My hair is thinning. I've lost incredible amounts of hair. My hair is falling out. This is embarrassing, hard, emotional and really just so dumb. I'm struggling with PCOS hair loss and so many of you have also reached out to me as well to tell me about yours. I had zero desire to film and share this video with you, but what kind of a health and women's wellness advocate would I be if I kept pretending? I use Bombshell Hair Extensions. I have the beaded wefts in. My hair is done by Victoria Escobar in Ashburn VA at Salon Vie. With her help I have hair that I can be proud of and completely hide my own hair loss.

I teared up watching this video because I relate so much. Because of PCOS, my hair has been my biggest insecurity and it seems like no one else understands besides us PCOS girls. I have cried for days on end over how thin, dry, brittle and damaged my hair has become. The thinning on my scalp is something I can't help but look at whenever I look in the mirror. It has caused my so much anxiety and insecurity that I have trouble getting the courage to leave the house. I started to cry when you mentioned how you felt like your husband would never understand because that is EXACTLY how I feel when I discuss it with my boyfriend. You feel so out of control and helpless and no matter what, hair loss is always on your mind. Your bravery and honesty about your hair loss makes me feel like I can also overcome this. Even if my hair doesn't grow back, I want to come to terms with it and learn how to be more confident. PCOS related hair loss is something that is not talked about enough and I just wanted to thank you for this video. You made me feel less alone for once 💕

I feel you. By just combing my hair after shower I lose 25 - 30 strands of hair. It brings me to tears and anxiety looking at the clumps of hair. If its okay with you, can I hear any supplements or care to your hair? I just got diagnosed 6months ago. Thank you very much! 🥰

@@vainsterz I feel the same way- I absolutely dread the days I have to wash my hair for that exact reason. As for hair supplements and care, I had bloodwork done which shows I have very high testosterone so my focus has been lowering that to hopefully stop the hair loss. For that specifically, I have been drinking two cups of spearmint tea a day because apparently this has been shown to help lower your testosterone levels (getting bloodwork done in about a month so will update on if it is indeed lower). I also have been taking a zinc supplement (30mg) each day as well as vitamin D because I seem to be deficient in both of those. I take Ovasitol twice a day in my spearmint tea because I have insulin resistance which I guess can also increase testosterone and Ovasitol is supposed to help with regulating that. I recently purchased saw palmetto plus from Dr. Jolene Brighton and I have not started taking it yet but I have heard promising things about saw palmetto and re-growing hair from pcos hair loss. The reason I went with that specific one is because Dr. Jolene Brighton is an amazing doctor that knows a lot about PCOS and women's health so I really trust the quality and safety of her supplement. If you haven't heard of her, definitely check her out she is full of knowledge to help us PCOS girls! I also started taking a probiotic at the same time I started everything else, not specifically for hair loss but for overall health. Haircare wise, I try to be gentle with my hair. I really try to avoid heat which is easier said than done 🙄 I do easy hairstyles like loose braids, low pony or low bun. This is easier for me not only because I don't have to put heat on my hair, but also because the sight of my hair makes me really insecure. Especially on my scalp because that is where I am losing most of my hair and where it is the most noticeable. I have only been doing this for a few months so I hope that I start to see results soon. Sorry this was such a long post but I really want to help people because I know how sad, frustrating and lonely this can all be. Please let me know if you have any questions or just want to talk!! wishing you the best of luck 💕

You are so brave for making this video! I use to have very thick hair, so thick it would take a minimum of 5-6 hours to air dry. For the last 9 years I have been struggling with hair loss and now it takes maybe 20-30 minutes for my hair to air dry. I have lost what feels like 75% of my hair. It’s been like pulling teeth going to doctors, my OBGYN, and dermatologist. I had to push them hard and I have finally been diagnosed with PCOS. I completely understand what you mean by trying to convey how much hair you have lost and those around you not really seeing what you are seeing. I use to get so frustrated with my husband I started showing him how much hair I would lose after bathing and brushing just so he could see exactly what I was seeing. I started taking zinc to help lower my androgen levels because I suspect that’s what is causing the hair loss and I’m about a month and a half in and I have noticed a significant decrease in the hair loss. There is still more than normal hair loss but any improvement gives me hope. Thank you for sharing this video!

BUT ive decided to come to terms with it and everything that comes with pcos if I cant fully love myself how I am now how can I love myself when ive lost the weight and taken care of myself. Hey Lauren, this must have been a difficult video to shoot .... but I'm glad that you were brave enough to.... could relate to it .... I think for women it's not just about vanity.... it's one thing to have decent hair and cry over wanting to be Rapunzel but to lose more than 50% of our hair with no warning feels unfair and terrible to put it mildly and it's worse when we're young and hair represents so much more than just looking good being a woman. Thanks for being so honest. Appreciate it a lot!

