Love this idea/video! Would love to see other Commander Crew member do this! Richard's essential mono white, Tomer's essential budget (maybe land or ramp focused?), Seth's essential jank, Phil's essential value pile. Something like that anyways :)

I've been a Grixis fan since I built Thraximundar back in 2011 and it warms my heart to see so many of my all time favorite cards in this video getting the love they deserve. Cruel Ultimatum truly is the greatest card of all time

One of my earlier Commander decks was Crosis the Purger, that was discard tribal with a subtheme of specters and dragons. It's how I came to love Sedraxis Specter. People tended not to let me get off the ground, especially Crosis itself, so the specters did a lot of the heavy lifting. The deck mutated a few times, being dragon tribal for a while, then OG Bolas heading a Bolas tribal deck, before The Ravager being printed revolutionized the deck. It needs a rebuild, but is likely to be more reanimator-focused this time around.

The Bolas vs Ajani duel deck was probably my favorite product ever released. I played Bolas, my brother played Ajani, and when I resolved either Ult or Nici B, it was usually game over. Man what a Grixis mage I've turned out to be.

I love Grixis, and I love how much Crim is devoted to the best shard as well, haha. Jeleva will forever be bae...just hands down my "funnest" deck. A timmy at heart, my two fav decks are Jeleva & Kaalia, because they're essentially the same thing...just one's mardu & one's grixis. 4 cmc flying ladies with terrifying timmy attack triggers. My jeleva deck has no real wincon, but it's fine because I'm just hear to steal shit & free-cast mob rule, worst fears, ultimatum, extra turn spells, etc 😁

The first commander deck I built when I first got introduced to magic was a Grixis deck led by Mairsil, the Pretender. At first it was really budget being made with mostly pieces of the wizards precon it came in but has since become one of the more powerful decks in my playgroup. My Grixis journey started with Nekusar and has evolved into a "Nikki B Annoying" deck. It is fun to play the foil sometimes and the Nicol Bolas with rogues theme fits perfectly. Mycosynth Lattice combos, 10ing someone with Sorin Markov, Notion Thief, Tergrid, Etali and the list goes on. Wouldn't play all the time but sometimes the pod needs a baddie so a hero(s) can emerge and an epic tale can be told.

Heh, my first EDH Control deck was a deck much like the Thraximunder one mentioned here, but with Garza Zol at the helm. Expensive, but good at controlling the board and then haste to be coming down and smiting people. What I really love about Grixis is how varied the strategies are. Jeleva is strongly different from Nekusaar and so on for Marchesa, Bolas, Mairsil. etc. So many good value commanders, but built in ways that they don't often go in each other's decks.

I put Yawgmoth's Will, Ashiok, Dream Render, and Oubliette in every Grixis commander deck. Rakdos Charm is probably my favorite as its very versatile at instant speed either exiling a graveyard completely, destroying an artifact or each creature dealing 1 damage to its controller. Rakdos Charm has come in clutch so many times. I run it in any deck that can. I have multiple Grixis commander decks because Grixis has so many different builds allowing it to be almost any style of deck. We need an elemental blast for green spells like Hyrdoblast or Red Elemental Blast.

It's not merely the plentiful +1/+1 counters she bestows upon her minions, Marchesa can grant your Vampires virtual immortality. Nicol Bolas the ravager is my favorite commander, make them all discard, and make them all sacrifice creatures until they are all out of resources, don't let them draw additional cards, and play waste not, and you got the perfect group hug deck. my opponents hug each other for emotional support because they have no creatures or cards.

Then when the Ravager came out I immediately switched to him and now the deck is like a grixis artifact deck with a super friends subtheme using all the Bolas walkers and a few tezzerets and a liliana (for use with lilianas triumph)

Dropping in a year later to say that before Paradox Engine was banned in Commander, I had an indefinite involving that and a few wizards, and Inalla. Cruel ultimatum is grixis. It doesnt do well against established boards but it basically makes 1 player a non the threat for several turns without outright killing them. Grixis isnt about winning, its about dominating. And now I want to find a way to cast infinite cruel ultimatums and make that my commander win con.

Cruel Ultimatum is a card people underestimate because it's single target, but I play an Anhelo deck. When I drop an ultimatum, I'm copying it 2 or 3 times and just decimating people. It's actually disgusting. And god forbid I hit it with Arcane Bombardment and just start casting it again on every person's turn for free + whatever else I'm doing.

I have a single deck designed around a resource denial power house deck. That runs many of these. Xander marchesa covetus and some other gnsrly bits. Designed arounf alot of copy and theft. Mill discard or take ping dmg. Marchesa as the commander and stuff like deadeye navigator and other good wide soread reanimators and things to generate counters for marchesa on stuff. Goblin rogue fae tribal generally. But also some non human and party mechanics. 3rds based template as its being built and designed for further tuning to the owners selection. Doing 2 versions. 33 lands 33 creatures 33 non land non creature. 11 goblins. 11 "fae" 11 other. But mostly within rogues as well but not entirely wizards clerics warriors and some other stuff. Like 5 vamps. 11 direct hard counterspells. Goblin side has infinite ping dmg red mana and goblin tokens. Pashalik mons hobgoblin bandit grenzo krenko skirk prospector. Goblin recruiter and 2 ither govlin tutors. Demonic tutor and the creature version. Pyschic intrusion. Xander. Some other goodies like carrior feeder and sengir. The cyber controller. 7 of the artifacts are mana ramp or fixers in some way. Like 11 total minimum draw increasers including infinite draw combos. Fae and goblin token generators for blockers and swarm and early game stuff plus generic buffers and such.

