There are some broad archetypes of assassin's creed protagonists that make up the series. I am very biased to like a specific archetype of character and I would love to explain why. So here is why my favourite assassins are often considered to be boring, and what I love so much about them.

I think Shay is underrated, and I also like him as a main character. The way I see it: he was an extremely talented Assassin, but was unappreciated and looked down on by the other Assassins. He discovers a horrible plot the Assassins are up to, and does everything he can to stop them. There's a tragedy in his story in that he has to kill his old comrades, but he has the conviction to follow through on it

I love Altaïr. I found it kind of amazing how this guy, who doesn't have that much personality, still had little humanizing moments, character development (expecially through the conversations with his master about the targets he killed), even some sort of redemption in the eyes of those who he had wronged. Altaïr's journey of following the creed to the letter, even if he didn't always agree or caused him distress, to actively questioning his beliefs, to downright making his own judgements, makes him the best character in all of AC, in my opinion. Especially in the context of a silly story about a secret war between secret organizations. Think about it: a story that puts you on the center of a conspiracy theory makes the player character question everything around them, to eventually come to the conclusion of making their own decisions on what's true and false? "Nothing is true. Everything is permitted". That's powerful stuff

My top 3 AC protagonists are, in no particular order: Connor, Bayek, and - hear me out on this one - Adéwalé. Both Connor and Adéwalé I really admire for their relentless pursuit of freedom from oppression, not just for themselves but for all people. Adéwalé especially ends up taking well to the Creed and devotes the rest of his life to it. I wish he got his own full-fledged game instead of being relegated to just a DLC. Bayek (as others have said) is a good balance between cold adept hunter and kind-hearted Everyman. Even when it’s likely the last thing he wants to do, he listens to the plights of others and tries to help them out in some way, no matter how small. A decent male role model in some ways.

i love edward more than ezio because he is more relatable to me or to a normal person playing the game, how, ezio's whole story revolves on the "revenge" and the "good vs evil" type which is kind of over saturated right now in the gaming space, but with edward its different, at the very start of the game he has a cutscene with caroline where he says something which is so common but very overlook upon a lot, he want a decent life, he wants food that doesn't make him sick, walls that holds back the wind, etc which absolutely does resonates with the basic need of every person on this planet and that win my heart, and he is charming, i prefer his ascent more than and other character and the pirate exprerience is a cherry on the cake. great video bro.

It's really odd to me how much people love Ezio considering he's one of the shallowest assassins. He's fun to watch, sure, but Edward for instance has the charm and so much more behind it, while Ezio is a lot simpler. Sure, he technically has a character arc but it's one of the sloppiest ones I've seen. Of course people are probably really nostalgic for him, but as someone who only picked the series up last year, the Ezio trilogy were the weakest games in terms of writing IMO. Revelations was the only one that kept my interest but even then it's not something to write home about outside the context of it's series.

Given the ideology and actions of an Assassin, I've always appreciated the stoic and considerate characters more than I do the charismatic and confident ones. These protagonists kill hundreds if not thousands of people. Mostly enemies sure and usually in self defense or for liberation, but the idea that someone can conduct the work of an Assassin and have a happy demeanor is a contrast that doesn't seem appropriate. Characters like Altair and Connor actively better their understanding of their work, the consequences of their actions and treat it with the seriousness that it deserves. Ezio may not have the luxury of the same writing concepts, but his quest for revenge and inherent charisma feel more like a marketing response to criticisms of Altair, than an actual characterized response to the ideology of the Assassin's Creed.

I think my top 3 protagonists would coincidentally from the Kenway games, which are: 3. Edward, 2. Shay, 1. Connor 3. Doesn't need to barring Ezio, Edward is already better for me for how realistically & down to earth his character is portrayed. He doesn't need to go through typical revenge plot like Ezio or Bayek do, the remorse and enlightenment could come when we took so much than what we need. It's like what typical people experiencing as a process of adulting. 2. He's one of two protagonist other than Altair to look beyond the Brotherhood's dogma. But while Altair wasn't brave enough with his gut to take action of the odds until it's too late, Shay was brave enough to do beyond. 1. Half of the reasons are because I quite relate myself to Connor's condition, but I think Connor's story is the most realistic of which a person would react to a given situation. I like Connor being an idealistic, naive, progressive, and leftist given he already went through a lot & his background as a minority and the oppressed ones. The condition of American Revolution & Templar that comes with it is like a wicked of status quo that become exploited by the reign of some wolves in sheep's clothing-white knights. And also I feel like (outside of the RPG games), he's the only protagonist that synergize the most with the background setting

Shay Cormac. Hear me out. He questioned the creed when they wouldn't even hear him out. He killed his best friend, his brothers and sisters, his former family, just to do what he felt was right. Just to save the common man. Another note, is he never fit in. He never took the creed completely seriously, and he never became a full-blown Templar. He had the most unique life of the protagonists. Also, his drip. I mean, both his Interim and Templar robes are the coolest outfits in all of the games. I would love a sequel with Shay, Connor, and Arno. Obviously we know Shay at the very least wouldn't die, as he grew old enough to train even his grandson. But it would be nice to see a confrontation. In my head, I'd like to think all three would be aged and mature, and would end up coming to an agreement that they all wanted the same thing.

