Zack Dowdy you could also try building like a shed for a wood halfpipe or maybe even try to put a surface layer of mortar or something ? Just ideas

@jonglass61974 жыл бұрын
Man that backyard is perfect - do you have to get permission at all from the city to build a ramp?
@ZackDowdy4 жыл бұрын
Jon Glass I believe it’s all height based since it’s over going to be about 4 ft I don’t need a permit. Just going to barge it haha, I know pools and stuff do but that’s because there’s a lot more that can go wrong (I think)
@joe_ferreira Жыл бұрын
@@ZackDowdynormally you need a permit any time you are making a modification to the land. A notice of proposed land use action is required to get opinions on the modifications from neighbors. Neighbors can absolutely block you based on potential noise issues.

I love wood ramps but they eventually rot. I think concrete would suit your needs going by your video. I would recommend treating it with a concrete sealer. Keeps it smooth. It just needs a lick of it once a year. If you don't do that it can get really rough after a few years and you'll have to grind/polish it smooth again which is a pain in the ass project. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Good luck 🤙

Same, I really do enjoy wood ramps. Thanks for the advice! Didn't think about that at all, concrete sealer it is. Appreciate that.

Having the ability to sk8 at home is huge!!! Me and my crew have several spots, a skate park, and a DIY spot close, then my wife says, "You guys should just build a halfpipe in our back yard, and i'm like, Wow I love this woman!!!! Not planning on staying here forever so wood it will be, but hellz yeah!!!!! DO IT!!!!!

Although I am more of a wood fan, I think concrete in your case is better. I mostly like wood because I have not been skating that long and am not as accustomed to injuries. Basically if I take a slam on a concrete miniramp, I'm usually done for the day. But I think concrete feels nicer and is so much more satisfying which is why I think you should use concrete and why I still can't stay away from concrete ramps. 😁
@ZackDowdy4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree 100% with you! I might need a wood ramp eventually haha, but for now I'm pretty set of concrete.

Concrete all the way!! I made a small halfpipe with recycled wood when quarantine started. It was great but two weeks later I had to took it out beacause started to rain like 6 days a week. Maybe concrete is just a bit more of work but once its finished you don't need to worry about rain and humidity

Wow, that is the dream right! Maintenance is definitely better in the concrete. I don't think I will be in this house at retirement (3 to 6 years away) but, when I buy my next house I am going to build more of skate garden plaza in my back yard. A place that is skatable but doesn't really look like a skatepark.

Make it a pool designed for skateboarding but functional as a pool, so you don't have to tear it out when you move. You can sell it as a feature.

I know he already built the concrete mini ramp. But to others... Don't paint a wood ramp. Use a oil based stain or marine grade polyurethane. Paint does not protect wood.

Idk man Id say wood. It looks like your buddy was a cement mason to begin with. If he's down to help a lot that might be a different story. Anybody with some basic tools and patience (measure twice cut once) can build a great wood ramp, but concrete has got to be kind of an artform. However I am not a mason so maybe I fear what I don't know? I think given that it appears you live in a pretty dry climate, a well built wood ramp with skate lite would probably last a really long time, and be way easier to build and also demolish. Your buddys ramp is fuckin tits though
@ZackDowdy4 жыл бұрын
Joe Melody I appreciate that dude! I agree the weather here is typically good for a wood ramp, but I’m pretty set on concrete now 😬
@jackstraw55274 жыл бұрын
@@ZackDowdy You definitely need to film the process. That would be a fairly unique timelapse video I'm sure many many people would want to see. How do you plan on smoothing out the concrete? Everytime I work with concrete I find it hard to get it super smooth, and on top of that I feel like it would be tough to get it smooth down the transitions.
