I always used to want an Intel HEDT build back in the x79 and x99 days, so it's great fun to watch you work on and OC stuff from this era. Now you just need to do a video on an old x58 board with an i7 920 or 980x.

@@ChrisGR93_TxS I think it's just not a fun platform to OC memory on. You have twice as much so it takes longer to test and you usually can't OC it very far because the memory controller isn't great. I did some mem OC on my X99 ITX (which only has 2 dimm slots and they're riiiight next to the narrow ILM socket) and it wasn't very exciting. Eventually I threw some server ECC sticks in there since I wasn't OC'ing them anyway.

I love old hardware. Still got an Asus P6T Deluxe with a Xeon X5690 @4.3GHz~ that I bought in 2009 and originally came with an I7-920, but thank god for Aliexpress. It also has a kit of 24GB Corsair Dominators - set of 2 triple channel 4gb modules, so 6 sticks in total, idk what speed, though. I actually used it with an RTX 2080 until CPUs got good enough to justify and upgrade. Bang for the buck baby.

First time i learned what 00 bootloop was, my r5e automatically started updating bios at startup with no option to stop it or go back. I've read that you shouldn't stop the procedure during update to avoid corrupted bios. Motherboard started "updating", it was connected to the internet via ethernet but still didn't manage to update. Took 6 hours on black screen saying bios updating plz do not restart or turn down the system. After almost 12 hours i gave up and restarted. That chip was long gone with 00 post code and non stop bootlooping ,switched bios and worked obviously.. then just ordered 2 up to date chips. since today i still don't know how bios decided to update automatically even if there's no option to disable that in bios. I still have that chip tho

Hello, here in 2024. I always had my Sabertooth x79 + 4930k + 64ram + corsair gs700 psu (3d modeling programs, renders, games, etc.), running until this year without problems, then a temperature sensor started to fail (I don't remember which one), so at this point changing it would be difficult, I think? So I opted for a rampage iv black edition / ac4. Which I can't get to work! I have a permanent red cpu light, it's on, but it doesn't show anything; I changed components, took one out and put it back in, flashed the bios from the usb port, took out the battery, etc. and it's no use. I tried to take everything out of the case and run it on a non-conductive surface, changed video cables, etc. I think I've done everything and I get no response, I know the motherboard is good, since it's tested, as are all my components that come from the previous configuration. Can anyone give me some clues as to what this could be or if it has already happened? Thanks

G'day Buildzoid, Some people don't deserve nice things, like the previous owner who did this 🤬, it looks like he checked if the CPU was socketed properly with a SledgeHammer, I had a Similar bad experience with an Ebay Mobo Purchase, it was a GA-Z68XP-UD4, it booted to BIOS fine so I thought everything was good, but when I got time to play things started going Schitzo throwing up all sorts of Crash messages & now I scared to even power it up because it may kill my i7-3770K 😥, But I now have a ASUS ROG Maximus V Extreme which I got for $120AUD that is working fine with a quick 4.5 OC, so I am looking forward to some playtime soon 😁 Anyway that's it for the comment... Yay Me I love your videos Buildzoid, I get to learn something & your style always brightens my day 😁

I'd advise anybody looking at getting into older boards to just pick up a chip programmer, they aren't too expensive and you don't have to deal with those garbage dos based flasher programs or having to buy intermediary CPUs to flash a newer bios for a new CPU like for westmere. Also for people new to X79, the 2400Mhz ram divider is bugged out and doesn't work right.
@ActuallyHardcoreOverclocking3 жыл бұрын
2400 isn't bugged it just hard on the sandybridge-E IMC also most boards set VCCSA way too high which make running high mem clocks even harder.
@DEJ9153 жыл бұрын
Not sure I ever tried it on SB-E to be honest just on my IB-E chips.
@JJFX- Жыл бұрын
@@ActuallyHardcoreOverclocking If anyone happens to read this, it actually is 100% bugged but not in the way I assume BZ is thinking. At the 2400 strap, it works fine UNTIL the board shuts down or goes to sleep. Then the memory copy bandwidth will sink like a bag of bricks. I've yet to find a permanent fix. Anytime it loses power you have to change speeds and bclk then set it again without touching bclk. This isn't obvious in every test but run AIDA and you'll see what I mean. Not sure about SB-E but I have 5 Ivy-E chips, including 2 1680v2's and a golden 5820K and they all do it. The 125MHz strap is fine. The few old posts online about this indicate it likely affects all boards.

You bought through eBay? Hell, something arrives that damaged and so far from the description I would burn the seller to the ground with complaints (as long as I can prove it of course)! TL;DR - I'm a nightmare eBay customer... 1) Misleading descriptions are against eBay's Terms of Service 2) False descriptions are against UK law, even for private sellers. Sale of Goods Act 1979. 2.1) A registered business seller gets an ever harsher end of the stick. 3) Damage in shipping due to poor packaging is against eBay's Terms of Service. 3.1) A proven case of bad packaging means eBay will force the seller to buy return postage - if item damaged enough, a bad seller must comply with the refund but may not bother with the return. 4) Especially a business seller, there are grounds for a legal case of damage to personal property. Once the money is payed, the customer legally owns the bought item. Not a feasable action, but it can help kick lazy sellers up the arse. Edit: £80 isn't a trivial amount either. Depending on the market price of the item, there's a (probably weak) case for defrauding the customer too. Against eBay Terms of Service and UK law.
