I've owned an EOS 50 (Elan II) since 1996, and I brought it out of its decade long retirement. In addition, I recently purchased an EOS 55 (Elan IIE with panoramic feature) and a 28-80mm lens in Japan for under US$70.

I purchased my first SLR in 1987. It was the Canon EOS 650, with a 50mm f/1.8 lens. I still have both. They still work. I still love them. I also have the EOS 5 (European version of the A2e), which became my favorite film camera. There's never been a need (or desire) to jump from brand to brand. Canon EOS has always given me the features I needed (except the 650 did not have multiple exposures). Once I went digital, it was great not having to start over with lenses.

In my experience as with digital, film photography is affected by trends. Right now everyone owns either vintage manual focus cameras, or huge mamiyas and pentax 67. Medium format is the current trend. Many pros use these EOS cameras for their excellent metering systems, the AF etc. it's basically a DSLR shooting film rolls. You tell me about quality after shooting pro grade film on an EOS 5 QD with an L lens. They are essentially indistinguishable or even better than 6x7 quality, if one doesn't take into account the different depth of field. But.. it's just trends.

Awesome Craig. I’m Nikon family 1st so I can relate & have a handful. I am wanting to revisit what Canon had to compare. Used the F-1n & now testing the EOS 1n. Now I came across the, new to me, EOS 500n. It was affordable enough to just get for a sidekick on a walk about. 500n reminds me of Nikon F90x

The EOS 620 was a really nice early autofocus film camera. It had a metal feel that the later cameras didn’t have. There are some aftermarket lens that won’t work on the digital cameras. I have a Sigma 28-200 that didn’t make it into the digital era, I am glad I kept it for the rebirth of film photography.

I really like the Ef mount. It enables a whole lot of adaptability with other brands for lenses. I can mount my m42s on them and be able to use them with my efm as well. Ive recently received my eos 66 and the lightweight body is definitely a win. Id like to see more about the rebel G because it's so common but to be able to compare it with the other slrs is a great bonus.

For my film outfit I used to shoot with the Canon Rebel G then I switched to a Rebel 2000... Both cameras are multi-functional, easy to use compact cameras but the fact that I like the most is that they are extremely lightweight and portable. Recently I purchased an Elan IIe which I like for the eye control feature but unlike the former ones this camera is much bigger and heavier. I got it with the battery grip and a 28 - 135 USM is zoom lens that weights a ton! Compared to the G even with grip and zoom lens also this thing is massive! Getting used to it but now I'm thinking in getting an Elan 7.

I bought a new Rebel G for $25. I haven’t gotten it yet. Your video is one of the best on KZbin. I recommend you maybe review film stocks and show lots of samples etc. make more engaging content and build a community. You could even have your audience submit their photos as little challenges and you review them. I notice you get a lot of views. Your content is good but it’s more informative. For the most flexibility you'll probably want to go with the EOS-1n or EOS-1v. The ELAN series and the EOS A2e have a slower flash sync speed I think.

It's 2020 and I went back to film (35mm) using Canon's EOS camera bodies (I have six of them) and five EF lenses do to the high cost of going to a DSLR full frame camera. All used equipment from Ebay of course in excellent to mint condition. Right now I have my film processed and scanned through a company called "The Dark Room" located in California and they are still open for business! I do not have one the Canon EOS 1 models yet. That's a great camera. Ironically I'm reviewing the camera for one of my upcoming videos. In terms of lenses, the nifty fifty is a great addition to any EOS camera. You really can't go wrong with adding that especially if your current lenses are zoom lenses. That being said I'm sure you can shoot some awesome stuff with the lenses you currently have if you decide not to add the 50mm right away. Have you shot on film before?

I think those lenses should work on the 400D & 50D without issue. I can't remember if those lenses are EF or EF-S. If they are EF-S (for the crop sensor bodies) then they won't work on the 5D.

Definitely use a tripod, use a fast lens something around f1.8 (the EF 50mm f1.8 would be good), use high ISO film (or at least 400 ISO but 800 or 3200 if you can get some). Try to shoot wide open for around 30 seconds but give yourself lots of tries to get it right. Shoot a few rolls and bracket your shots. Shoot some at 30 seconds but shoot some longer or shorter. One of the best things you can do to make it easier is to scout your location and know it well before it gets dark. Getting focus might be the most difficult part. Find something in the distance to focus on if you can. Just take your time and keep trying, I bet you'll shoot some amazing stuff. Let me know how it goes! Thanks for watching and commenting!

Thx. Only recently been aware of these. First I got a very nice 50e for around $40. Then I discovered the 7s and bought that too. And just because I loved the look of the black EOS 55, I had to get it. Only $60 for a copy in mint condition. I don't own any L glass, but I think Canon's old 28-135mm is quite good. For wider shots I use Sigma's veteran, the 15-30mm. And I also have a copy of the cheap but very nice Canon 70-300mm (1st. ver.) f/4.5-5.6. And the EF 35mm f/2 rounds up my selection of full frame Canons. Maybe one day I'll invest in L-glass, but my money intially went into the EF-S system unfortunately. Still enjoy these though. Btw I like the music. (2nd edit :-D)

what do you recommend between eos5 eos55 and 300v?
@CraigBergonzoni
@CraigBergonzoni 3 жыл бұрын
It's a close call between the EOS 5 & EOS 55. The EOS 5 has 1/8000 max shutter speed and spot metering but the the 55 is a little more compact. So it might depend on what you're shooting. Go with the EOS 5 if you're not sure what you're shooting or just exploring. Having the faster shutter speed options and more metering options will give you flexibility. Thanks for watching! Best of luck!
