged. i have the diagnosis of mild dementia from 4 hypo events this year with trips to the local emergency rooms. I'm waiting for a G6 now. I chose the G6 for its ability to alarm other smart devices based on low and high warning settings. I need this to alarm other family members. Am I correct in this? Are the alarm settings changeable and will it alarm more than one smart device? Great and very professional videos. Thanks for your dedication. Joe

There are several levels of alarms to choose from. And it will keep repeating those low alarms. And I believe you can have up to 5 other devices through the smartphone app. And there any number of alarms to choose from in the smartphone app. An option to consider: When I'm driving I will set my low alarm higher so it alarms me sooner to a falling glucose. You could do this at night as well when you may be more likely to hear the alarm when your glucose is higher.
