Delivering a healthy baby, regardless of how it comes out, is the only goal that matters. I applaud everyone who shares their birth story because, while you open yourself up to criticism and judgement from those who think they know best, ultimately you help other people who may be going through something similar. Susan, your little baby girl is a sweetheart. My daughter will be 18 soon and I just adore her - it’s so fun having a mini me to share things with. Enjoy her while she’s tiny. ❤️❤️

I think it’s up to the doctor to determine if the benefits outweigh the risks of an elective C section. It’s definitely not up to you.
@naomicairns5 жыл бұрын
Adrine S If a doctor says we can try for a VBAC but in my judgement it would be best to schedule a C Section than that’s what you can responsibly do. When someone like you interjects their own opinion then you just make people feel badly for something that they didn’t really have control of. I had three uncomplicated, unmedicated births and I don’t feel like I made smarter choices that led to that. I just was fortunate. Insisting on the value of vaginal births is like insisting on the value of clean water. It doesn’t really need to be said. I think anyone who goes through a C section and a vaginal birth will, without risk, opt for a vaginal birth. I mean no offence to you but you come across as preaching and while there is something to your point of view in a very generalized sense you cannot make judgement in individual situations unless you are part of the medical team!
@naomicairns5 жыл бұрын
Adrine S I don’t think that you really understand the statistics that determine risk. C sections have saved sooooo many lives and it’s not for you to say that her C Section was unnecessary. It’s between her and her doctor. Unless you are an obgyn I’m pretty sure that you are not an expert on what’s best for Susan or any other woman. You are an expert on what’s best for yourself. That’s it.

Adrine S Fair enough. I think I’ve made my point and I’ve no wish to belabour the point. Happy New Year and take care.

Adrine S I don't think anybody actually believes that a c section is the best mode of delivery for baby or mother and hardly any mums elect to have a c section for their first baby if it's not medically necessary. However, when you've had a situation like Susan (emergency c section for her first) it can be extremely stressful to think about trying for a vagjnal birth a second time when it went so wrong the first time. A mother's mental health must also be considered when deciding on 'risks' associated with modes of delivery. I had a 24 hr induced labour with my twins which ended in an emergency c section. I would so love to have a natural birth when we have our 3rd baby but I am really torn because of the fear of a repeat of last time, hence I am considering an elective c section. Just be aware of how your comments can really make a new mum feel guilty about choosing a c section when she's just trying to choose a mode of delivery that makes her feel most relaxed and positive xx

I’m an RN for newborns/L&D/OR for c-sections. Yes, they do remove & replace some of your internal organs to do the uterine repair. Sometimes they have to remove (and put back) some of your intestines and sometimes your bladder. They usually have to take out the uterus to stitch it up.

@rochellebaby934 жыл бұрын
@Ash Ne the spinal tap didnt hurt like I was expecting it to be. They did a light injection of anesthetic (just a prick) before they did the tap to the spine. The tap to the spine just feel like pressure after the anesthetic. I started feeling my feet being tingly and then my leg and thigh being warm then numb... lol. Then they do the catheter so you wont feel that anymore. Getting it out just feels weird but not painful. They ask u to breathe in and as soon as u breathe out! Catheter is out. Best feeling ever after that lol! But when they were doing my csection, my leg felt so restless like I just wanna move it but i cant.. thats the only thing i hate about it. Like i just wanna kick! But i cant... i asked the nurse to reposition my legs but it didnt help... but you will be fine! About vagibal check??? They only checked me once when I got in, then they were like... yup youre ready! Were are doing your csection today. Oh and it happened earlier than expected.

My son came out perfectly fine I didn’t feel any pain during the c section but I felt a lot of pressure when they was stitching me up. I just want to say that the idea of a natural vaginal birth being more beautiful is kind of a myth. It is idealistic and seldom as you imagine. Birthing is dangerous and has risks regardless of how you do it. Prior to modern era giving birth was the #1 killer of women. Planned C sections have the least risk because the surgeons know what they’re expecting and can control things. Whereas a vaginal birth often has complications just because of our modern lifestyle etc. There’s a lot of tearing and potential issues with placenta and the position of you baby, hemorrhage etc. With a natural birth as well.
@lilymcmanaway4 жыл бұрын
a c section is major abdominal surgery- it is in no way 'safer' than vaginal birth. yes c sections save lives but that is ultimately what they are here for- if you are low risk, vaginal is in fact safer.