Except he did become a full-blown Templar. He completely bought into their ideology and saw them as good guys, he never put the Templar ideology through the same critical view. Because his critical thinking is not really critical, it's emotional. All of his criticism of the Brotherhood comes from his hatred of Louis-Joseph Gaultier who was too harsh, his guilt from accidentally causing the earthquake, and Achilles' stubbornness. I would respect him more if he used his time as both an Assassin and a Templar to understand their differences but realize the danger of dogma which is present in both groups but he never saw the problems that Templars had and was happy being with them, simply because they made him feel accepted so he developed loyalty to them. Which makes him seem in the end like a useful idiot that Templars were lucky to find.

@@bloodymares Except he didn't become a full-blown Templar. And in the end, the only idiots were the members of the Colonial Brotherhood who didn't see the issues of their own ways. His views didn't stem from Chevalier, you misread that. His thinking was never meant to be deep. Connor's thoughts were purely emotional too. When you're sent on a mission that destroys an entire city, and nobody listens, it's going to be hard to stay with your allies. If you don't respect him, then you must not respect literally any other Assassuin either, as in the end, the Templars are right.

@@MacCormaic Okay, I guess I didn't express myself properly. I don't have any issues with the way he responded to the way the Assassins have treated him, it was perfectly valid. My issue with Shay is that he grew to trust the Templars very quickly and never really questioned them. Can you help me understand why you think he didn't become a full-blown Templar? Wasn't he initiated into the Order by Haytham after Monroe's death? Didn't he narrate Order's principles in the final monologue, stating that he accepted them for himself as his new Creed? I believe his final quote is "I am Shay Patrick Cormac, Templar of the Colonial... of the American rite. ... May the Father of Understanding guide us all". Seems like a full-blown Templar to me.
@MacCormaic
@MacCormaic 3 ай бұрын
@@bloodymares I mean, yeah, he was quick to trust the Templars. He was abandoned and betrayed by the Assassins, shot by his own "brother". I think Monroe clearly stated that they kind of used that to their advantage to try and manipulate him in a way. But Monroe was also kinda and so it makes sense he trusted him. It always seems like to me that even though Shay was a Templar, he was never 100% into their beliefs, as he still followed much of the Creed beliefs, such as to not kill the innocent, etc.

@@MacCormaic Okay, thanks for clarifying, now I understand what you meant. I guess I'm coming from a place of being somewhat of a "rogue" myself, where you try to fit in with several different groups only to realize all of them were full of bs and hypocrisy and choose to be blind to it. So I was hoping Shay would be that one protagonist who I could truly relate with, but sadly for me he didn't see how Templars could do more harm than the Assassins. But I guess if he also betrayed Templars, his life would be rather short.

My personal favorite is probably Edward. Others said as much, but he feels really relatable as a character. His ideals drive him, yet he achieves nothing in the pit of his egocentric delusions. He keeps digging himself down, oblivious to the consequences of his actions. When he takes notice, it's too late of course. Like so many of us, the moment he realizes all he has lost, the situation is beyond any saving, and he succumbs to despair... Yet, after a gentle push from a man he loves and respects, he manages to move forward and look to better tomorrows, lead not by greed and selfishness, but kindness and selflessness for the greater good. His redemption arc may have been oddly paced, but his character inspires me. Of course, if we're talking about my favorite that also is an Assassin by trade, I will have to go with Connor. His dedication to the hunt is legendary, his skills unmatched, and while his mind is clouded by vengeance, he does not let it get the better of him when dealing with people (homestead folks first in mind). If Rogue had been a proper title and Shay had been given a proper treatment, he probably would be up there too, for his willingness to forsake comfort and severe his bonds for what he believes in.

I think i'm most like Connor and Eivor when it comes to my personality but my favorite assassin is probably Alexios. As a protagonist, he seems like the type of friend or mentor that you want to have around. For some reason, it's also easier to make decisions with him that I normally wouldn't make with characters that seem more like me. Even with things like romance options, Alexios seems the type to be open for everything, and if you go through with it, you get a lot of hilarious dialogue and cut scenes. Whereas with Eivor, I related to him so much that I wouldn't take any steps out of the comfort zone, he was loyal to one person throughout the entirety of my time playing. I liked Alexios because I was able to play as him without overly relating with him, which gave me the opportunity to have more of a unique, and often hilarious, experience. lol

I think what you're describing is "Competence P*rn", that's generally what separates a killer from an assassin - competency. "It's the thrill of watching bright, talented people plan, banter, and work together to solve problems. It's not just "characters being good at a thing," particularly if that thing is fighting - otherwise, the term would apply to virtually all fiction - but specifically about using cleverness and hard work."