Gwendlyn Di Corci will always be my favorite. She's got a thicc booty to ward off aggro and interacts fun with untap shenanigans (minamo land makes her give a hymn to tourach every turn). She's lost a lot of power with the loss of paradox engine, but she will always be my favorite. I still run her in a dedicated control deck. I also still run a crosis deck too. Newer commanders are interesting but I tend to enjoy my childhood favorites. Recently I've been trying to make Parnesse work. Honestly a real challenge.

Nekusar The Mindrazer would be my favorite Grixis card
@JohnnyYeTaecanUktena2 жыл бұрын
Did you say Lord Crim, the Crimmer? that's what i heard. That reminds me i need to make more grixis decks thats not just wheels with either Lord of Tresserhorn or Nekusar and yes wheel Tresserhorn sounds troll and it is when they are taking 14 damage per summoning or bouncing your commander but gets you less targeted than simply having a Nekusar
@JohnnyYeTaecanUktena2 жыл бұрын
I should also note my wheel deck that i named The Deck of Time can accidently kill the driver so embrace the chaos and see who comes out on top and play a Timeshifter while you have glacial chasm out and low on life due to the land because you did not want your own spells to burn you down fast as you are wheeling and stuff like Phyrexian Tyranny don't care who controls it as it burns everyone equally unless they pay the 2 per card draw so thats 14 damage unless they pay 14 mana when you wheel. Spiteful visions and fevered visions are also great in the deck as spiteful visions affects everyone equally and you draw a card or the two as the extra one from visions per turn before you have to put it on the bottom due to puzzle box and draw a new hand taking so much damage. Though Fevered visions is not that great as it is not per card draw it is if they have 4 or more cards in hand so basically a bit worse version of Black vise that also makes them draw at their end step however it is good in the fact that it effects all of your opponents not just a single player and Black vise deals damage per card in in their hand minus 4 so it has no cap. Gustha's Scepter is also in the deck because sometimes you just want to keep a certain card so you exile it face down under the scepter and best part is if the scepter leaves play or you lose control of it all of the cards exiled with it goes to the grave so you can just do something like Timetwister and get them back into your deck. Since it is a wheel deck it is great to have a hidden hand that they can not tamper with unless they blow up the artifact, also it even says as long as the card is exiled you your self can look at it anytime even though it is exiled face down so it is also great for hiding your combo and even better if you have something to untap your scepter and my uncle is never going to let me forget animating my scepter with animate artifact with a intruder alarm out then suddenly i Niv-mizzet curiosity from nowhere by playing my commander to untap the scepter lol Put a Krenko with thornbite staff or any creature type of infinite sac engine in the deck and suddenly with the scepter and intruder alarm you don't have to worry about your puzzle box wheeling your hand away or them getting rid of your hand so you basically gotten rid of most of the downsides of the wheel deck. But that's not how i like to play i like to risk it all in the gamble of either my deck kills me or i kill them first or they kill me first however if i am playing more spikey i will definitely switch to that combo as the only use it has is untapping my scepter meaning they don't know what i am setting up unless they mindslaver me as for all they know i have 3 mana open and i might have a opposition agent under the scepter Ignore my dumping fast mana artifacts turn 1 then wheel of fortune to refill my hand which may or may not have another fast mana artifact or turn 1 Nekusar you try to counter spell then i Force of Will....i uh made the deck mean as it is Wheel.deck literally all of the Timetwister effects 21 cards including Timetwister granted not the ones in the other two colors or the banned one sway of the stars which would make a Nekusar deck too strong. But i want ancestral recall unbanned as come on man give me blue lightening bolt lol My uncle looked at me and said "Even if Nekusar is not the commander some jank zombie is it is one of the meanest Nekusar decks i have ever seen you just need a cyclonic rift to send their stuff back to their hands then wheel" I should actually note that if playing the deck seriously the actual win strategy is different depending on if you are playing Lord of Tresserhorn (i call him tesserhorn as pet names annoys people) or Nekusar, the Mindrazer as the commander since Nekusar by default is far stronger as Lord of Tresserhorn is a 10/4 4 cmc grixis legendary that says "When Lord of Tresserhorn enters the battlefield, you lose 2 life, you sacrifice two creatures, and target opponent draws two cards. Tap a black mana: Regenerate Lord of Tresserhorn." like you can just straight up play him without any other creature to force your opponent to draw cards as that ETB will trigger even if he somehow is not on the field with two creatures or if somehow he gets put into your hand by the end of it thus not going to the grave or back to the command zone. So you can tell by having stuff like Spiteful visions out and Phryrexian Tyranny it is a targeted hate card when you play it as suddenly you are dealing like 14 damage for 4 mana so it basically becomes lightening bolt on crack that happens to be in your command zone
