I’ve been on Dragon Shield sleeves, Petrols only for both mtg and yugioh, and now own thousands of both sizes. For inners KMC perfect fits always! But for my boxes and binders, I’ve been a huge fan of Ultimate Guard, I love the texture and _smell_ of the xenoskin covers, the zipfolios and boulders are my favorites, but I own arkhives, superhives, sidewinders and flip n trays.
@abouc

Professor, can you elaborate on what makes side-loader inner sleeves so bad, or potentially damaging? A quick tutorial on how to get (and keep) all the air out when using top loaders would also be helpful. No matter what I do, they keep getting "puffy" over time.
@Vildhjuggah
@Vildhjuggah 2 жыл бұрын
I know this is an old thread but the professor says sideloader can damage your cards, not only that they wont protect them as well as toploaders. Actually causing damage on their own and not protecting as well as toploaders are two different things. (I say while I scroll through trying to find a proper answer because I'm double sleeving my new deck and I've put side loaders on and am waiting for the rest of the cards to come in the mail before I do the second layer)
@resentfulshrimp8044
@resentfulshrimp8044 8 ай бұрын
I think the main thing with side loaders for me personally is the surface area that dirt and stuff can get in is a lot bigger. You have a bigger slit that stuff can seep into.

As someone who has played the big 4 tcgs and a myriad of others, maybe give Pokemon a go? Out of all the TCGs Ive played (again quite a few) its the one I end up going back to. Sure I might pick up a Magic deck, play YuGiOh on GBA, or avoid Hearth stone at all costs, but Pokemon is just the TCG that does it for me.

@@louishuang2153 that's like saying video games or cartoons are for kids. Its a different game with a slightly more kid friendly theme (on the surface of course it has its own adult themes and concepts but aren't as represented in the TCG). That doesnt mean it doesn't have its own complexities and skill. Like I said, its my personal favorite TCG. I think that standard is the best format so your mileage may vary. There is a lot I prefer about Pokemon to Magic. And vice versa. Its what I enjoy. Hell, the good professor enjoys the Pokemon TCG as well. Before passing judgement, give it a to.

Thank you for addressing the tightness of the boulder deck box. I only used Dragon Shield matte outer sleeves. Next time I need inners, I'm going to see if my LGS carries KMC. Maybe this is part of the equation I'm missing. I've had to store decks loose in an Ultimate Guard Arkhive because I didn't want to damage any of my cards.

After double-sleeving my second commander deck and putting it in my new Gamegenic Stronghold deckbox (thank you so much for recommending it, its great) I wanted to leave a few words: A few years ago I struggled with huge changes in my life and in a time of despair I decided to return to an old hobby of mine that I always hold dear through it all. But when I looked at MtG in 2016 I felt overwhelmed by the variety of products and formats and I was unsure which card sleeves and what not to buy. My city had no LGS at this time and I became unsure if I should even pick up Magic again. Thanks to your channel I felt well informed and infected with your contagious passion for a game I also love. I expanded my collection a bit and two years later we had a new LGS in town which I wasnt afraid of visiting for a few games and events. Magic became a very fun part of my life again and I think I wouldnt have made this decision without your content. Thank you very much for putting so much emphasis on the part "Magic THE GATHERING", since thats the part of this game I love most. Thank you. Greetings from germany

I don't play Magic the Gathering, but I play the miniatures game Heroclix that uses standard size cards paired with the miniature. Awhile back I found your videos reviewing deck boxes and since then I have grown fond of all your review videos, even for MTG and other TCGs and their products. My Heroclix miniatures' cards are all sleeved in Dragon Shield Classic Clears, sets are stored in Ultimate Guard Boulders inside a Arkhive and I take the teams I picked out to the LGS in GameGenic deck boxes. My full set collections (Mainly the Batman/Xmen/Justice League Animated Series) are in UG Zip-folios so I can sit and read the "flavor text" of my favorite Heroes/Villians from comics on slow nights. Just wanted to let you know your reach spans TCGs and to thank you for the videos, looking forward to the future ones!