C-section is more likely to result in complications and harm. Perhaps medicated vaginal births are also risky (they are due to the drugs and how it affects the baby and mom), but I've had 4 all natural births and it was fantastic...except for transition and pushing, which hurt terribly. But that part is pretty short. I didn't have tears that required stitches and had no issues, quick recoveries. My first child I accidentally had naturally because I got to the hospital too late. With my 2nd I got an epidural, and it caused nerve damage that lasted months after delivery. I don't think the anesthesiologist did anything wrong, my body just didn't react well to it. Thus for babies 3-5, I went back to natural birthing. The pain is terrible, but it's worth the very quick recovery and no complications in my experience.

You do control what happens during natural birth. That's the whole thing - you become your body and your body does its job. Yes, there can be complications. Often they arise from the fears of not knowing what's coming or thinking you can't control things - of course among plenty of other reasons. It's great that we have the technology available to do emergency or planned c-sections. There is no need for judgement, but the truth also has to be discussed about what is more beneficial from a health perspective for the baby, and the mother. Otherwise, great story, thank you for sharing!

Since youre being “sewn” back up, your uterus is not as strong anymore. Imagine a doll being sewn up. Now, during a VBAC, you know how you’re pushing? Well, your uterus isnt as strong anymore so while you push, your uterus might rupture, or for a lack of better terms, “explode” during pushing because its held together by sutures from your c-section. If it does rupture, usually OB’s have to do an emergency c-section within 5-10 minutes and get the baby out. It is also dangerous for mom too, as you can imagine, because blood will be SPEWING out. Basically, during a VBAC, and im assuming that it depends on the hospital policies, most OB’s have to be IN HOUSE within a certain dilatation, or if the patient’s water broke, or if twins, etc. they also know how dangerous it is so they cannot be far from the hospital. Hope that answers your question!

Even though the ACOG prefers vbacs over repeat cesareans. But it's a personal choice either way.

I had csection in 2008 going to have another next week and I’m hoping that it goes just as smooth. I’ll take a csection over the screams I heard in the hospital any day. Your baby comes out a beautiful baby regardless of how they arrive.

How numb do you get? I mean do you get to feel the scalpel moving on your skin, even if it doesn’t hurt? I’m asking because I’ve previously had small procedures where they numb me, and I can’t feel the pain, but I can definitely feel the scalpel pressing me, and I think with my nerves while I’m on the table, that would be too much for me to handle! I would freak out!

Farah Ali in my experience, I was NUMB. As soon as I got the spinal, I couldn’t even lay back down I was so numb. No feeling at all until the end, when they were taking the baby out, I could very lightly feel them tugging to get her out but my husband told me later that they were shaking me to get the baby out and I had no feeling!

Thanks for sharing this story. I had a VBAC this time around but I was given the choice as there was of course a risk associated with my VBAC for several reasons. I was definitely deciding what to do for a while.

As an RN for newborn and L&D (including OR for c-sections), a c-section is NOT predictable. There is a much higher risk of hemhorrhage, emergency hysterectomy, sepsis, infant having respiratory distress, nausea and pain afterwards, cutting the bladder, scarring that attaches to your internal organs, and even death. Not saying don’t have a c-section, but for those who think it’s less risky is not true. Congrats on your VBAC.

Desiree' Cabiness very well. No complications. But because I refused to be induced to reduce the chances of a c section and because I previously had a c section I had prodromal labour for 2 weeks and then I was in active labour for 42 hours. I probably only knew because my scar was being pulled on with my cramping and contractions. But overall it went very well. She was born on her due date too.

So happy you made this type of video! I too had an emergency csection due to anesthesia and baby’s heartbeat dropping. Also he was sunny side up which made it very difficult to bring him all the way down! What was the reason you had your first csection? Was it due to baby’s position since you mentioned you felt little girl in the same area as your son?

