Ngl it’s kinda funny how a lot of people say after every tournament that croatias squad is weaker with no real reason. I’ve watched a lot of Croatia and to say that they’re weaker than they were in the 2022 wouldn’t make sense. Their defense as a whole has improved and so have the attacking options. The only part of the team you could say is weaker is the midfield cuz they’re all older but they’re still all worldclass players.

I agree Croatia have a strong squad but I don’t think they are as good as they have been. Modric Brozovic Peresic and a few others aren’t the players they once were.

@SouthamptonCentral you don't actually watch Modrić play, you just read the media bullsheit. He is in his full prime, still. Getting another contract. You don't get a contract with Madrid because of old glory. You must earn it game by game. It's the biggest level in football, there is no higher one. But what you don't realize as an average football fan with zero ball knowledge is that Modrić got less minutes not because he can't play 90 or he somehow dropped his shape (😅😅😅) but because Madrid must find a way to win the trophies with out him, because he is retiring in year or two. But they can't bro. Every single big game Madrid was losing until they sub Kroos for Modrić. Then Modrić makes game more faster and risky and stuff happens, and especially in the defence part, they are 2 times more solid and have more ball control then with Kroos. And Perišić is back after horrible injury, I told you he just scored the most beautiful goal of his life. Jeez.

Yes I’m aware Peresic has been back for one game, that doesn’t make much difference. He still hasn’t played consistently for a while and is reaching the age where an injury like that can have a big impact even once he has recovered. As for Modric, if he was still at the top of his game, I don’t see why’s Real wouldn’t play him more often. The guy is old for a footballer and can’t cover a much distance as he used to. He’s still a top player, but certainly not near his prime. And yes, I haven’t been watching La Liga regularly but stats can tell you a lot and obviously he isn’t going to be as good at the age of 38. The learning how to win trophies without him stuff is nonsense because If you’ve got an amazing player with high fitness levels in his prime who’s retiring soon, you start him while you can. Modric isn’t that unfortunately. Still a great player but perhaps not the one he once was. He’s not getting another contract which will see him play every game like he used to but instead to be on and off the bench as an intelligent player and an experienced leader.

​@@SouthamptonCentraltrue. But we're talking about almost 35 yrs span that Italy hasn't managed to beat Croatia. A lot of players and teams changed during that period. My guess would be Spain 1st but not with 3 victories, Albania will put up a good fight and might snatch a goalless draw against Italy and between Italy and Croatia at 2nd place, it will be decided if one of them manages to stay unbeaten by Spain. I'd give 60% chance to Croatia and 40% to Italy. Btw, you said Perišić did not have many minutes but didn't point out that it was because of heavy injury (acl). He's back after injury, the questions is for how many minutes is he ready (last match he played 90 mins)

Ronald Koeman is not really a good coach and some key players like Depay and F. De Jong will not have form coming into the tournament due to coming back from injury. Holland were pretty poor against Germany in a recent friendly creating virtually no real chances. This Dutch side really misses a player like Robben, Sneijder, or Van Persie, without players of that quality I don't think they can surprise by getting to the last four or further.

Modric is not getting less minutes in Madrid because he is old or something. He casually plays 90 minutes when needed. The thing is, Modric is retiring in a two years, and Real Madrid must find a way to win trophies without him. But sure they cannot. He had to come in to sub for Kroos many, many crucial games in crucial moments to save the day. All of them as a matter of fact.

I think if Real had a crucial player for only the next two years they’d be using him more. As players get older the number of games they can play will decrease. Modric definitely doesn’t cover as much distance as he used to although he is still a great player.

If you think about it logically, how most groups will likely end it up is pretty straight forward. France will beat everyone, Netherlands will lose to France but beat the others, etc. I think your predictions on the knock-out stages will be far more interesting. Of the predictions of the smaller teams, I think most outsiders know only enough to realise that events can literally go any way. Group E for example, Belgium finishing top seems certain, how the other three will finish is literally anyone's guess. I think it could depend on who has a better day, Romania or Ukraine, and so on, quality wise there isn't a massive difference.

For me the Netherlands are a surprise team, not many are expecting them to reach the semis. There could be other surprises like Hungary or Austria but I don’t think they have as good of a chance as the teams they are up against. I’m simply picking the teams that I think are most likely to win.

Italy weak in defense? Bastoni, Calafiori, Buongiorno, Di Marco, Darmian, Mancini…but I get it, is simple if you don’t play in Madrid or City, you are not good enough. No you can't. Noone can. Euro is a lot more unpredictable than WC, and even there we get lots of surprises in the group stage. If you can do that, you could take all your familys' money, take a loan on their houses, place your bets and become rich. More likely is that you would end up broke, though, so please don't do that, people... How many of the past Euro winners could you have predicted correctly?