'Competence porn' is one of my favorite tropes/subgenres(?) in media. To me a character that has reached their insanely high level of competency through hard work, planning, and thinking through the outcomes of their actions will always *always* be much more interesting than a character that has powers/skills because "it was their destiny" or "they were naturally born with it."

So firstly i want to say that im young, just turned 21, but got into the series somewhat recently, about the last year or so. So i think this may be the reason why i relate to Jacob as much as i do. Jacob is far and away my favorite assassin. Like, I think so highly of him. I honestly think hes one of the most relatable assassins we've had in the series. (Granted, i havent played all the games, the RPGs the Chronicles games, Liberation, and im currently almost done with Unity) Yes, we see him not taking anything seriously, yes we see him be a jerk, yes he's immature, at least before him journey throughout the game, but he's a character who grows up to be more than that in the end. He seems to not care for the creed in the beginning, he respects the tenants, but the creed was just something he found his way into rather than devoting to it like his sister. But what people seem to overlook constantly is that Jacob is a good assassin, being able to come up with different ways to stealthily take down the people he targets. This is someone who does care about what an assassin represents. His only goal throughout the game is liberating London and the people in it. When he kills a target its not for the heck of it, he genuinely believe that itll free the oppressed. He reminds me of Connor with his naive nature. The world of Victorian London is very much different compared to Renaissance Italy or West Indies, the means to have effective change is different. Its harder for Jacob to have the change he wants with the methods he's using. Sadly, Jacob is out of his depth in London. But, he does what he can, and sets up the Rooks in London, hiding in plain sight. (Yes i understand that London during this time is very much just tuned for the game and not entirely historically accurate) Jacob believes that his assassinations do more good than bad. When he scoffs at Evie at his reprimations, he shrugs it off. The reasons we are told as to why society would have collapsed due to jacob show us that he isnt at fault, at least not completely. With the medicine, opportunists flooded the market with bad medicine and with the death of Twopenny and that aftermath is on the police. Jacob did his job and assassinated the target, but the fact that Evie had to recover the stolen plates is on the Police and their mishandling of the situation. The matter on the train is 100% on Jacob however, with a bit more forsight he could have predicted the outcome. But he does fix it later in the end from what i remember. Jacob is someone who is eager to prove himself, he wants Evie to see that he is a good assassin. He didnt get that from his father one way or the other. Him being marketed as the combat one of the two is reflective of his upbringing, instead of studying what it means to be an assassin he went out to bars and got into fights. Which leads to Pearl and then to Roth. In both these scenarios, he finally seems to have someone that finally, finally give him the validation he wants. But it's not meant to be. With the revalation that Pearl was a templar and that she was using him and the Roth and Jacob's different views on living life, he gives up. Roth gives Jacob the validation he craves, being at his most comfortable when they were together. But when it at all ends with Roth and Jacob betraying one another, this shows us who Jacob really is. He is someone who'll uphold the Creed and protect the innocents. He hesitantly kills Roth, someone who admired and in some interpretations even had romantic feelings for. Him killing Roth, is him leaving his jovial young life behind. Jacob gives up, at his lowest, he takes it out on Evie, when she brings up his father. It honestly one of my favorite scenes in the franchise tbh. Jacob's VA brought him alive. Henry breaks up the twins as they head on over to finally end Starrick. 20 years later during the JtR DLC, we see a jacob who's wiser and more thoughtful. Someone who's rebuilt the british brotherhood. He's someone whos is taking responsibility for his actions, he takes it to heart now. He feels responsible for Jack and the deaths of the assassins he's literally fathered. In the end he has to live with that guilt now, but despite all of that he still tries to help Jack, but to no avail. The last we see of Jacob is him beaten on the floor being comforted by his sister. I have a slight disagreement with your description of Jacob. Id rebuttal that Jacob isnt someone who goes through life not having a care in the world, sure he was like that early in the game. But he develops so much more. He's more akin to Ezio and Edward to me, but also alot like Connor with his Naivete and his drive to protect others. I hope this doesnt come off as me being defensive or argumentative. It was just an opportunity for me to say why i like jacob, since he's often overlooked and hated by alot of people. He's reckless and naive, he tries his best and fails over and over he gives up but gets back up in the end. He's very endearing, a bit charming and goofy. He's an idiot with a heart of gold. He later matures into a truly caring father and an overall good person, someone who'd go through hell and high water, and gladly if it meant that everyone is ok in the end. Jacob was never going to be next Ezio, Edward or even Arno. That's not how his character was meant to be. He is however very much deserving of being as well regarded as they are. I need to replay Syndicate....

