That's an excellent collection of CDs that you have there, Morgan. It's great that people of your generation are still buying music in physical format, be it CD or vinyl. I started collecting music when I was buying cassettes in the 1980s 😂 I switched to buying and collecting CDs in the 1990s. I have a lot of them now 🤣 I am looking forward to see how your collection develops and expands.

Thanks! I’m glad I joined the vinyl community as it’s making a comeback in my generation. From my experience I think vinyl is more popular (to collect) among people my age but I also like CDs too. I only know a few people with actual CD players and some newer cars don’t even have them lol. You must have some really cool CDs and cassettes in your collection since you’ve been collecting for such a long time! My collections are always growing so soon I’ll need more space haha!

Nice start. Ive been collecting since CDs first came out. I just went through my entire collection over the last 3 months and organized mine. I have over 700 CDs. I had to replace a bunch of them due to DISC ROT and I had many that were scratched. I had about 3% or 4% of my collection subject to DISC ROT so keep this in mind when handling and storing CDs. I alphabetized mine by surname and band name. But I have 6 different categories of music. To differentiate the different categories I use colored 1/2 inch electrical tape along the spine at the bottom. I have mine categorized by Roc/Rap/Pop/Popular Comedy (RED TAPE). Country (BLUE TAPE). Pop/Rock Compilations (RED and YELLOW TAPE). Country Compilations (BLUE and Yellow Tape). Movie/Film/Radio and Theater Soundtracks (WHITE TAPE). And finally World Music such as Classical, Classical crossover, Jazz, New Age, Celtic, and traditional are classified with GREEN TAPE. I used to work for a radio station so this was how we did ours back then. Ive been wanting to organize mine like this for years and finally got around to doing it. It looks cool color coded in my shelving system. I also created a master list to print off and put in a 3 ring binder. Some of my CDs are rare and very expensive to replace so Ive noted that in my logbook. This will give you ideas as to things to keep in mind as your collection expands. Keep collecting!!!

What is DISC ROT? I have been collecting CDs since 1983 and own over 2000 by now. ALL my CDs play the exact same way as they did when they were brand new. What did you do to destroy CDs?

Go with the cds. The vinyl takes up too much space and you’ve got to flip the record over to hear the whole album. Have no idea who these bands are, but you did a good presentation. The guitar in the corner is well placed; no clutter in the background. Ashton would, I think, agree.
@MorganBrandon2 жыл бұрын
Vinyl is high maintenance but that’s just the nature of it. I do like CDs because they don’t have to be flipped over, but I love both my CD and record collections. I have a shelf designated to my records. I listen to “modern/current” music, so most of these artists and bands are what you’d hear on the radio today. I have a small minimalist room so no clutter!

Nice CD collection 😎 I catalogue artists in my collection by their surname. So Calvin Harris and Niall Horan would be under 'H' and Martin Garrix under 'G' 😉

Lol I just switch first and last names for no reason. I should fix it, it’s more official by surname I believe😂

When I first started buying CDs in 1983, there were CD players for sale but no CDs. CDs were not made in the U.S. until 1985. Until then, you could only buy CDs made in either Japan or Germany. They cost $33 each and were only the music popular in the home country at the time. When I went to record stores in the U.S. from 1983-1985 and asked to purchase CDS, the employees told me to go to a bank where I could find CDs (Certificates of Deposit) for sale. They never heard of music CDs at that time.

@@MorganBrandon don't collect for value. Collect what you enjoy, others will enjoy too. It's always cool to end up with ones that go up jn value. I've been collecting mine since music was a part of my life. I've also got around 800 now. Some vinyl. Vinyl is cool, but having the duplicate on cd will prolong its life for sure.
