I have a 2001 740i that's been sitting in my parents driveway, because the timing chain guides busted while driving home one day. These videos are giving me the motivation to work on it again and start the restoration process 🙌

Thank you so much, really happy that it even helps people give some motivation :-) timing chain and guides is a tough job tho, on these engines :-D

I've heard 😰 luckily I'm pulling the engine out, the rest of the car could use some TLC though 😌

One great thing about living in the desert is zero rust. I refurbished my one owner (78 year old lady when she sold it) 90k mile E38 that was cared for its entire life by Scottsdale BMW. Her husband was a real estate developer and built the custom home for the owner of Scottsdale BMW. Car was In beautiful condition when I got it minus the accident she had with it. Drove over a large curb and caused lots of suspension and lower engine damage. Engine holder should go right through the middle of the engine. Connect both attachment points on the motor so the engine is lifted evenly and both motor mounts come off easy.

that is for sure a huge advantage :-) 90k miles car would have to be like new too.. there is no attachment point in the middle of the engine tho, or on the other side for lifting it evenly, the second hook is placed diagonally on the back of the engine, so i had no way how to place the holder to cover both hooks. but the new engine mounts are in place, so no problem there :-) but thank you

Wow… just wow… I love EVERYTHING about this video. Much love and respect! I gotta drop my subframe in my e38 due to hitting a curb so I just wanted to see how much you took off. If I’m not mistaken, the only other thing would be the steering linkage. I did a front end suspension overhaul on mine a year ago but didn’t bother to look to see what else I’d need to take off to remove the subframe because I didn’t think I’d ever have to!

thank you! and so sorry to hear that, it must've been quite a curb! :-O I originally wanted to remove the subframe, but in the end i didnt, because i felt i didnt need to

wow! lots of work, what jacks are those??? they seem like a cheaper alternative to having a full on lift in my garage.
@TheFuxxoWorksGarage Жыл бұрын
thanks! :-) it is called a scissor lift, and its actually more expensive than a regular lift (no idea why), and mine can lift 3.5 tons. and i went with this one because i do more detailing work than anything, so i need all-round access to the car, and the two post would get very much in the way. but its such a great tool, it was well worth the money
@WestGarage222 Жыл бұрын
@@TheFuxxoWorksGarage gotcha, hmmm I may just go with a regular lift then if it is really that much more… it looks convenient though. Is it operated via compressed air or hydraulic?
@TheFuxxoWorksGarage Жыл бұрын
@@WestGarage222 its hydraulic, it actually has the same hydraulic system like the 2 post, only the "scissor lifting" mechanism is different
@WestGarage222 Жыл бұрын
@@TheFuxxoWorksGarage ahhhh makes sense. Probably the benefit is portability then? Looks like it can be moved.
@TheFuxxoWorksGarage Жыл бұрын
@@WestGarage222 yes it can, doesnt need to be bolted down, and i actually got accessories for moving it