Just to add on the inner sleeves. I have had tightness issues with KMC a few years ago. Tried to contact KMC, they didn't even respond. I swapped to Dragon Shields and everything went well until about a month ago when I had several packs too tight. I contacted Dragon Shield, they replied within a week, asked for visual proof, a receipt, etc, and gave me a full refund through Paypal. So in terms of Customer Support Dragon Shield has an A+. Since my refund, I bought 4 more packs Dragon Shield inners from a different batch. 1 pack had sleeves that were too loose, 1 pack had sleeves that were too tight, the other 2 were "just" about right with a few sleeves mixed in between that were either too loose or too tight. So I think Dragon Shield, perhaps due to Covid, is having some quality control issues. I did not contact them for yet another refund, instead I have moved back to KMC for a bit until I know the LGS has a 100% new batch. I did let my LGS know about the issues as well. I know I should likely boycot KMC due to their poor customer service, but, the brand has always been great until I ran into issues once, so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt for now.

I suggest if you have a lot of cards you want to transport regularly, putting all of your deck boxes in a pelican case. Not the cheapest option but it keeps your investment safe and locked. I've gone on rustic camping trips with my magic cards and it's nice to know that their in a weather sealed container. If you have some time, you can custom cut foam for the case to suit your needs.

Definitely spend some time examining the shelves. I see a Bill Bryson book - he's one of my favorites and on my 'frequently re-read' list. These are travel/science books written with a very entertaining British/American blended style of humor and they're truly delightful. A Walk in the Woods is the classic, but Life and Times of Thunderbolt Kid makes a great gift for a boomer (or midwesterner), and In A Sunburned Country is ideal for an American that knows nothing about Australia (like I was).

What I wouldn't give for a Boulder 120+... With the sealable Dragon Shield inners and their Matte outers a Commander deck is about a dozen lands short of fitting and this kills me. It's SO close. And those boxes are SO lovely...! Their ARKHIVEs are just wonderful, though. Basically what I use to keep the part of my collection in that I'll be actively rummaging through. Thanks for being such a great source for information. I found you while looking at reviews and products because on multiple places people said unless the professor has a video on them I will not even touch X product. Thank you for being a wealth of trusted information. Love the videos. I am getting back into cards from when I was a kid, for me that is yugioh. While not everything translates over to the smaller size cards, some important things do. Things I have picked up already-Dragon shields are awesome(recommended at my local game shop and I LOVE the feeling of them, fits perfectly as opposed to loose sleeves from childhood), Boulder cases(same game shop, such a great feel once again so much better than the case from when a kid). Picking up the DS slipcase and DS 18 card holders as well thanks to this video. Future pickups - Gamegenic looks great and will probably pick up some in a few months or years. I was cautious of the removable magnetic case lid until seeing the shake tests you preform. Definitely the brand I will pick for premium boxes with removable and compact layouts. Inked mats - heard good things before and ability to get a mat made in style of the original yugioh foldable gamemat with small changes to fit modern game. What I really wish is for dragon shield sealing perfect fits sized for japanese sized cards. From your videos they seem beautiful and simple to use.

Always use side loading inners, never had an issue. Top loaders end up sliding off when you go to sleeve especially with new putter sleeves

You're using the wrong outers if the inner toploading sleeve comes off.

Hi Prof. Just wanted to say, I love your music pick! Jazz (at least that's what I think it is :P) has a way with the holidays and it really gets me in the spirit :)! Awesome video, I have some new ideas for a spattering of my friends. Thank you!

For the Dragon shield perfect fit resealable, I personally strongly recommend the CLEAR over the smoke ones. I bought 3 or 4 clear, never had any problems, bought 2 smoke at different times from different sellers/LGS, both the smokes had a factory default (sleeves cut too short and the seal part doesn't go all the way in unless you force on the cards).

A lot of the supplies I use is due to your videos. Satin Towers, Gamegenic Dungeon, Dragon Shield Sealable Perfect Fits...

Crazy how GameGenic basically came out of nowhere with top tier products. I'd even say the WatchTower is better than the Flip N Tray, and I love the Flip N Tray.

Love all your content! Your channel is the perfect source for me in everything that has to do with magich the gathering. When I first started playing table-magic and Mtg Arena, Tolarian Community College helped me out a lot. Keep up the excellent work!

I've been using exclusively Dragon shield sleeves since you first suggested them, and I have several decks in the Ultra Pro towers. Nice to feel validated about my trends!

Hey Prof just wanted to express my gratitude for all your hard work. I recently used your review series to figure out what portfolio to order for my boyfriend for Christmas. I would've been lost without you and I'm sure I would not have ended up with as quality a product had I simply gone looking myself without the help of your videos

My gamegenic dungeon holds my jump start “cube” (sleeved in dragon shield mattes and packed in cubamajigs) and dice in one side and 5 commander decks on the other perfectly. Thank you for your product reviews so I knew about these products.
