Since the day I first played it, assassin's Creed Brotherhood has been my favourite game in the franchise, and my favourite game of all time. now, more than ten years later, let's go back and revisit it to see if it stands the test of time, or if I am letting nostalgia blind me.

probably ac 2 over ac brotherhood for two reasons. and those are that it had the better story and most importantly the entire game was designed around the parkour. there is no game that matches the parkour freedom and comlexity when it comes to player involvment and map design was made with player discretion in mind. if you wanted to climb straight up a buiding you could, if you wanted to use the tools available to get the best and fastest route possible up buildings you could do that. every game after ac revelations had a too automated parkour systems even unity in my opinion. and as always great and thoughtful video

AC. Full stop. The first one, I’m not an old person. In fact, I was four when it came out. I first got exposed to AC with Black Flag, it came free with the XBox One and I was hooked. Since then I’ve played a lot of the games not all to completion and of the RPG ones, only Origins. In fact AC has to have been one of my more recent ones. It’s something about what you do to prepare for each assassination that is so tantalizing to me. I definitely would’ve loved to see some more weapons, maybe a more fluid parkour, or even the recruiting and sending on missions as well as the buying property in the Ezio Trilogy. But, I keep coming back to the original. Over and over again.

"Compromise. That is what everyone has insisted upon. And so I have learned it. But differently than most, I think…" Call me as big a fool as Connor, but I always appreciated his hopeful naivete. Despite getting absolutely screwed by his cause and the fledgling country he helped create, he chose a hopeful outlook and lived a good life. Connor didn't have a rich uncle, just a cantankerous old man in a failed homestead, but he made something of it. Ezio's life is tragic, but he had so many genuine advantages afforded to him that Connor didn't have. Connor is tenacity and perseverance incarnate, and that's why I fell in love with AC3.

I feel the same about AC4 my father bought the game and tried it out and played it for a few minutes and didn't like it, so he handed the controller to me, and I was completely enthralled in the time period, and I felt like I was Edward Kenway, I saw him change from a reckless greedy pirate into an assassin who was much wiser and experienced. At the end of the game when I finally killed Torres and he said Edward had taken far greater losses and not having no friends and future, I realized that all the people Edward was with and fought for were either dead, imprisoned, or insane. Plus, that ending scene with all of them at the table and the parting glass started playing I sobbed. For me Edward Kenway is the Arthur Morgan of assassin's creed.

I think there is a generational element to why we adore these games so much as well as the way we adore them. There are all different kinds of AC fans of course but I think the most dedicated, but more importantly, the most rational fans (of course not universally, there's always outliers) are AC fans who are now in their early 20s, like Spaniard himself and myself included, born around 98' early 2000s. I think the element of literally growing up with these games in our late childhood to very early teen years as regular releases gave us the opportunity to fall in love with the narrative and characters, as well as the world building and Assassin fantasy, in a way that other demographics could not. Yet because of our age now, we can be rational and understand what does and doesn't work for AC games, because we've been playing them for years. And we actually WANT to see these things work because of our investment in the series, no matter how long it's been since you played a recent AC game. There is an element to the "rose tinted lenses" yes, I can overlook the at times dogshit controls in unity because of nostalgia, but I can also overlook it and recognise the potential it HAD. Doesn't excuse the rushing or lack of effort of course. Rational AC Fan Supremacy!

I feel the same way about AC3. I remember the excitement i felt for this game like no other in the franchise and while i can acknowledge its flaws as game where it's the bugs or the poor mission constitution for some missions. I can't help but feel love for this game i remember the shocked i felt about the Haytham reveal, the excitement of exploring the frontier as Connor, him coming to terms that he has to face his father and there's no changing him despite their debacle. Connor's story and the relationships he build in his Homestead being there for him when he lost his people he sweared to protect and despited all his hardships he faced he continued to march forward for a better future. Not to mention hearing Desmond himself talking about how Connor's stubbornness to push forward inspired him in the voice messages in AC4(i think) war really heartwarming fot me to hear. Somebody that felt in love with not only the character but their motivation and struggle. I started replaying AC3 again the game itself has a lot nice mechanics that go unappreciated due to poor mission constitution. The recruits and tools Connor has give a lot room to the imagination but we have no canvases to paint with them(besides the forts which is the main reason I started a new game) In conclusion AC3 despite it's flaws will always have a special place in my heart with Mirage being a close 2nd it's crazy how after all these years theres finally a game close of outranking AC3 in terms of how much i love a game in this franchise.

I still find myself enjoying at least some aspect of each one whether it being the story or gameplay or just falling in love with the characters. I’m so far up to brotherhood and as I find myself replaying them as an adult of 27 I can honest say that these games are still to this day, Fantastic. I will continue to support Ubisoft in hope that they bring their passion back to them that they once had.

