Awesome work as always. Its so satifying to my ADD brain to take something that sounds inpossible and break it down in to small manaagable chunks. Are you done working at the old spot, or are you doing work on both? I feel like this spot has a lot of potential

I backed away from it in my early 40s. Can't quite say I've quit because I still have a set-up with every intention of riding it again, but I hit a point were I started losing tricks I had had locked down for decades, and that shit hit hard. It wasn't even hard slams, it was just stepping out of tricks because they "didn't feel right." What drew me to skateboarding more than anything was being able to progress, to learn something new and difficult and to do it better today than I did it yesterday. I have other outlets for that through photography and music, so I'm still getting that itch scratched, but there's a satisfaction in having personally battled for all your victories in skateboarding that is hard to find in other pursuits. That's what I miss most about it, and I think I still have to make my peace with that part of it being in the past for me before I can recommit to skateboarding. Glad you're on the mend, that slam looked brutal.

Some good advice… when you get that feeling “I’m getting tired, this isn’t going great. But I want to nail one more, few more mins and I’ll call it…”. THATS when you call it for the sesh, not in 10 min, not 2 or 3 more attempts. Right when you get the feeling. Many many a person have got hurt or even killed(depending on the activity) when they say “Just one more attempt”.

Try it in your 50’s (52). Got sober 15 years ago. Left my hometown 15 years ago (Santa Cruz ) because I was dying and my “friends” were enablers not supportive. So I moved to a tiny mtn town in North Carolina and haven’t looked back. It’s hard man. My best friend, my 17 year old catahoula died Dec 27th so it’s pretty much just me, my racing dh MTB and skating. Been pushing since 78.

I’m sure you’re probably already aware but the bondo to hardener ratio is 50:1, the less hardener you use the stronger the end product. Also in heat like California it’s important not to add too much hardener. Less is more, it’ll give you a decent window of work time instead of kicking/flashing early.

I was at some point quite good in my youth, skated the '80 into the '90, switch stance, and ultra skinny boards made me feel alienated. F*d my knee at age 23 in 96, and skating was over. Never got surgery and now at 51 my knee is still a problem for doing sports. Got myself a Donjoy Knee brace and made a comeback at age 35 and 40. The sk8park was packed with these scooter kids and angree parents looking at me like I was some kind of pedophile. That didn't stop me, but getting all your joints f*d did. I miss skating and love the sport so much, it's a life style, it's in your blood, no matter how old you become. The problem with skating at older age is not that you can not do it, you will get better again real quick. It's even funny and motivating, because these young stuppid weed smokers that laugh at you the first time you show up, start seeing you have become surprisingly good at these oldskool tricks and basics. They even start to feel your breath in their necks, and start training. They attempt to do nu-skool tricks, but land nothing. You even gain their respect, when you show up. Now the problem is you have to stay with the tricks you 90% land every time. And that for me was impossible, I felt I could learn new tricks, did, and than you start slamming. And that's something a working mid-life guy can not afford. So the lesson is, carve around, do the stuff you land, and stay away from pushing the limit. And pads, wrist & knee, yes or yes. Lately they have put new asphalt on my street which has a not too steep downhill, and I'm triggered to get my downhill slides back. If I do, let's see how long it takes untill I show up at work with the skin of my arm grinded off. I can do that once, and my boss will laugh his ass of, but not much more times. It's the way it is, it' the way it works. You are an adult, you have responsabilities 😰 A quick edit, a safe way to enjoy your trusty old deck, is to ride pump tracks. It's fun to do, the limit of safe is very noticeable, and you will have the skills. I do it some times with a buddy who is 59. A fun fact too is that young beginers will ask you for advice, even that 21 year old chick.... But don't loose sight, stay professional, and just only enjoy you moment of glory 🎉

Sooner or later in life, you just have to learn to accept your age and your circumstances in life. I broke my ankle 4 years ago at the Vista park when I was 49, and it went from bad to worse after two guys helped me out of the (somewhat of a) bowl, and I got off balance, put a little weight on my foot, and snap! Bone goes through my ankle, and I yelled like a motherfucker when it happened, collapsed on my back, and looked up to see blood coming through my sock, and just laid back down thinking..well this isn't good. To make things worse, my girlfriend doesn't drive, so I had to leave my car in the ally parking while she had to find a hotel to stay at, then I had to have my son's mother come from Redlands, pick up my girlfriend, and my son's mother's friend had to take my car back to my house in Banning CA. So I spent one or two (think it was two) days in the hospital in Vista, and my ex had to come back with my girlfriend who was pissed off at me about the whole thing and not knowing what to do, then needing to find a hotel. So sometimes you just get to a point in life, where you have to decide what's more important. I turned 53 last week, so it's not like I'm going to be doing the stuff I used to anymore anyway. I love, and make love to my girlfriend and that's something you can't do with a skateboard, so if my skating days are over now, I'm fine with that.
