I have just started level 2 classes. I missed level 3 by 2% in the level test but I’m glad I did. Even though I know most of the grammar and a lot of words taught in level 2 I had a feeling that it would be more helpful in the long run to start from there and after watching your video now I’m certain. I wouldn’t be very happy to feel lost in class or have to study like crazy to catch up 😅 taking in account that it’s also taught in korean 😄

Watching this while preparing for my 2 Korean classes on Saturday, haha! I'm currently going through a CLS course but one of my friends has taken a couple KIIP courses. It sounds like you get a fair amount of practical skill practice and your video is convincing me to look into signing up! As much as I adore the teachers and classmates in my CLS class I feel like I need a more intensive course to up my reading/speaking. I'm so conscious of my accent and still read so slowly (I die every time I go to the 노래방...). Out of curiosity, what was the schedule like? Was it every week day or on the weekends?
@veronicainkorea6 жыл бұрын
I haven't heard much about CLS before, sounds interesting! Honestly noraebang is such good reading practice! I spent a lot of free time before classes at the coin norae (and I still go a lot lol). For level 2 and 3, it was a 100 hour course and if I'm remembering correctly, my schedule was MWF 6:30 to 10pm. For level 4 and 5 I chose to do Saturday classes from 9am to 6pm...Kind of torcherously long but at least it left my weekday evenings free. There were other class times available so it just depends on you and your schedule.

Is there a place where I can buy the books for levels 1 and 2 before arriving to SK? I really look forward to more of your videos about KIIP!

Is there any requirements you have to fulfill to even sign up for classes/the placement tests? I’m moving to Korea in August and am already looking at classes for Korean! I definitely want to stay long term in Korea and I know that KIIP helps ALOT but i’m nervous I won’t be able to sign up having just gotten there...

Hi Veronica, to apply to this KIIP courses do I have to be already working in Korea? I mean have working or study visa? My point is I am just planning to go to Korea and firstly I wanted to go to some uni to take Korean courses which I have to pay for. But if i apply at uni I can get studying visa so I am wondering if it is the same in KIIP or I have to be already working in Korea. Thanks for your answer. :)
@veronicainkorea5 жыл бұрын
KIIP doesn't sponsor visas like a university does, so yes, you need to already be in Korea with a valid visa. I don't think visa type is important, as many of my classmates came from many walks of life: housewife, teacher, company employee, student, researcher, etc.
@narthasis32495 жыл бұрын
@@veronicainkorea but i cannot do it just on tourists visa right? cause I am from Slovakia and I can stay in Korea until 90 days on any visa or "tourist" visa. So it is my point I think i need some longer term Korean visa to apply for it either student or working visa :/

No, because you need to have an ARC (alien registration card). It's an ID card you receive from immigration when you get a longer term visa.

@lovingyouinsilence6 жыл бұрын
How would you say your korean improved after completing the program? Can you have natural conversations with natives now?
@veronicainkorea6 жыл бұрын
I'm not fluent yet!! For every level I kind of barely passed lol so while my Korean improved a lot, I wouldn't say I sound completely natural/fluent. Maybe if you're not as lazy as me you will get more out of the course. There's tons of vocab and a bit of grammar that I need to restudy and relearn, outside of class there is a lot of colloquial speech I don't know about, and I still feel self-conscious when speaking to adults. However, I think all of these things that would contribute to sounding natural are easily remedied by diligently studying at home and practicing what you learn outside of class. I'm just a bit lazy lol. Hope this answers your question~

@veronicainkorea6 жыл бұрын
Oh snappity! Saw your comment but never responded! I think you're right in that you will have more of a community at uni. Especially because I think most likely you'll encounter people from similar walks of life, similar ages, similar schedules etc. In KIIP it's quite diverse in people's ages, work schedules, marital status, having kids or not so you might not have lifestyles that match up in a way that allows you to be friends outside of class. That being said, I did end up making a good set of friends through KIIP (of diverse backgrounds and statuses) and some of us still keep in touch. I guess no matter what it will depend on the people. My answer is a novel sorry lol but hopefully this helps!

Thanks for watching! As I understand, you need to have an ARC (alien registration card) which is basically an ID card for foreigners in Korea. Spousal visa I think would work because you would need to get an ARC for that, but just travelling would not grant you an ARC. Hope that makes sense!

I'm not sure about where to purchase them online internationally, but I know there are some pdfs floating around online so maybe you can try searching for those? Also I heard twochois does special ordering but I've never tried it myself. These books were designed for and required by this language program which is why I used them. If you can't find these particular books, I wouldn't fret too much since there are lots of other really great Korean textbooks available internationally.