It's 2007. I am in my freshmen year of college. We have the X-Box 360 in our dorm room. My buddy Phil has shown my roommate and I the trailer for Assassin's Creed a few times over. He's obsessed. I think the trailer's awesome, but I have no real want to play it. Christmas comes around, and my mom has gotten me the game as a present. First M-rated game she ever bought me. So I play the game when I have some down time between homework. Not enough to really remember how to play between each session, but I like the vibes. I like all the little animus bits and music cues. But when I go for the third assassination, I've completely forgotten how combat works, so I ragequit and don't touch the game again until maybe summer 2008. As it's summer break, I can play through the game without any hindrances, and remember how to play consistently. I get past the third assassination, and in the following missions, I find I really like the structure of the game. Gather intel, make a plan, get the guy, get an intriguing memory corridor where the target explains why they were actually trying to HELP. They think they're the good guys. Only one of them has been outright evil so far. Game has my attention, so I play to the end. Al Mualim's betrayal was kind of a cliche, so I rolled my eyes at that, but then... he uses the Apple. Suddenly, besides the Eagle Vision mechanic, we have a science fiction element to this Third Crusades story, and I am hooked. THAT'S what brought me back for AC2. And I wound up loving AC2 more than the first. The story is great. The aesthetic is fantastic. And the music, jingles, and glyph puzzles all keep adding to this "you don't know how deep this all really goes" that kept me on the edge of my seat. The ending once again expands the science fiction element in a way that keeps me hooked. A little while after I beat AC2, I entered a GameStop and saw advertisements for an "Assassin's Creed Brotherhood". I must have completely missed the announcement, but I preordered the special edition right then and there. I wound up loving Brotherhood and almost consider it a "disc 2" to AC2, if that makes sense. I HAVE to play them together. As much as I love AC4 and Origins, I don't think any of the games after Brotherhood ever held me like those first three did. The animus elements, the sense of conspiracy, Jesper Kyd's solemn soundtrack that always seemed to suggest that their was more to learn, more to discover... That time in my life was special to me. I still enjoy the series enough that I buy every game near release day. But god, they just don't make them like they used to. I can put in those first few games and suddenly it's like I'm 18 or 19 or 20 again.

I always had the thought that ac brotherhood could have been way more than it actually ended up being. I feel like in somewhere in the middle of the story it the principle trama feels empty. And another thing that dissapointed me a little bit is that the brotherhood was supposly meant to be the center of the game but during the game it just felt like any another mechanic. I wish Ubisoft had put more emphasis on the assassin brotherhood in this game. But I think that AC Brotherhood had the best side missions in probably all the AC saga. Rome is absolutely one of my favorite cities in the saga. The Ezio's outfit is just epic. Maybe when I saw the trailer for the first time it just elevated so much my hype for the game and added to that it was the sequel of AC2. But the gameplay and the weapon gadget were immaculate. The music is gorgeous.

I would say AC Brotherhood is either my second or third favorite game in the series with AC 2 being first and AC Origins being second or third. Lots of great content, a fun combat, and a helpful assassin recruit system. Though I would have done without the 100% sync objectives and I wish Lucy's storyline played out differently plus I missed free roaming in multiple cities.

It was maybe 13 years ago and I had a slow PC and he and the others was joking how am i even playing the game, but at the time i didnt even care about that, I just enjoyed the game. I realy want to bring these days back, with these friends, but everyone of them took a different path and i havent seeing them for a very long time. The video brings me soo much old memories and for 15 years old game it looks amazing, you cant find maybe more that the half of the mechanics in the newer AC games. At that time I have played other games too, but i think this is the game that made me love the gaming. For me, Brotherhood was the story at its absolute peak, it was the crescendo of the AC franchise. I feel like everything that came after was in some ways a downgrade and started throwing out what worked in favor of expanding and shaping the series towards those who didn't appreciate the series for what it was to begin with. I was 18 when AC1 came out. I still remember the first trailer and thinking it looked like an awesome third person thief type game. I was always going to buy it. Got it day 1. Same for every other game up until valhalla, where i stopped buying day one after being burned by Odyssey. Mirage was a breath of fresh air though i will say. I find myself just running around in NG+ for the hell of it. Like the old days.

