Nice video! I kinda feel sorry about your struggles in adjusting to the culture. Riding jeeps, waking up early for class, and learning about Filipino/Davaoeño slang, meme culture and curse words is understandably a LOT to process. But I appreciate that despite of it all, you still pushed onwards. I’m actually taking up my Masters Degree in Ateneo de Davao University so I guess we’re schoolmates (yehey!). Kaway-kaway kapwa atenista! 😁

'Bisaya/Cebuano' is actually a language, a dialect is a regional version of a language. Like Davao Cebuano, or Surigao Cebuano or Bohol Cebuano, etc.

If you visit cities in Mindanao like Ozamis Tagum Gensan Butuan etc you will know that Bisaya is just the same anywhere. The dialect stuff is only on paper.

glad this came in my recommendations. i'm currently studying as shs student in addu and i also grew up in a foreign country, uae. idk bisaya and i'm kinda nervous with next school year's face-to-face classes that i might feel left out but so far, in my online learning right now, my classmates are vv friendly. i hope to learn and understand bisaya more in the future to avoid the language barriers knowing that i really want to study in ateneo davao. obf, atenean! thanks for this video, ate 💙

Nigawas ni sa akong yt recommended vids.. ambot ngano. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Anyway, sad lang kasi based on my travels in US, nindot gyod ilahang educational system. Labi na sa college! Though, dili pod ko product sa educ system nila. Like you, atenista pod ko. Mas free nga ang educ sa states - free in a sense na ikaw mismo mopili sa imong direction. which I envy so much. Ang down side lang sa states na educ sys is katong loans. Ipiton jod ka even after nigraduate naka. PE sucks tbh, labi na pag late naka makatulog. Pero, isipin mo nalang -- forced work out / cardio siya.. Which I miss (thinking in retrospect!). Yawaa noh? Ayaw lag kaguol sa imong experiences as a langyaw student. Kaya nimo na, hunahunaa lang ngano ka ni-enter sa sugod. btw, tell me if you had a hard time understanding, will edit and translate if needed. i figured, since you mentioned that you spent a bit of your childhood in tagumtagumpay (he he he), you could use a bit of bisaya practice. :P #lifeishere ayo2. - ogs

What was it like when people would speak to you and you’d have to be like “sorry I can’t speak ___” like would they look at you weirdly? Was it easy or hard to make friends with them bc how often are there international students in the Philippines? And omg the education system is hard, typical of an Asian country :(
@euneece3 жыл бұрын
1. thankfully, whenever i told people that i wasn't that fluent in bisaya, they were very kind and took an effort in speaking English with me, which i was very grateful for. 2. it was fairly easy to make friends since there were also many people there who were new to Ateneo. i don't really "look" like an international student since i'm full Filipino but people were still very kind to me nonetheless. 3. academically, it was difficult but not impossible

Was it hard to apply? I’m a U.S. citizen but both of my parents were both born and raised in the Philippines. I’m having a hard time applying because they need all my forms.😭
@euneece4 жыл бұрын
it was definitely not an easy process lol but i am a dual citizen since i was born in the philippines so that made it less of a hassle. i guess the process depends on which university you're planning to apply to as well. most of the time, the university's registrar should be willing to give you a hand so don't hesitate to message or contact them.

@euneece4 жыл бұрын
hey! so, honestly, the decision is all up to you. but i will tell you a couple of things. it is going to be difficult, especially if you can't speak fluently. however, if you can understand, then you'll be fine. while it is definitely difficult and it is going to be a challenge, you'll meet so many new people and go through experiences that your friends in the states would never imagine going through themselves, in a good way. you'll honestly turn into a new person and maybe it's all up to perspective, but for me personally, it was a nice change. if you're up for the challenge, then go for it! if you want to do something different with your life and set yourself aside from all your friends and have unique experiences, this is your chance! good luck!

Hey ! Thanks for the video, really enjoyed it. I had a quick question: My roots are from India (currently a resident of Canada) and was wondering if it would be a good decision to encourage my younger sister to apply at National Institute of Physics in Philippines. Do they have international students ? Would it be hard for her to make friends because of the language barrier ? Is the mode of communication English ? Sorry for the bombardment