I feel Evie deserves more credit as a serious character and assassin. She's after POEs (a main brotherhood goal) from the get-go. She's stealthier and more calculating. Yes, she's still young, so will enjoy what she can like her brother. But Jacob only becomes more serious with the brotherhood much later in life. Evie is always trying to help Jacob fix up as a character and assassin and fixing his mistakes like when he literally crashed the entire British economy. Young Jacob does not care about stealth or being too strategic ("Escape plan? When everyone is dead, walk out the front door.") and only really cares about creating a gang which, yes in all fairness does liberate boroughs from Templar control but via brute force and very open combat in broad daylight. Whereas Evie from the get-go is a much more serious assassin and is probably the most efficient assassin in the 1800s.

I started playing AC Unity last year around February, I really loved the game for its setting, world/map, characters and beauty. The reason why it is one of my favourite AC games is because of how much I resonate with Arno and his pursuit for happiness with Elise, I have been so enmeshed in the idea of finding your soul mate directed from Hollywood movies and tv shows, for example How I met your mother. This has lead me to years of fantasising about that day happening, and when I started playing AC Unity, I instantly grew fond of their pursuit of finding each other against the odds and completing each other. As I get older, the more I have let myself realise rather than tell myself the opposite, is that, Happiness has to come from within for it to be eternal. Having dreamt of that so long and to see it in my favourite game series of all time just lit a spark in me, like with the balloon chase, that was heartwarming. I also believe challenging what you have grown to think is true, is something that I am drawn close to. I haven’t played assassins creed aside from Unity I’m a while, I would say AC2 is my favourite but I’m going off of old memories. Same with AC1.

my favourites in no particular order are. ezio. connor. bayek. i see alot of my own personal journey and growth in these three caracters, even if they have completely different personalitys, all three of them share one thing. that is that they all grow from being selfish caracters doing things for their own satisfaction and out of revenge but during their journey realises that there is a bigger picture and that they can do more for the world and the ones they love if they put their own feelings and selfish goals aside for doing whats right instead and doing whats better for the larger whole even tho they themselfs might suffer in the short term.

Another banger, I like the archetype discussion. Very keen insight that Connor is not quite the same as Altair, I would have lumped them together in the past. I really like Arnaud, maybe it is partially due to my archetype preference...I think the hate he received. was mostly the underutilization of his persona in the middle of unity. Bayek is an interesting case where you can see him being more like Ezio but that the death of his son altered his demeanor more than Ezio's eventual character.

Honestly I just relate with Connor more than I would with Ezio. Edward is cool cause of his character development. I like Arno cause of his charismatic side though he tends to be serious too at times. Ezio is that way too it’s just well… Though I like him he just dosent resonate with me the way Connor does since this men lost his mother, father, best friend, and his entire village. I can resonate with Connor because of what made him… him! That’s just me though, I like humor don’t gimme wrong but sometimes there a time and place. Connor reminds me that life isn’t full of jokes and games, and that reality is what’s gonna linger through out our entire lives.

Despite many complaints otherwise, I've always appreciated that Connor seems very 1 dimensional out in the field. He's forced not only into European culture, but Assassin culture. Of course he's going to shut down and appear cold. He has lofty dreams and ideals, but when it's time for action they take the backseat to his deadpan ruthlessness. It creates such a stark contrast to the man we see when he reunites with his people or begins to feel at home with the homesteaders. Sure he's still a bit reserved and uncomfortable in this brand new world thrust upon him, but he's also sweet and compassionate and has that form of innocent awkward charisma. To me, that seems realistic. Connor literally shuts down aspects of who he is when fighting for a future where he can be his most genuine self, as if to protect those aspects of his personality

I guess I understand what you mean just by the title of the video. I have a mix amongst my favourite assassins, but for me it's a fact that the "boring" ones are Altair, Connor & Bayek, just because they are not as "funny" or "charismatic" as a lot of players say. But they have such depth, not only in their stories, but how those affect them in how the live, think or even act. Thanks for the video mate. Much love.

My top 3 is Altair, Ezio and Ivy. Altair is because I started with the 1st game, and still just love if there is an Altair costume inn the games even after all these years. I also love how he changes his mind inn the 1st game, bit by bit when assassinating his targets. Ezio, simply because we had most time with him through AC2, broterhoid and revelation. How he went from a kid to a assassin because of revenge. How Mario trained him inn the way of the assassins. How he became a master at his craft and still was willing to learn even inn old age. Ivy I just simply liked her personality. While she also could be calculating. I feel like she could get her headspace where she needed when she needed to. Wich I found kinda intresting, because not every AC protagonist has that mindsett inn the same way.