While I enjoy the video - you have some great and interesting perspectives - I have to mention there is a dichotomy between your points about historical accuracy and Machiavelli Leonardo da Vinci because the game gets a lot of things wrong: In regards to Machiavelli: 1) The database claims he was sent to Spain which is not true. 2) The database claims that “from 1500-1503, he settled in Rome” which is also incorrect. The real Machiavelli was not present in Rome for most of the time period where the game takes place - not until the election of Pope Julius II in 1503 - as he spent the majority of that time in Florence, taking care of his job in the Florentine government which kept him mostly in Florence. Though if you make a timeline of his activities (which you do, if you’re a geek), there are periods where there are no documents or letters establishing his location and he could have slipped away to Rome. Perhaps he visited Rome? ;) 3) La Volpe says to Ezio that “He was an ambassador to the Papal court and traveled as the personal guest of Cesare himself.” Machiavelli was never granted the rank of ambassador in all the years he worked for the Florentine government, he was always sent as an envoy meaning he had less power of negotiation and was paid less. He didn’t meet Cesare until 1502, two years after La Volpe made that claim. Concerning Leonardo: 1) There are no historic evidence suggesting Leonardo was in Rome at the time of the game. While he did work for Cesare, he did his work in Romagna. Though, like with Machiavelli, it is possible he would have found the time for brief visits. During the “The Da Vinci Disappearance”, which is set in 1506, Leonardo was working in Florence, and Milan. Leonardo did go to Rome in 1513, however. 07:03 So no, historically Machiavelli was not there and he was not close to the Borgias (Also, I disagree with your statement that Ezio suspected Machiavelli of treason as he is always the one defending him to La Volpe saying there is no proof). 07:14 There is no historical evidence to support that Leonardo da Vinci visited Rome in the time period the majority of the game takes place. So, like the other instalments in the series, the writers play loose with history. What I do find interesting, however, is how the game incorporates the themes of Machiavelli’s “The Prince” in its portrayal of political manoeuvring, power struggles, but also in portraying the methods used by the Borgia to maintain power and in Ezio's efforts to establish and expand the Assassin Order's influence in Rome (often through tactics that reflect the principles described in the book). It is also reflected in the narrative, for instance, Ezio failing to kill Rodrigo merely caused injury to the Borgia and Ezio paid a steep price for their vengeance, which resonates with this quote from “The Prince”: “People should either be caressed or crushed. If you do them minor damage they will get their revenge; but if you cripple them there is nothing they can do. If you need to injure someone, do it in such a way that you do not have to fear their vengeance.” My favourite game(s) is a tie between AC2 and ACB with AC2 having the best story but ACB having the better gameplay. What drags ACB’s story down is the rushed ending, the lack of consequences for Ezio’s obvious presence in Rome, the main villain being away for most of the game, and the Machiavelli traitor-plot is not very well done.

i think AC2 doesn't get enough credit for what it was. sure brotherhood improved the gameplay a lot but brotherhood existed because of that game. but imo the outfit of AC2 was way better, it looked less heavier and more sassier. and the soundtracks was over the top way more that brotherhood

As someone who somehow dosen't feel like finishing brotherhood for whatever reason I gotta ask, how can I enjoy it more? I love brotherhood'story via watching YT vids, but when I play the game myself I just somehow get bored, idk whether it's the very light heroic tone of the game but their's just something about it that turns me off, but ac2 I can still play very much so and revelations almost the same case as brotherhood.

Great video am actually playing origin right now but I just realised something the modern day Templars are dumb. Hear me out the templates have a device called the animus, which can allow a person to go back and relive their ancestors memories. Why don’t the Templars use it to know the assassins, so that they can defeat them. like I feel like that’s a messed opportunity. And Sun Zu said a quote that says to defeat your enemy, you must become your enemy.

I get pushed away from liking the Ezio trilogy and Ezio himself. Just because there are fanboys that say something like "Ezio could solo the entire franchise alone no matter what" just because it's Ezio doesn't mean he is this over powered Assassin, he is still just Ezio. Edit: since not every gets what I'm saying. Ezio is a good character but so many people just keep on talking about him. I like him but he is not my favorite Another edit: Everyone made good points, I understand that I chose the wrong words for this. So let me rephrase, Ezio is an amazing character but there is a lot of people who like Ezio and I respect their opinions. But what I was saying is I see a lot of people saying the assassin's creed franchise died after Ezio died, which is just not true. We got ac3 ac black flag ac unity and the rest which is good. So saying the assassin's creed franchise died after Ezio is not true. To conclude all I am saying is to not hate on someone else because of their opinions. Sorry for the poor choices of words before.

It’s honestly really hard to know just how powerful he was. None of the people he fought against were really great combatants. Other than Rodrigo but both of them had pieces of Eden. Ezio had to build up an army to conquer Roma, while Conner did it all on his own basically. Yeah he had “help” from the Colonial Side but they needed him more than he needed them. It’s really the difference in Engines that make it hard for me to believe he’s the very best at everything. If they put out a game where every assassin is in it and they all play differently but Ezio is just definitively the best character I’ll believe that he was the most powerful.

Oh, I know. Also, some jaggaloon said that fanboys forgot that he got more stoic as his trilogy went on. I didn't and I'm sure no one else did either. Which is why he's one of our favorites. The only one to actually question his purpose and the very nature of the war he fought in. I don't know why they made 3 games for him, I'm glad they did.
