You mean like some games the screen would just pop the object from one side to the other like a portal? Some games that I played actually took advantage of the center area as if it was a real thing but to useful effect like enemies would walk off the screen and not appear on the other screen because they would be completely gone while some objects would go between the two screens. @@w21aaaaa

The bit you were confused about on the right, the game has a mechanic where each color of enemy corresponds to a specific powerup, and if you shoot four enemies of the same color in a row, it drops that specific powerup, and the thing on the right was just showing you the most recent enemies you shot so you could keep track.

Modern mice actually have a little B&W camera with a light just angled enough to expose all of the tiny imperfections of the surface. Every time the camera takes another picture, it compares the new one with the last one it took, and calculates how much you moved the mouse. The scroll wheel, however, does have an optical encoder inside it.

You can actually get more bullets on screen in Space Invaders Extreme and Extreme 2, you just have to level up! Learning some of those complex mechanics you mentioned will do that much faster. If you're really good at SIE2 you can get the cannon to level like, 12 by the end of Stage 1.

@Tee-bn4bbАй бұрын
I loved my copy of space invaders extreme 2 a whole heck load That top screen handled the bonuses you'd get and line them up for the bingo round So if you got a certain set of bonuses (achieved by depending on what assortment of power ups you got) you could get a bingo round which gave you like a super fever mode. The spinning icons remaining on the screen is just an indicator of what colours you struck in a row for a powerup as you have to hit 4 in a row of the same colour to get a power up.

if i'm not mistaken there are encoders you can get that have a little slot and peg system you can use to give them hard stops to fake a potentiometer, bit of a missed opprotunity not to impliment something similar in this so it could have both paddle and spinner modes switchable with a little springloaded plastic lever on the back. also modern scroll wheels (and most encoders) are still optical but all the guts are stuffed inside one little jellybean whose optical wheel is a tiny clear plastic film with a barcode printed on it. there are hall effect ones but they're more expensive and annoying to drive/read.

If you shoot four of the same color in a row you get a power up however you have to fill up the side with the four It helps you keep track of oh I've shot three blue ones so I just need to shoot one more blue one without shooting another color. I think you can shoot the white ones for free but I know that there are some things you can shoot that don't reset the power up meter. James, just a note about unfolding the DS Lite screen to 180°: the hinges tend to bind up and break inside the plastic. I had that failure happen with my Pokémon Diamond & Pearl Edition DS Lite and, although I had a warranty, I paid Nintendo $60USD back in the day just to fix the problem. Now, Nintendo were fully aware of the issue when they made the DS Lite but while it was okay to do for the GBA SP, DS Gen 1 and later DSi, I think because they used the same hinge parts as the GBA SP and DS, it was a problem that Nintendo were aware of that wasn’t fixed until the DSi released. So just to recap: be VERY careful with the DS Lite hinges when using the console in full 180° open mode.

Such a great design, great approach to the technology and so many fond memories on it. Get yourself an R4 Gold and a pre-owned DS in good nick, clean it up and you've got yourself a winner! But I doubt any of them have such an impressive knob hanging off them It was a fun flashback though when you showed the white DSi, because that's the one that I've owned for a long time. It's not really functional anymore and doesn't hold cartridges but many good memories with it. Odd to see it didn't have a Slot 2 input though, seems like an unnecessary removal of a good feature.