I think you're missing something with Ezio because I think Ezio by the end of his life in Revelations has really embodied what it means to be an Assassin. Revelations being my favorite version of Ezio. Top 3 favorites for me personally? 1 - Edward 2 - Altair 3 - Connor Honorable mention he'd be my #4 to Ezio again in Revelations I always preferred him in that game. Edward has always resonated with me I've always valued liberty as he does. Altair listening to his enemies I remember playing AC1 when I was in Elementary school listing to my enemies make really good points. lol Connor again Liberty and his being a revenge story also he reminds me of myself more than any of the characters very introverted and direct.

This video made me realise that its not that the characters themselves are boring, its the way I play the game is same for almost every character. Arno being this charismatic, rash and quick character somehow starts feeling off when you start playing as this patient guy who will wait 30 minutes for this one dude to walk this direction for a perfect assassination. As a character, my playstyle simply matches Bayek's and Basim's patient, efficient, ruthless and sometimes charismatic personalities. That's why although my favorite games have been AC: Ezio trilogy, Unity, Syndicate, Origin, Valhalla (story only) and Mirage, the characters who I've most connected with are only Bayek, Basim and Altaïr mostly.

My top 3 are Arno, Edward and Shay I like Arno because he had 3 motives, avenge his bio dad avenge his adopted dad and protecting Elise, I love Arno's character because of what a person will choose when push comes to shove when he had to choose between avenging the dead or protecting Elise he chose life...and he failed he was too late and you see what living with the worst case scenario of one bad day does to people and even then at rock bottom you can still come back maybe not in one piece but you can still come back TLDR: I like Arno because it shows what one bad day can do to someone and yet you can still come back from those horrors Edward: Edward was blindsided by the possibility of a better life and he delved deeper and deeper into that rabbit hole only to in a rare ounce of clarity he realized he had nobody left and despite all the terrible things he did despite being absolutely alone he still tried to better himself because for one gleaming moment he looked back at the path he treaded down and didn't like the destination so he changed course TLDR: I like Edward because he shows that even someone who has done terrible things and is so far down that road can still change course and better themselves. Shay: i like Shay because even despite everyone he ever knew or loved being part of the Assassins he saw they were doing wrong and he gathered the strength to stop it, Shay shows that regardless of how strong your bond with someone is if they're doing wrong you stop it like you would if anyone else did wrong even if it hurts like hell to do so they need to be stopped regardless

His way of treating people, creating his own justice looks pretty cool to me, and I found him charismatic in his own way. I like his religious perspective because he believes they will get their own justice in fact in Egypt mythology they would..As a girl i can even say he is a good role model and helped me through the hard challenges that i faced with and the fact is it is not about being right or wrong it is just about doing the thing you have to do

My top 3 are Haytham, Basim, and Ezio, which outside of that one outlier I would argue those first two are much more similar than people might initially think. Obviously on the surface the fact that they're both antagonistic forces means they have similar personality types but I do believe it goes deeper than that. Basim truly does believe in the Creed, and I think it's a big part of why he resented Roshan so much for lying to him. He did what he was doing because he believed they were right, and that the people he killed deserved that. And you still see that in Valhalla in how much he hates Odin. Everything he does is out of a sense of righteousness. Haytham, despite being the antithesis of what Basim believes in, is also everything a Templar is *supposed* to be. Because what he cares about is the actual belief system and not the power he thinks that position could bring him. People think that rooftop scene is so good because it puts on display that Haytham is the only antagonist since ac1 to actually believe he is doing something good. He offers a perspective people can actually listen to because it's coming from real conviction. I genuinely believe these two are some of the most interesting, and thought provoking characters to come from the series because they believe so strongly that what they are doing is right. In the end they almost feel more authentic than the characters we're supposed to find charismatic.

My favourite protagonists are 1. Edward, 2. Arno and 3.ezio While i do respect your opinion I can't connect too much with these protagonists even if it makes sense for them to be that as an assasin. i definitely enjoy the wittiness of edward and ezio while still being serious enough to get the job done . That somehow puts a fear in the enemies. Not to mention these guys can back their talk with their skills. Edward also gets a perfect character development and slowly realises his mistakes when eventually he has lost everything and that's true for alot of people, and does everything to rectify it as much as he can. While i also think an assassin would eventually get desensitised with all the killing to the point they can poke fun and make jokes about the situation without actually neglecting the current position they are in. Why i like arno is for a different reason and it's entirely his style . Like Altair and basim he is efficient but his efficiency contrasts their patient nature and waiting for everything to align just right. His efficiency is being so fast that it almost blinds your enemy so half of them are down without even knowing what hit them. It's both efficient requiring alot of planning while still being flashy and having a style that adds a unique charm to everything. This is also the way i expect most assasins to be in canon just dispatching through targets as fast as they can while still doing a perfect job and having fun so this all doesn't become a burden.

