I hope that everyone looking for a new job finds one more easily this year 💪🏼🤓

I'm a later in life SENG student at a Canadian University, and finding the search for internships to be really demoralizing and confidence-killing, but it's nice to hear that the struggle is universal to all skill/experience levels. Helps me to remind myself that it's not 100% on me.
@maria_sitkovets_tech4 күн бұрын
Yeah it's definitely a very widespread issue right now. The economy is so messed up and companies aren't hiring much and are really picky when they are. Keep working hard and practicing and it'll come in useful once the time is right :) you can also find smaller companies to do internships at (like if you have any local startups)

I have 9 years of experience and got laid off last year. Have been Leetcoding and memorizing the textbook definitions of concepts from HTML tags to System Design for the last few months, no luck. Dev interviews are now a full on Squid Game, I'm considering moving away from the industry
@maria_sitkovets_tech11 күн бұрын
I agree with you that it's like Squid Game right now and I wish you the best of luck. It may not be a bad move if you have other passions and want to explore those too. I don't even know how long this field will be around.

sad that I can relate to you right now on the “everyone around you got made redundant and teams keep restructuring” front 😅. Might need this advice in a few months when I hit your breaking point

Can you make a few video on 1.salary negotiations and what you did , said 2. A video on the courses and learning practices problems you did from infrastructure, system design , Leetcode 3. What project did you or do you have on your portfolio 4. Interview prep for technical and behavioral 5. What jobs did you apply for and why like dev ops, front end, full stack, back end, Thank you I’m going into
@maria_sitkovets_tech10 күн бұрын
Yeah! The next video I'm posting is basically all of those combined in one video so stay tuned for next week :) I just filmed it and will edit it this weekend. Since I've been working for a few years, I don't include projects on my resume anymore but I do have videos from when I was doing internship and new grad interviews and a video where I roasted my past resumes so you can check those out for more information about what projects I had. And for looking for a new job this time, I mostly applied for fullstack, backend, and infrastructure (production engineering/site reliability) jobs

Amazing video! I'm a new grad trying to find a job. What's your suggestion on how to succeed?
@maria_sitkovets_tech11 күн бұрын
thank you! I'll have a bunch of advice for you in my next video but I also recommend watching some of my old interview videos too. I would suggest that you: 1. don't be so hard on yourself (because it's a tough market and you're still early in your career) 2. don't wait for some recruiter or company to pick you out of thousands of applicants, put yourself out there and message recruiters and hiring managers yourself 3. go to events and meet people! that's how I met 2 people who work at my current company and I was able to get more information from them about what it's like working there. You never know who you might meet at an event 4. delete social media and grind really hard XD

2:30 Which System Design course did you take, would you recommend?
@maria_sitkovets_tech12 күн бұрын
Oh I did this one! www.educative.io/courses/grokking-the-system-design-interview. It's annoying because this website changed their payment method to be subscription based instead of being able to buy a single course. So I did like 5 other courses on their website after buying the 1 year subscription. It's unfortunately hard nowadays to get good content for free (unless you share passwords/accounts with your friends -- which I highly recommend to save money). I also took notes from it and sent that notes page to my friends too. You can also use AI like chatgpt to help explain system design concepts

Lucky you. 60 applications, 1 interview 😢
@maria_sitkovets_tech9 күн бұрын
Yeah I'm very lucky but like I explained in the video, many of these interviews were for smaller startups who reached out to me and not FAANG companies that I cold applied to. Keep going and applying and networking! I believe in you. It's really a numbers game with interviewing and it's especially hard right now so you're not alone in this
@alex-cu1tz9 күн бұрын
@maria_sitkovets_tech yes, it's very hard, at that moment also in Europe (I live there). I can't believe that just 3 years ago, with just 30 applications I got 5 interview and 3 of them where from companies in the US

It's easier to get a job as a woman, because team leads search for "diversity"
@johnrgrillot99019 күн бұрын
Please do not take advice from this person !! A person will never be successful in this field using this approach. Sure some employers are looking for the "unicorn candidate" that's the smart thing to do. Stop looking for the "unicorn" job. When you get a job work your butt off, stay in the grunt positions, pay your dues and if you are talented, you will be rewarded.
