I just used Window World when replacing my rental property windows on the house top floor. Four rooms=four 4000 Series windows=$2150. If you’re the rental property owner on paper, the most valid reason to replace windows is if the window structure is hazardous and could possibly lead to you being faced with a lawsuit. For example, the renter who was moving in has 2 toddlers. The windows posed a fire hazard and even fall risk. If your windows are difficult to open and/or keep open then obviously replacing the compromised windows will save you tens if not hundreds of thousand dollars just in legal fees and law suit damages. Great customer service and service line.

Just to add my two cents. I used WW to replace a few very old, broken windows in a rental. They came in with 3 or 4 guys and knocked all three windows out in under 2 hours. I'm mostly happy with the windows and work. I did have a warranty claim due to damage on one of the windows which was resolved. I recently replaced another window myself using a Pella from Lowes. Comparing specifications on efficiency between what WE sold me and the Pella 150 series, WW is about 300% better. I'm happy with the looks and installation of the one I did, but I won't know for sure until winter. For the difference in money, I like WW. I did my own for much less, but the quality is not as good and obviously a lot more work. Only bonus is I know how it was done. The guys from WW moved so fast I couldn't keep an eye on the work they did.

Great input, thanks for sharing your experience, Ed! I think most of the variance people have in their experience (some love WW and some hate them) seems to come down to the individual franchise office in their area. Some of them are great operators with great installers and others, not so much. There was a great operator in my area, and that made all the difference.

I have been installing windows professionally for over 20 years. That is on average 10 windows a week for 23 years. I have personally installed over 10,000 windows. I have never removed the weights from the cavities and have never worked with anyone that has done that or subcontracted with a company that ever mentioned to do that. I have subbed jobs for all the major company's Sear's, Window World, Champion, Montgomery Ward,K-Designers.I also have pulled many permits for jobs from many different cities and never has one mentioned anything about removing the weights. I however think it is a good idea to fill it with foam, not necessarily remove the weights. Leave the weights in the void, drill a hole on top and fill it 3/4 up with minimal expanding foam. Installing professionally All of the major window companies DO NOT pay to take apart the jamb and remove the weights. Since it is not really necessary and a very, very dirty extra, it's not done. If you want the weights removed, you would need to tell the salesman that you want the weights removed so you could be charged more for the extra work involved, but in my opinion that is not included. Also obviously not all windows have the "weights" in the wall. Only the really old wooden windows do and those are getting few and far between. Are you sure your windows even had weights? To me it looked like yours were the type that used springs in a plastic track that the sash slides on. I don't think yours used the really old weights and rope type. And I don't think it's the biggest fail companies do. Not even close. The biggest I would say is not supplying the customer with safety glass when the code says it should be safety glass. In towns where there is no permits this happens a lot. Safety glass is 2x to 3x more expensive then regular glass so it is commonly overlooked.** Edit I looked over the video again and yes you did have the weights. But still should have left them in the wall.

RP it sounds like you have a lot of experience. I assume you've worked with Pella, Andersen and a variety of others. You're involved on the front end so you may not get feedback on how things are a few years later but I suspect you've gotten some. I have a custom home in a custom neighborhood in the midwest. I plan on selling it the next year. Zillow says it's worth about $250,000. There are thirteen windows that move up and down. There are stationary doors and widows that I may not replace unless the thermo seal is broken. At $289/window (although I may upgrade to 6000 series) it comes out to about $3,757. I assume there will be add on charges. I had an estimate from a local company that came in around $16,000 for thirteen windows. I want to be fair to the future owner of my home, but I also want to be fair to myself. I'm not sure what the draft factor is on the 6000 series. Do you have any suggestions on which way to go.

Whenever there's an existing weight & pully system the exterior wood trim boards should be removed. The entire weight cavities & header gaps should be filled with a minimum of R19 5 1/2 thick fiber glass insulation. The exterior board's reinstalled and then custom bent -capped & caulked aluminum trim to entire exterior wood work. Many homeowners opt out of this step because of the additional labor cost involved. It is highly recommended and is well worth the nominal cost for maximum efficiency & performance of replacement windows. Also , by extracting existing windows from the outside, allows for zero disturbance to the interior woodwork.

