I'm glad that everything went so well Ken! I'm 81 years old and I had both knees done, right one done in 2009, the left in 2010. They both have been very good so far. The one thing that you should do is make sure you do the therapy so that you have full range of motion with that knee. Good luck with both knees!! Hi Ken, I've been watching for 3 or4 years. I spent 12years pounding nails then worked as a millwright in a paper mill the next 30 yrs. I have had knees cleaned up 7 times over the years until I was told they couldn't repair them so new knees I came. Couldn't waite. I first one went great recovery was short and movement was like a kid again. Six months later I had my other knee replaced recovery was a little slower. 12 years later it still is the best I have been in the past 35 years. God is great is all I can say. The medical staff didn't understand why I had a peace and calm before I went into the OR. May God Bless and keep you in his arms.

Good morning, Ken! I'm very happy for you and for your recovery! I now have 3 replacement joints. One shoulder, two hips. Hips are WAY easier to recover from than shoulders, and from what I understand from folks who've had their knees replaced (my mother in law and others), the knee recovery was awesome! I hope you have the same success. What I CAN tell you is this. Your body will try to trick your mind. Your knee is gonna feel great and you'll think, "oh, I can go do this or that." DON'T DO IT!! (ask me how I know!) Please, Ken follow the Doctor's and Physical Therapists orders to the letter! Best wishes for a quick, full and painless recovery! Fell better soon! God bless you, Brother.

Had my right knee replaced in 2018, the recovery area nurses said I was the first to wake up singing and said I entertained them for about 15 minutes. (Made them even happier when I took them 6 hour smoked baby back ribs 3 weeks later. Your experience is very close to mine that was done a Sharp Coronado (CA) Hospital. My pain block lasted 3 days and only took Tylenol after that.

Oh my goodness, Ken! Is that how they do it nowadays? Total knee replacement on an outpatient basis, and send you home the same day?! I had no idea. Congratulations for getting it done. I will be praying for you to have a speedy recovery. I need a couple of new knees, too, but I have been terrified to have the surgery. Your video is a huge help to encourage me to do it. I'm so glad you had a positive experience. I understand the slight confusion over the details, too. I had gall bladder surgery in September. It was the first time I ever was put under general anesthesia and had a "real" surgery (other than having babies or having a tooth pulled 😂) , and I had a hard time remembering all the details in order after all was said and done. I think they put something in the IV to knock you out, because the same thing happened to me... I remember climbing up onto the operating table, then some guy was putting these squeezy things on my calves, and the next thing I knew I was waking up in recovery! The next day the surgeon visited me in my room before I went home, and she said she talked to me in recovery, but I had no memory of that. I think they also use a drug that makes you not able to remember, especially in case you wake up during the procedure! ❤🙏❤

Wow glad you came through it ok.

Good to hear it worked out well and the details reminded me of my knee surgery back in 1978. When the 3rd person was asking me the same questions again, I said is this a dementia test for me or you all 😆. It was 5 AM and they gave me the sleepy juice and told me to count backwards from 100, the surgeon came into the room and I was down to 34, he told them I need more 🙃. I woke up in a room around 5 PM with a nurse threatening me with catherization if I didn't pee, I said where's the jug 🤣😯😲😳🤓and was pulling the cord for another jug. Bless you and your daughter for being there for you.

I’m so glad that your knee replacement went well. Remember to listen to your medical team, and keep that positive attitude. Things are probably going to suck when the medicine wears off, but you can do this! I’m glad they got you up and walking right away. Do all of the things and tasks that they give you to do. Bless your daughter, Lauren, for helping you out so much! Give her an extra hug for me. All of the questions and consultations are precautions against doing the wrong procedure or doing the right procedure on the wrong person. You are so lucky that you had a good nurse for the IV. (My veins suck, too, and after some of the things I’ve been through, they get one shot at each arm before I tell them to go get a sonogram vein finder!) I’ve been told that I can be pretty amusing when I’m coming back out of anesthesia. My friend that had the hip replacement on Monday lucked out, because they managed to not cut any of the muscles. She said that her excruciating hip pain is GONE, that she’s been sleeping better than she has in years, and she’s already been home for a couple of days!

Ken, nice story. Very similar to mine. I have had 3 knee replacements. First the left and a year later the right and 2 years later the right again. Turns out the glue they use did not exist or was very sparse in the lower fixture. It was going to be up to a 10 hr surgery. But only tool about 3. The surgeon told me he never experienced this. He cut me open and got to the knee and it fell out in his hands. All good now and I can kneel on hard surfaces with my left but need a husky pad from HD to kneel on my right. Since then I had both shoulders replaced and the last a month ago. I am so glad I had everything replaced. I feel great. Yes, when the block is off. You will need something stronger than Tylenol. Don't push things for a few to three weeks. And the magic is in ice. Ice all the time. If you go out for any length of time velcro on some cold packs. That will make things much easier. Great video. Thanks for posting this.

Fantastic news. Nice to see you up and about so soon. Being younger, Doctors recommended my wife put off having a knee replacement. Being very active and dealing with this for 10 years with therapy and wearing hinged knee brace and fighting pain finally had it replaced at 52. With this said recovery was a lot harder for her. Took a year of therapy and chiropractic adjustments to straight her body frame for normal walking. It’s nothing to walk 10 mile mountain trail.

@sharonwalker2498Ай бұрын
@@kenskarpentry that is good. and I know you have discharge instructions so all of them the best you can just remember, don’t let your pain get above a five without taking a pain medication otherwise it’ll get you hard to control. Back when I was first started nursing 30 years ago a knee surgery patient wasn’t out of bed until the next day and they weren’t discharged for like four days so they really made great strides and doing knee and hip surgeries now where you can actually go home the same day or the next morning. But again blessings should you heal safely and quickly.

There were eight other patients lined up in the pre-op rooms to have the same surgery that day. We were kept overnight, but the next morning we all went to a pt session and we all passed our walking, stair climbing exercise, and we all got to go home. I'm so glad you got your knee replaced! Yay, Lauren drove you to your surgery. Harmony! I'm so glad it was such a great experience! It sounds like they took good care of you! I'm glad you felt excited about the surgery. So glad you felt like family. I know it's so nice to be out of the pain it can be. Fiona sounds like a great nurse. General anesthesia sounds like a standard way to put you under. That's good that your surgeon saw you before the surgery. I've had that happen when I had my colonoscopy. I fell asleep the first two times I had it because they gave me too much meds. The last one I had I actually got to watch the screen. We're all a little wacky after being knocked out Ken! Yum, chicken and mashed potatoes before you did your walk. They had to change out your knee cap to a plastic one? Whoa! Wow, a 3 lb sledge hammer to put the new knee in. Yay, you walked out to the car! Yum, Thai food. Got your meds. Wow, only Tylenol? That's incredible! Yes, get in front of the pain before it gets too bad! Thanks for this video Ken! It was great to see Lauren again!