I like Altair the most for nit being a mindless drone but still super serious. From struggling with his ego. To questioning his assassinations to taking over the brotherhood. I like edzio as a character who got into the creed without knowing what it was because he basically got sucked into it. Thats why he appears more joke like in the first game a bit more serious in the second and all wise in the thrid. I like connor as much as edzio for being a naive booty hunter who later on discoverer the emptiness of his life. Losing everyone. Until he finally after seeing the abservatory knows what the creed stands for. And does everything for the creed later on But as what fits for the most mysterious and darker type of assassin i would pick altair so i do agree with that

What's up, Spaniard! So, from personality to physicality, my three favs would be (in no particular order); Altair: When i think of Altair, similar to Connor, i think of an relentless killing machine, but in a cold, calculating way. His detached and ruthless nature makes him accomplish his assignment no matter what and at the same time, efficiently. An angel of death, a ghost who was never there (even tho this isn't exactly the case gameplay-wise lol) Arno: Whether killing or parkouring, everything Arno did... was smoothly. It all looked so easy and natural to him, which always gave me an impression of playing with a prodigy assassin, the truly blade in the crowd who always perceives creative opportunities to complete his assassinations like a shadow, and the touch of his sassy, snarky personality made it even better. Evie: A criminally overlooked assassin. She is smart, level-headed, polite and studious, with a plan and sharp focus for every mission. Evie is one of the most reliable and responsible agents of the Brotherhood, also excelling at detective work along with Arno. Anyone of these three can be arguably considered the stealthiest assassin, besides having a more lean, agile built, which i always thought to fit well in the architype of an Assassin.

Personally I think that charm and charisma are good qualities to have as an assassin because that can often allow you to get information about your targets that you couldn’t get otherwise and then find ways to sneak towards them without having to expend all of your energy on optimizing your stealth approach, which can prove taxing on an individual, especially if they have multiple targets. Just thought I’d share that

My favorite character is Edward because I see myself in him in a lot because he often doesn’t see how he impacts the greater world and this often gets him in trouble like with Ade but also one thing Edward wants is to just be free and not be controlled which I think makes him perfect for the assassins and only after he loses most of his friends and finds his daughter does he change for the better and join the assassins he’s also a very respectful guy like we see with his daughter he accepts she doesn’t want to use his surname

Connor.. My first AC/PS3 game. (I beat the game before the end of the world in 2012). When I was 13, the game was a stress reliever because I hate my biological father. (Being a product of what my biological mother hates, it's not like my father is the one night stand type, it's me being the the youngest of five kids and eight years difference from my second older brother while the rest of my siblings even though the three older siblings had a different dad, were all born pretty close to each other). Growing older, having to realize that... Yeah, only benefit other people just under the false assumption that I was going be rewarded in return. My elder siblings think my biological father was bad but our shared biological mother is evil. As I question I have to change what I want to justify the actions on how I got to this point. Yes, growing up thinking that way how I was raised to think was right. (Assassins/My mom) But now realizing that in order to actually grow, I need to look at other perspectives even if it goes against my mother's ideology. (Templar/My only friend) I like being punished for my mistakes. Unlike Eatzio.... (AC 2 First Assassination: "Hide in plain sight, be one with the crowd." He was practically yelling his position). (AC Brotherhood He didn't throw the apple into the sea: "Never compromise the Brotherhood."Causing Uncle Mario and Monteriggioni to collapse, Eatzio was in his 40's). (AC Revelations Starting a fire causing innocent civilians to die do to smoke inhalation: "Stay your blade from the flesh of an innocent." I don't care about technicalities, old wise man Eatzio did all this just to assassinate 1 man).

Even if that leads him down a path that ultimately makes him one of the enemies greatest weapons. He is a conflicted and feels likea more mature character which kind of reflects the real world imo, there comes a time when order needs to rebalance the chaos. I think that both Bayek and Basim show a bit of an affinity towards fun, not always being these brooding serious characters but allowing themselves to joke and have fun as well, just that it's less so frequent with them in contrast to someone like Jacob who is all jokes. Barring Ezio my favorite protagonist is Bayek, surprisingly enough, I found him to be especially realistic in the way he's portrayed, at the end of the day he's a broken human trying to pick up the pieces of himself and this world he lives in and put it back together if only a tiny bit. That's obviously largely in part due to the amazing performance by Abu Salim, who is still in my opinion one of the best actors to ever work on AC.

He goes from very selfish and very entitled to selfless and takes accountability for his own actions. something i can relate to in my own ways. he finds something bigger than himself to be apart of. from believing in nothing and only seeing the value of things for his own personal gain to becoming this master assassin and wanting better for the creed and himself.