They have a lot of complaints nation wide, the 2000 window series saves very little energy, not a good investment at all, the 4000 series much better at $400 a window and of course the 6000 series is the best energy window they offer. What I don't like is they charge extra to hall of your existing windows after they are removed. Looks like there average sale is around $450 per window.
@RandyGoins4 жыл бұрын
They have complaints without a doubt, but, through working for most of these store owners ...the are good people who mean well. They have to pay a dump fee for the windows they remove and haul away, which is why they charge a fee. I am a 12-year vendor partner for Window World and have learned a lot during that time ... on here trying to learn more. For the price, it's by far the best window you can purchase. Other outfits sell a similar vinyl product and will walk in your home and try to charge you double if you are willing to pay it - that's not the Window World approach. Honest, hard working people who have been fortunate.

Window World does not manufacture their own windows, they source rebranded product from actual window manufacturers. Worst case the windows that they install might be low end product dependent on what window they are using which is often dependent on their location. Best case it's a decent window from a better company, but generally speaking Window World products are going to fall somewhere into mid-range quality at best. At the very least it's worth the effort when considering WW or any other installer for that matter to find out as much as you can about what window they are actually installing and follow up on manufacturer quality and customer service reputation. Some Window World (and other installation companies) sales people have been known to claim that they manufacture their own windows, something that they don't do, so if that's what you are being told then you might consider that as a potential red flag.

Just bought windows from them today! 😁 will you do a follow up video of the windows like if they saved you money on energy?
@keithfillinger31826 жыл бұрын
I realize this is an older post. There are a lot of variables as to how much money you will save by installing new Windows. First, the kind of Windows you replaced (single pane verses double pane, aluminum frame verses wood frame, etc.). Second, the type of glass package was selected as a replacement (triple pane, double pane, etc.). There are even options (typically coatings like Low E, but there others) within the triple or double pane glass options that will affect their efficiency ratings. Most double or triple pane units are filled with argon or krypton gas as an insulator between window panes. Argon is most commonly used, and krypton is typically used in situations where they want to make the glass pane spacing narrower as it is a denser gas. Third is the physical condition of the Windows that were replaced. Things like rotting sills, sashes, poor glazing will make old Windows more inefficient. Also, the way old Windows were installed. I just had some old Windows replaced recently. I did a full window replacement. That means they cut out everything down to the framing on my house. My old frames were installed in the mid 1950's. There was not a whole lot of insulation around those frames aside from a little bit I added. The newer windows were completely insulated around after they were installed and before all the finish work was completed. That alone will make up for a huge energy savings in my case.

The two numbers that I put the most attention to are U value and solar gain coefficient. U value is the heat transfer ratio so you can think of it like a R value but in percentage form. That window for my area (Louisiana) would have a very good U value but for your area up further north would be probably average. Around here the u value is typically is around .34-.36 which means it allows around 34-36% of the thermal energy to transfer through it. Solar gain is the UV energy. Down here I recommend my real estate clients doing new construction to get a window with .20 because our primary concern here is that solar energy through our long summers but further north it is less important and you should shoot for the lower U value for the long winters.

If you are in your forever home windows should be replaced every 20 years or so based on your budget. Modern windows are more energy efficient.....so cost savings recoup over time..but more if it is your forever home. If you are doing a flip it would not be cost effective to replace all windows at same time these companies can determine if a window or which ones actually need to be replaced ...they can tell if the window itself needs to be replaced or if the whole frame around it the woodwork will needs to be replaced because of water damage, rot etc....and there are other things you can do to improve efficiency like screens etc. Just recognize if you doing a flip or staying in a home for only 5 to 6 years you won't recoup the cost of replacing all the windows in general.
@gregcorwin83162 жыл бұрын
Why in the world would you replace perfectly good windows just because they were 20 years old? That's something tin-man sales people would tell someone, but it's a total waste of effort and money unless the windows being replaced were questionable to start with.