Congratulations! I had an emergency c-section August 28th 2019 due to I wouldn't dilate more than 8cm. Found out my baby had only 8 inches for an umbilical cord so he was stuck. He is healthy and happy and I love my OB for taking care of me. 👶💙👩⚕️❤

Soooo glad to have watched this video today I'm usually a couple of weeks behind on videos. Im going in for my elective c section in on Monday and this is exactly what I needed to watch. My first was also an emergency C section and so I didn't feel any nerves until last night when it all started sinking in and this video help sooo much to ease my mind on the process.

After my first two babies I've decided the next one would be best if we scheduled a c-section. My first was a failed induction. Second was a failed vbac. My cervix is lazy and doesn't like to dilate.

The mommy shaming is so real no matter what you do. I don't understand all the judgement for having a 2nd c-section or having one to begin with. If you already had one (which wasn't a choice), don't a lot of doctors recommend a c-section anyway? I know my sister wasn't given a choice for her 2nd birth since she had complications during the first birth and had to have an emergency c-section. Regardless, thank you for sharing your story so expecting mom like me can have an idea of what happens.

🦋✨ You look absolutely beautiful, and I hope your recovery is going well. Thank you for being so vulnerable, detailed, and thorough in this video. I currently don’t have any children, but in the future I plan to have some, and if I were to have a C-section, at least I’ll have a general idea of what to expect.

Those are all of my concerns which is why I’m leaning heavily towards a vbac. TMI but I have a hernia resulting from a tear in my c-section incision (site?). It gives me problems daily and I’m a year and a half out from my c-section. Idk as much as I want to have another kid soon part of me feels like I should wait but I think I’m as healed as I will be (which kind of sucks).

I had an unplanned C Section. It was not fun. But I will need to have another c section next time because I have an inverted pelvis and large babies. The spinal went up to my neck so I couldn’t feel myself breathe. It was terrifying. I will definitely tell them I’m sensitive to anesthesia next time!

awww... she looks adorable. :) It was interesting to hear how it went. I had 2 children, both vaginal, and both difficult(because I'm small and they were big). I wish I had been given the choice of a planned C-section. Enjoy this time, it goes by sooo fast. Now I'm enjoying my first grandchild, much easier for me! :) I'm sharing your tips with my daughter, so keep them coming!

This is good to know! I am very small, with a large baby coming and they offered me the choice.. I’ve been watching videos to get some clarity on what I want to do (my first baby). I’m under 5 feet and very petite and she will be roughly 10 pounds at 40 weeks. She’s 8 now at 36 weeks.. I also have gestational diabetes so this happens I guess, even if it’s well managed 🤦🏻♀️ I’ve always been athletic and fit

Thank you for this video! Im 20 weeks and am planning on a C-section! I had some trauma and lots of scar tissue from major tears from my 2 previous natural births and i really don't want to go through that again, I'd rather have the harder recovery 😅

@@mummybey534 I had an amazing experience... and that's coming from a person who wanted a "natural" delivery with no interventions lol. The c section was very gentle, they pulled down the curtain so I could see baby as soon as she came out of me.. I held her the entire time they stitched me back up. Your nurse anesthetist is going to be your best friend during the surgery.. he/she will make sure you are comfortable the whole time. I was up and walking the night of the surgery, my nurses were amazing. Trust your care team. I chose to breast feed and my baby did not latch right away but her blood sugars were ok because we did skin to skin (isn't that neat?). She finally latched about 6 hours after she was born and we've been nursing ever since! No supplementing was needed because her blood sugars were good. Milk came in the second night. Something I wasn't expecting was the feeling of getting the catheter taken out and feeling like would never pee/poop normal again.. but it goes back to normal lol. And a perk of c-section that I wasn't expecting besides no risk of tearing was the little amount of bleeding that happens afterwards because your OB will clean up most of the blood before you are stitched up. So you will continue to bleed, but not as much as if you delivered vaginally. You got this =)