Excuse my English, I will try my best Great video by the way I watch a lot of AC video and this one is really chill and easy to watch With unusual and well defended arguments I am here to defend a view that won’t be shared by many I think But as far as I am concerned, as a Big fan of Assassin’s Creed, the character I relate the most and I feel the most inspired by is: Connor Some might say he didn’t change a lot through his journey They might not completely be wrong but paradoxically I think, that is what make his strength Connor his a naive and childish spirit who live in a world full of injustices and intricacy And surrounded by people with a view point way more complexe and cynical about the world Like Achille, Haytham, the patriots,… With all these, the treason he endured and drama he lived Connor have all the reason to fall in despair But he never do, not even at a single moment Everybody is calling him a fool and to this he keep being stubborn And keep believing in simples things and never give up The unfairness of the unfair and the purety of freedom And at some point, he end up being right I think the Davenport place is a good exemple Look at what it look like before Connor And then when he take rule He brought life to this land By helping and welcoming lot’s of people Even he is not social and doesn’t understand humans easily ( as a shy person this is the part I relate to ) He wants the best for people for him that just evidences Evidences that intellectuals seems to forget because of all the complexity of theses political conflicts Connor have hopes and he brings it wherever he goes Sometimes he is wrong and easy to trick Like for the peace he wish with Haytham Or his friendship with the patriots But no matter what, he keeps moving and get up like before because he keep believing And after all, the other are the one that are admiratives of him And by the end, he finish to understand that their will always have injustice somehow, somewhere But it don’t demotivated him He turn his naïvete and childish wants of perfect world, to a dedicate dévotion to a creed that aim for lighter days That’s a philosophy we might call simple But isn’t what we need is complexes times ? People simply showing us the way while we are just stopped by our own thoughts I myself, am much of a thinker, more than a man of action It happen sometimes that I fall into a negative view of things because of overthinking At this point a relate to Haytham who is really more of intellectual guy who don’t believe in simplicity That’s some reasons why I am nothings but admirative of a pure devotion to a goal in a path full of obstacles. I think it have demands lots of guts to came up with such a character just after the charismatic Ezio These are facts that make Connor, I think, really unique

I personally want a charater thats a mix of the brooding serious assassin and the charismatic assassin. I feel like most of them are either mostly one or the other. But to me if youre too serious and don't really have charisma you don't actually blend in. But if you're too jokey and funny then you kinda either seem like you're covering up for something/trying too hard to "act normal" or you just come off as a psychopath who loves killing people. A mix and I mean a solid of the two types would do a lot to connect you to the charater and make them seem more real and believable as a person.

I know you said besides Ezio but i generally consider younger Ezio (2 and brotherhood) and older Ezio (revelations and embers) distinct from one another. Same goes for Unity Arno and Dead kings Arno (while he isn’t older he is more jaded and has gone through a lot of development). So if I had to actually say my top three I’d have to say (and not necessarily in order): older Ezio, dead kings Arno, and my beloved Shay Patrick cormac (Shay while having the shortest story in the mainline games really struck me because of his adherence to his own creed outside the brotherhood or templars creeds, and his willingness to question said creeds. Also he is just badass).

Bayek deserves a sequel so badly (or even a prequel as a Medjay simulator haha) , also coulda have been so nice to get a game with him and Aya in Rome 😮😢 and btw, as a fellow Spaniard myself Jordi Boixaderas did an increeedible job en Castellano with Bayek ❤

My top 3 are ezio Altair and bayek. I am with you in so far as you talk about Altair and bayek but i do like to put ezio up there. Mainly because ezio towards the end of his story embodied the wisdom of Altair.

My top 3 actually falls into each category. Edward, Bayek and Jacob and Evie (I honestly just count them as two parts of a whole). I love the adaptability of the series, and I am not necessarily looking for that cold calculated "blade in the crowd" fantasy. I think Edward has my favourite character arc in the series, and he is probably the one I personally relate to the most. A man who keeps falling before realizing what he needs to be. I love Bayek because he has range. He very naturally slips in and out of his vengeance filled competent assassin persona into being a loving man. And I find the twins simply entertaining. I enjoy them just bumbling about together. No relatablity, I don't think they are necessarily great characters, I just had a lot of fun seeing them on screen. I think Ezio is great. You get three games with him, and he gets a lot of character development. But I never really connected with him that much personally. So he never made my top 3 to begin with. Out of every AC protagonist he feels the most hollywood action protagonist to me besides maybe the twins. But again, I like the twins purely for entertainment purposes anyway. Honorable mention is Connor. I think he is very underrated.

Not in any way related to what you said but the video reminded me that in Origins guards carry bodies of their fellow soldiers when they find them dead to bury them later probably. And it made me feel really bad.

I prefer the vengeful trait in my AC protagonists. Those who have lost people and at least in the beginning only become an assassin for revenge. That is one of the reasons why i dont really understand Arno. His father was killed but as far as i know he never tries to avenge his father in any way.
@TheSpaniardAssassin

@@TheSpaniardAssassin Oh yeah. I almost forgot that the death of his adopted father was one of the catalysts for the plot. Strange that he would seek revenge for his adopted father but not his real father. One explaination could be that he was so young when his dad died, but i dont really rhink that makes much sense.

