Jeff, I have to say I've never run into a more experienced and excellent and tremendous person that knows how to breed and get eggs hashed when they need to be hatched from your chickens. I think from what I see on KZbin. Jeff that you are the reigning expert of knowing how to breed hatch your chicken eggs and I will say you also know where to put your roosters of certain breeds in with your chickens. The right ones. And I've never seen on here KZbin fat. That is a more expert and with more knowledge. Anybody else than you are. Jeff and I want to say I have been watching for many years. Your KZbin videos and I like what you put on KZbin videos for your content. It is the best informative content of how to hatch and raise chickens properly. I thank you. Jeff from the bottom of my heart for having watched somebody expert like you. Again, thank you and congratulations for your KZbin Jeff ❗❗❗

Our brood boxes where small dog cages wrapped in hardware cloth. With a nesting box attached at one end. Normally kept the boxes inside the coop. Huge love ❤ from Canada.

Thanks Jeff very informative, I just watched another channel yesterday, The Denman Homestead in Texas, she had a hen that was hatching eggs and was checking them often and she had to take the baby chicks and what eggs were left because the first time mama hen had eaten the first 2 chicks that had hatched. That was the first time I had ever heard of that, and now the chicken master Jeff says that it can happen but rarely. Her new chicks have the feathers on their feat, with black skin. LOL forgot what name she called them. God Bless and stay safe, keep the video's coming.

Yay a Professor Jeff video! Love Grumpy claiming that chair. 😃 For me it seems broody hens are like chips… you can’t have just ONE, once they start a sister does too. Craziest thing I didn’t know to expect, I have separate flocks in different yards, no way they can even see each other… but they sync up and hatch the same day. I’ve also learned to start the incubator when I see them begin to go brood, because I never want a chick to grow alone if something goes wrong. Those are the eggs I selected from specific hens, and can add in where needed. Oh and my girls will have a few hatch, then leave the rest of the eggs. Make sure to bring those in and check/ candle them. Several times now we hear them chirping and get 6 more chicks from the incubator days later. Some hens are greedy and keep taking eggs from their sisters(seen them go to a next door nest box and roll them over) after they’ve already been sitting too long.

I had a Rhode Island Red in the nest box the other night. She was somewhat aggressive but not too bad, although she did bite me a couple times. She is normally very sweet so I thought she had gone broody. She changed her mind by the next morning.

Ever wander how a chicken will hatch 10 or 12 baby chicks within 24 hours? I mean laying 1 egg a day for 12 days means they should hatch 1 a day for 12 days right?.... THEY KNOW not to sit on the nest until its time to start the development process.. when they get a nest goin they wont sit until the nest is full.. therefore the development process starts at the same time for all 12 eggs! Very interesting how life works!!

Another sign they are broody is they fluff up and clucks.

I’m guessing you would get less eggs when a hen starts the brooding process. Whereas, if you hatch in the incubator the hen will continue laying. Or, do they only stop laying during their moulting time?
