We had a cottage on Duck Lake Peninsula when I grew up....great memories. Now, I'm 63. After several moves over the years, my husband and I purchased a condo downtown. We still live in Ada, MI but I just can't let go of Traverse City. Great times.

Interlochen is a great place. I was in East Grand Rapids for a while. Glad to hear you are back in the city. What’s your favorite thing to do up here?

@@samsguidetotraversecity3457 When I was younger it was being on the water. Be it skiing, tubing, sailing etc. Now, I really enjoy the wine tasting, concerts, and the restaurants. My husband loves the fishing. There are things that have not changed, such as J&S Hamburgers, Street Sale, Cherry Festival, Fireworks, Brady's Bar, Murdocks Fudge, Golden Shoes, Captains Quarter, etc. I love the traditional as well as the new activities. Although I"m 63 years old, I still love a nice day on Clinch Park Beach, especially in August when the water is warm. We lived a bit in Colorado and all my friends can't believe how clear the bay water is. Gorgeous! I even remember the year that Gerald Ford was in the parade, and when Chums Corners was one store. Gee, I'm old. lol lol lol

cathryn clark those are great memories. I love J&S, my office is right next door. I love the Interlochen Concerts. We saw Lyle Lovett a few years ago. I’m glad you are still enjoying this beautiful area.

Great video. You touched on a lot of things I wanted to know about the area. I'm going to be moving there very soon.

Great video Sam! I'm a city guy as well, but now with a young family, we're planning to move to TC in 2022 for all the reasons you described! Would love to hear more about where you recommend living downtown. :)

Hey Chris, thanks for commenting. I would love to help you and your family relocate here. I’m pretty fond of all of downtown for different reasons. Each location has its own strengths. Hard to go wrong downtown in my opinion

I love Traverse City. I've been visiting it every year for as long as I can remember. I dream of moving there but the hard part is jobs. As a machinist, to live in Traverse, I'd have to take at least a 25k a year pay cut to be an area that seems to be as expensive as where I live now. Perhaps I have to look into a new career?

Yeah man. It’s not the cheapest place to live that’s for sure. I really appreciate you watching the video and leaving a comment

hey there, you mentioned you moved three times in the same area, is there like a side of town you would recommend? I would love to have that kind of balance where you're close to nature but also not far from downtown? thanks

People in TC, like most places have their favorite locations. People who live on the peninsula think it’s the best spot on the plant. It is beautiful for sure. For me, I’ve always been an Eastside TC guy. I just like it over here. But there isn’t a place in TC you can go wrong in my mind.

Drove through there one evening back in 95' and gasped at how beautiful that town is. I remember beautiful neon lights here and there and the sky and water were amazing and my impression was that is was a safe family town. I've never lost memory of the image that it instilled in my mind and thought to myself one day I'll come to visit this place. I've not heard one thing negative about this place while doing a google search as for the rest of Michigan well.......spotty. Oh Caseville/ Port Austin are pretty cool as well as Oscoda though a little run down.

Traverse city is the place to be. Especially in the summer. Fresh water, great food, hiking, and more.

I was born in Detroit moved to TC at 4 years old (1972) and lived there until I graduated from high school (1986). We vacation there every few years. Yes TC has changed allot but not at all to the projections TC has published. I did a report in High School were Grand Traverse County received greater tax revenue for infrastructure because by 2000 the county was going to have a population of over 100k. As of 2023 (nearly 25 years later), the county has yet to hit 100k. There also is almost no diversity in TC. It also is no longer the Cherry capital, I worked on 3 cherry orchards that no longer exist. I also understand that TCAPs enrollment has dropped consistently year after year since the 2nd HS/MS were built. Probably just a matter of time before the rising crime in Grand Rapids hits TC. The housing market in TC were plummet some day
@samsguidetotraversecity3457 Жыл бұрын
The downtown was an industrial park when you lived here. There was a waste water plant on the Bay in downtown. Multiple auto body shops existed where now 4 story buildings full of offices exist. The diversity in TC is still lacking but it is Clearly more diverse than when I moved here in 1991. We have added a world famous equestrian show, a film festival, condos all over the downtown area. It has changed a great deal and the lack of housing makes a market crash here rather hard to believe. More and more people are wanting to be here. You may not like it, and that’s ok, but your observations are just simply wrong.

Us folks living down south go to Traverse City to be reminded of what heaven must be like! I suppose some people living in Traverse City go down south and come to the realization heaven ISN'T down HERE.

@@themittenrealestategroup12 Naples, FL comes to mind. Most exciting thing to do there from January through April is to watch the Weather Channel on TV -- zeroing in on the blizzard conditions pelting Traverse City. Then shutting the TV off and go outside in your t-shirt, shorts and sandals to go play 9 holes.

@@ValuableChristianMessages Yup. We get down to Florida in the winter because it gets a little long here. But summer in Florida is a no for me.