God I literally felt this to my core... I dyed my hair 2 years ago blonde, and it fried off 12 inches of my already brittle but long hair. I’ve been doing everything I can to grow it back and haven’t dyed it since but it just breaks off or falls out at the root. I’m going to take a lot of supplements for pcos hoping that helps stimulate some new growth... I want hair extensions as well but even more I just want my hair back. Makes me feel less like myself. Hair is a huge part of many women’s identity. Pcos sucks. But how amazing is that you had a baby! That’s a blessing, many ppl struggle with infertility including myself. Sending lots of hugs. you’re not your symptoms!

Thanks for talking about this! To me that's actually a lot of hair and I can't really see anything wrong with it. Very often we think that people stare and judge, even though they really don't, it's just our own massive insecurities pushing through. Still it's an awful thing and really reduces the quality of life. I've also had massive hairloss since I hit puberty, it's been going on for 17 years now. I'd give everything for that amount of hair 🙏🏻 The worst thing was one super insensitive friend who joked about it during college ("oh are u going through a cancer threatment I don't know about", "oh wow a balding woman"). But I've decided not to care, and have my hair just natural. Have to wash it every morning with no exceptions and it takes a lot of effort.

Aww hi Lauren, I loved your video - thank you for being so open and vulnerable with your PCOS story for us to listen to!! I haven't exactly been diagnosed with PCOS (I have a gyno appointment coming up in October) but I have several cysts on both of my ovaries. I'm 23 and my hair is long but it's definitely thinning out so much. I notice it in the shower and after the shower the most and it IS terrifying, especially as a young woman going through this process. It's SAD, I feel you with the insecurities from it and I'm fearful of what my future with this is going to look like. I try doing hair masks and researching ways to reverse these effects and although some of them help, I've noticed I'm still losing hair which makes me SO sad :( I've heard that not combing through wet hair (and actually staying away from hair brushes and combs altogether) work well to avoid further hair loss and hair damage, but like, how hard is that?! I've been doing hair masks containing essential oils, raw eggs, avocados, olive oil.. the whole mix, and they do help but I'm again, still losing hair :( I just wanted to thank you for helping me feel like I am not alone in this journey and hopefully some more research about how to help this condition comes out soon. Take care, have a wonderful day :)

Hi! I’m 23 this week and dealing with the same thing.... I know this sounds stupid but drink green tea!! 3-5 cups per day before and after meals to help with insulin resistance, and take saw palmetto supplements (I take x2 450mg after breakfast and x2 after dinner) struggled with PCOS since start of this year and extreme hair shedding and thinning and I have found that has really helped slow it down. It still happens a ton, but SO much less. I would go outside and if it was windy, the hair would just blow out the root it was that bad, now it’s a lot better. I have another scan tomorrow to see if I have cysts as they’re not sure (as you can have PCOS but no cysts)! Anyway hope that helps

I am new to your channel and I found this video and had to watch it! I struggle with hair loss BIG TIME!!! It of course happened after I had each one of my children, but after I had my 3rd baby, it got worse. Then I had the mirena in for almost 4 years. It caused me all sorts of problems and the one major issue is how much hair I was losing. Everyone I talked to insisted I must have a thyroid issue because honestly I had almost every single symptom of a thyroid issue and almost every woman in my family has thyroid issues. But I have been checked 5 times now, and every time the tests comes back borderline. Anyways, all that being said....I still struggle with thin hair. It really bothers me a lot. I have wanted to get extensions so many times, but my hair stylist tells me that hair extensions will only damage my hair more. I am at a loss about it and try to not let it bother me. But KZbin world, all the women seem to be getting hair extensions and I am so envious of the long, thick hair.

I love my hair and dying it is an extention of my confidence and thinking about my hair falling out in one go really brings it down and makes me self conscious so I rarely have it up now or I never style it or anything. I use bamboo shampoo and conditioner and I eat bamboo as it can help with hair loss but I'm just so worried it could be too late for certain areas to grow back .

I have been to my GP, my OB, and a dermatologist. No answers. Blood test all good. It’s crazy. And I have always had my beautiful hair. This year has been awful for me. And even though things could be a million times worse and I am so blessed. It is still so hard to lose your hair. I nursed for 26 month and when I started weaning was also around the time I noticed it thinning!?! I feel you! (Hugs) it being out of your control is what is so annoying. I used to do so much research and I have tried everything to re grow my hair, lose weight, stop facial hair growth, get pregnant and keep a pregnancy( I do have a 12 year old son but I have also suffered 13 losses) but nothing ever worked and I literally gave up. And now with all that is going on in this world, I am even more stressed about myself because I am at home looking at myself all day just being unhappy with my hair loss and my weight and ughhhhh!!! Anyways I will say I do follow your Instagram and I know people only show what they choose to but I will have to say you are a very lucky woman to be a “thin Cyster” and have 3 beautiful children and a husband who loves you very much. ❤️❤️❤️ also saw lilah wish for her whole finger to come back and omg!!!! I literally teared up. She is absolutely precious!!!!!

