I met David Blaine once on a plane. I'm the only magician in my family and I recognized him. He was in first class practicing magic with his playing cards, and I said hi to him and he said he'd meet me later. After takeoff he walked to the last row in the plane, which we were in, and performed a magic trick for us and took a photo. He was really nice and not awkward like in this video.

I also met David Blaine once in the Miami airport. He was performing magic for a kid and a security guard, and I looked over, and said to my friend, "doesn't that look like an overweight David Blaine to you?" After he was finished with his trick, I went over, and said i'm a fan, and would love a picture. He took a picture with me, and then I asked him if I could buy him a drink when our flight landed. He texted me his number and said he'd love to get drinks with us. He ended up on the plane pretty close to my friend, who told me he just slept for the whole flight. I texted him for drinks after we landed, and he never responded. I think it was a fake phone number that he uses for fans, even though his initial text to me worked.

Yet instead of shying away, they act randomly, they do things to *shock* people. An they put up a facade of flaunting themselves. I dont know this magician. However ive known more than 1 person with this pattern of behavior. Its a more uncommon form of social anxiety. Its like someone who is trying to break out of the anxiety, but is stuck in it regardless. The imbalance blacks them from being social enchanters. Yet theyre not exactly sinking into themselves either. Hard to explain. Easy to observe. My ass would have let him run off. @Paul Martinez- I think so too, he was probably trying to disturb a fellow magician's mind for whatever reason, no harm to that. My son and I hada great encounter with David Blaine. David Blaine, one of the most humble and approachable celebrities I ever met, we said hello to him. me and my young son, in a theater in New York City as we went to see SpongeBob. My son recognized him. David took the time to stop and crouched down to my young son's height, so that he could be as tall as my young son. Then David started to have a one on one conversation with my son, shaking his hand, asking him questions about his name, how old he was, what he liked, etc...and asking him if he was going to see Sponged -Bob as well, my son responded yes, so David gave him his SpongeBob's movie tickets, telling my son to enjoy the movie etc...So David just gave us his movie tickets when he could have just said "hello". I know David performs amazing magic tricks but that was quite an amazing humility trick. A real cool classy guy. His success is so well deserved for many years of hard work perfecting his craft. Thanks David, cause for my son and I, you added an extra special note to our movie going afternoon that day.

manniefaces The more interviews or stories like this I see of him the more I think he’s on the spectrum. I have Asperger’s (I know, not technically a diagnosis anymore, and no, it doesn’t qualify me to figure out who else is before people jump at me.) But with the way he misses social cues and sarcasm, it makes sense to me. He does a lot of smiling/laughing after the interviewer or another person does which is pretty typical, copying reactions becomes almost instinctive if you can’t pick up the emotions or tone of something. Also “special interests” are really common with Asperger’s/autism. I have a few but they tend to cycle. They’re different than just a hobby, or even a passion since they can easily border obsessive (and OCD is a common co-morbid of autism, like anxiety and ADHD.) So if magic is a really meaningful thing to him, and he wants to always know every single detail about exactly how every aspect of it works, and surround himself with it completely, to a sometimes obsessive point, it doesn’t surprise me at all he’s incredible at what he does. I’d actually be way more surprised by somebody who was neurotypical, but had that level of passion and focus on just one thing, and also just happened to be socially awkward.

I have an amazing David Blaine story!!!! A couple weeks ago on June 7, 2017 I went and saw one of David Blaine's shows on his tour in Spokane, Washington. My family and I made it in Spokane, but we had missed a turn so we had to take a detour. We stopped at a four way stop, and out of the corner of my eye I saw David Blaine get into a Jaguar. My mom who was driving tailed the Jaguar until it pulled over. We saw David Blaine get out of the Jaguar so I get out and I said "Hey" David peers over his shoulder to look at me and he says "hello." Then I said shyly "I am big fan of your work," and David says "thank you" and I give him a light fist bump. I asked if he would like to sign one of my cards, he says that he would be right back to put his stuff away in his tour bus. David Blaine comes back and he took the ace of spades from my deck and he signs To Spencer Elvis and his signature. He asked if I had a camera on my phone if I wanted to pose for pictures, but I had forgotten my phone, and David Blaine replies in his soothing voice "Well Shit" as if he was surprised that I am one of the few teenagers who isn't attached to their phone, but my mom was taking pictures of the event in the distance. And I said "thank you" and I saw David Blaine walking back to his tour bus. That is the story of how I met David Blaine.

In my experience, people like Blaine, (showman / socially awkward since birth), behave like this as a form of control, not just of his audience but also himself. You'll know what I mean if you watch his talk show appearances, because of the contrast between him, the host and the crowd. He speaks and moves in a way which makes you wait with bated breath for the most insignificant thing, like a simple conversation in an elevator. This sets the tone he needs to perform, or speak, but also allows him to slowly and carefully execute his move without trying to keep up with everyone else's erratic nature. More simply, if you act like slow and serious, people pause for you.

I've known two people who have met David and the both in their own way have shared the awkward experience that is David Blaine. He doesn't talk much, kinda mumbles, only says like 4 words at a time, and doesn't carry conversation, ever. It was described as being with someone who appears to always be thinking but doesn't want to tell you what is on their mind.

That's how editing works anywhere lol you were invited to an editing session, it doesn't matter if they're editing magic tricks or the newest episode of Game of Thrones, editing probably takes the longest of anything because the only way to know is to try things... 73 times, as you said.

OMG that was so funny. Thanks so much for sharing. Told and edited prefectly. Made me laugh, especially the font because of my background. Not being a magician...but... having worked with fonts for quite some time (aka the more traditional label: typefaces) and with a company that invented some of the most commonly used typefaces for over 100 years (Times Roman)... I can clear up one of your questions for you. The answer you gave in a delayed fashion was close enough. For the next time this happens to you, my answer would have been ... Tragic. That's all i got. "What do you say to that". Oh that was so funny.