I loved Edward but not for his charm or anything. AC4 was my first AC game and I mostly played it for the pirate aspect but that cutscene where he became an assassin was so enticing to me, the way he could say “feeling no wiser than when I left home” ironically being a showcase of his gained wisdom is amazing to me. And the way he understood that his blunders led to him losing everyone he held dear and the wisdom he gained from that hit really close to home, as I’ve personally lost quite a few family members and a few friends and I’ve learned to take a lesson away from every tragedy in my life and Edward really just embodies that in a way I’ve not seen before

@@TheSpaniardAssassin absolutely. I also don’t know if this was intentional or not but I kinda noticed that The Parting Glass, historically a Celtic farewell song sung long before AC4 was developed, managed to have lyrics that tied into Edward’s character that made the conclusion even more heartfelt

I love your content, you’re so honest with your opinion, just one thing I would like to say if you can add more build videos, stealth guides, tools usage, tips and tricks for each game as well best armors weapons you will have insane content and people love to watch those thing. I m not saying these are the best youtubers out there but as an example leo k, jorraptor, t7pdm, master assassin they all do something like this and they got insane views and popularity, we desperately need someone new with new perspective on build design for each AC game honestly

Honestly my top 3: Altair, Connor, and Shao Jun. Maybe ill add the Japanese Assassins when they drop but these 3 have been my favorites. I still hate Shao Jun only got a side scroller and not a full game. Im still waiting for the installment that lets us create our own Assassin.

I liked Ezio, Altair, and Bayek.... never played Basim's game just yet. Also I really liked Connor. Sometimes I like the emotional guys with big goals and other times I like the killing machines like Altair. The serious guys are usually my preference, but Ezio is the most interesting man in my life.

Yeah i agree I prefer the more serious AC protagonist. Than the more jokey charismatic AC characters! Because idk Ezio, Edward, and Jacob are cool and all, but it's kinda awkward to have these jokey, jokey, light hearted characters brutally murdering people. When a far more serious character like Bayek feels more realistic. For example my favorite character is Connor, but it sucks because half of the fanbase hates him for being "too serious" and stoic. But idk it makes perfect sense for him to be that way, especially for all the hell he goes through in his story!

I think an actually realistic Assassin would probably scare off and repel most players. Even if the assassinations were to be for the sake of a cause, the characters would probably not be attractive to the majority of players. The reason for that is not that they'd necessarily have to act inhumanly evil or cold or whatever, it's just that real life people are orders of magnitude above any AC protagonist in terms of complexity, and thus much harder to understand and, perhaps ironically*, to relate to. Afterall, how would normal people be able to relate to the emotions, thoughts and behavior of a character who's THAT foreign to them? The most obvious answer would be: giving said character traits and stories that are easy to relate to in spite of their heinous actions--which is what AC writers did for all protagonists in the franchise so far. And AC writing, in its entirity, ends up being written with consideration to that. It's as if the 1st rule in their AC Writing Guideline was: "No matter how absurd the protagonist's ideals and actions may be, the framing and direction of the game must still paint them as someone who players can wholeheartedly like and root for". That is the everpresent rose-colored lenses of pure fantasy. The one that provides us with the safety and simplicity of experiencing an idealized heroic saga that, at most, might make us temporarily convince ourserves that the portrayals contained within are somehow realistic and grounded, despite the whole thing being a thinly veiled illusion. *It's ironic that the AC protagonists are all written in a way so as to be somewhat relatable and comprehensible, whereas their approximate real world counterparts would definitely be neither easy to relate nor understand. The evidence of that can be seen in true crime media. In this case, the "protagonists" (specifically terrorists from extremist religious groups, who are probably the closest to real-life Assassin's counterparts) may sometimes be considered interesting or reasonable in some ways, but they're hardly ever people who anyone would want to "play as". The three Assassins The Spaniard highlighted are maybe a bit closer to ground when compared to their kin, but they're still bound to the very same simplistic framing and stories that revolve around the protagonists being the heroes we should enjoy playing as and ultimately root for. So, I guess the keyword here is "safety". As long as AC continues to deliver slightly different shades of safe and enjoyable power fantasies, the Assassins will invariably be fantastic superhumans who always manage to look cool while doing mass murdering, and who will always be likable heroes despite also being despicable monsters.

I think your interest in the more hardcore assassins make a lot of sense! They are the stone cold killers the protagonists of these games are made out to be and that the gameplay often rewards. So when you skulk and assassinate and strategize you embody that same mindset the character is! Plus those characters have the most to say about dedication to the, you know, Assassin's Creed as a concept. I think that's cool