Oh my heavens. ❤️😭 bless your heart!!!!! I have so many thoughts on this for you. I know the struggle of facial hair, weight, loss and all of that. My weight it something I have to work on every day because it is not my natural body tendency to stay thin. I have worked out 5-7 days a week since I was about 18. It’s something I truly enjoy doing though so I’m thankful for that. Carbs and sugar and my enemy. Makes my PCOS flare terribly and that makes hair and skin an even bigger issue as well as weight. Blessings to you!!

Lauren Stewart thank you for responding!!! Yes it has been a very rough road for me. I have accepted the fact that I will only have one child and I thank god every day for him! I try to work out and diet etc. but I always get off tracked because I literally have no energy and just want to sleep all day! That love symptom of depression from my PCOS I believe. I am working on my carbs and sugars tho, mainly to start some weight loss and hoping maybe it will help with some hair loss. My skin has been way better butttttt, that’s mostly because I kind of gave up on myself. I used to not leave the house with out makeup on and dressed and my hair done!!!! These last couple of years I have given all that up. I feel like no matter what I do it’s not going to help so why waste my time. Again depression.😩 but I want to thank you!!! It’s women like you that help other women think more positively about something we clearly can’t fix permanently. Wishing many blessings to you as well and good luck with your next round of ivf!!!!! 🙏😘

I was diagnosed with PCOS since I was about 15 yrs old and really didn’t pay much attention to it. Now that I am in my 40’s I have lost most of my frontal hair (basically bald) and the rest is super thin and frizzy compared to the thick and much fuller hair I had in my 20’s. I am SUPER prissy, used to be a model in my younger years and so am very self conscious. My husband has never seen me with my normal hair for the past at least 15 years. I resulted to the hair club and then weaving just the top of my head and now just purchased a hair topper (not too sure how I like this but oh well). I have gained about 40 pounds with this quarantine / pandemic situation. Just a hot mess. Lol. Would love to hear of other women going through this and becoming friends because I have always tried talking to others and no one seems to understand what PCOS is and think I am just saying that to excuse myself from eating for the weight gain. Just crazy.

Hi! Santi, I have not diagnosed with PCOS or anything. But I loss lots of hair everyday, every hour every minute. I always want to cry and I don't want to talk about it with anybody. Thank you for sharing, because of this I have the courage to share it with you having almost the same situation. I feel hopeless to the point that I want to stop working and stay at home all the time. It's only God who made me feel that I need to live and serve HIM to the best I can. ❤️

what helped to lose weight was a protein diet, a carnivore. You can make a low carb rich in protein. I've tried everything, physical activity, low calorie diet, low fat, paleo, low carb. Protein diet improved hormonal status, decreased insulin and androgen levels. my hair is growing a lot and bald areas are better

I just realised mine is the same. I’ve curly hair so it looks like it’s thick. But I’ve got patches “male pattern balding” happing the past couple of years. But I hard too start straightening my hair for allergies in hair products. Anyways I’m currently trying to find a solution to it all too and came across this video. I think I’ll look into hair extensions now too. ❤️

I lose it and it never grows back. I had been shaving my head for a while now because i have around as much hair as a barbie. No lie when I'd put my hair in a ponytail it was as thick as Barbies. I have actual male pattern baldness from my pcos. I wore hats to cover it and cropped the top of my head out of every picture. I was sooooooo depressed and self conscious I said fuck it and decided to shave it off because at least that I could control. Now after struggling so much I just embrace my bald head. Still slightly insecure but not so much I let it take over my life anymore.

I have pcos too and I think I know some things that may help you you could go on metformin (it helps balance your hormones by dealing with your insulin resistance) it works wonders for pcos women from everything to regulating cycles and helping them get pregnant and all the other symptoms we have to deal with. ♥️ another thing that could help you is Keto collagen protein powder (it helps with hair growth and your skin and nails plus it’s zero carb and tastes delicious in like a morning cup of coffee) something that can help you stop losing hair is a tea tree oil shampoo and conditioner it helps keeps your scalp clear of DHT which caused hair fallout from our higher testosterone levels or you could use the nizoral shampoo too it does the same thing I just prefer tea tree oil 😊 hope that helps you a little and I’m loving watching your videos♥️