On top of that, they quoted the same price for any size picture window. I have one window at 120" W x 55" H. That's an amazing deal! I thoroughly agree with the maxim You Get What You Pay for. Alot of people have a budget or rent their property out. In southern California and even central CA, temperatures go over 100 degrees regularly in the summer. So you want to block as much energy coming into your home as you can to keep it cool and reduce your A/C bill. This is not only good for your wallet its good for the environment. About 60 percent of the residential windows in the Coachella Valley have failed. The argon has leaked out, seals failed etc. Just going with the minimun required level of window for Socal (it will be didderent if you live where its not so hot) you will save a ton on energy costs. Especially if your HOA drops its requirement for aluminum, or bronze colered frames. Bronze in vinyl is more expensive than white. At any rate, the windows come with a great warranty and even if you can't afford the top of the line its a great improvement.

Reliable subcontractors /installers are hard to find. Its better if the franchisee has their own installers, not sub contractors. You want licensed, insured professionals doing the work as well. That can be tough to find when so many contractors are willing to play games and hire illegals to cut labor costs. They are able to bid low but no where to be found when something isn't right. In the process they push out legal, certified, insured workers. And they leave the area or the trades because they can't compete on what is an uneven playing field. I worked for a licensed contractor in the coachella Valley, real close to Mexico. His price on a masonry wall was $85 a linear foot. Some A hole "contractor" said he could do it for $65. Impossible, if you are following the rules. Paying the workers comp insurance, paying minimum wage, etc. The material cost is the same. Its only the labor cost thats different. If everything goes right no one knows the difference but maybe you get into tax trouble with the state and certainly your insurance company is looking over the accounting. The accountant has to know they are doing something illegal. In Cali you just can't hire anyone. But they do. They try to get away with it all the time. By that time your project is already built/ installed. If you have problems you are SOL. I bid a job for an addition to an architect's house. Low bid. Probably too low knowing my boss. The homeowner went with someone else. I definitely got the feeling he was "hiring his own guys" to cut down labor. There was just no way he beat our price. If he didn't pay us we have something like 21 days to file a contractors lien. So the bill arrives in the mail next to the letter anouncing the filing of the lein. Standard operating proceedure, CYA. Of course if you are not legalky supposed to be working in the state, you aren"t filing a lien are you? No. People know this and fuck their contractors all the time. Stop paying, order changes right and left and don't want to pay...it goes on and on. You have to have a goid contract to begin with. One that says any changes will be extra. You have to have the homeowner PAY for the materials up front. Pay a certain amount when work is started. Pay when work is 50% done, 75% done, and pay upon completion. Otherwise you loose your shirt. So much BS and fraud in the industry I wonder why anybody is in the biz.

I'm sorry to hear that. Sounds like the problem is because of the franchise issue, with a different person handling all the logistics in each region (it's not ONE corporate office handling the entire country), so it makes sense that there would be differences in quality throughout the country. Windows were great and he did all 12 in under 2 hours. The other problem I had was they said 6 weeks- 16 weeks later is when they were installed. Wasn't the biggest fan of my salesman either. I have no idea about their longevity, I dunno that I would use the again, mostly due to the time delay.

I had a similar experience. The person I talked to at their store actually told me they hate the "$189 window" tagline because it's just not true, but it's so ingrained as part of their brand, they can't get away from it. They told me 8 weeks and it took 8 weeks, so there were no surprises on that front.

So many caveats that can incease or decrease price. If the window has to be egressible, is in a place where the glass needs to be tempered, the size of the window or slider. Local tax breaks and permit requirements. What actually has to be done to the original frame.The color. White is cheapest. So much depends on where you live. These are franchises. Each with a different owner and sales force. Lowes and Home Depot are all about the bait and switch. The fine print. You definitely loose when you tell somebody your low price without the caveats and exceptions. Its nearly impossible to tell what a final price will be over the phone. Salespeople should come to your home with a loong worksheet to check off all the requirements, measurements and accesories.

Word of advice my father's in construction stay away from Vinyl to begin with. I'm currently looking at patio doors and replacing 2 window .. guy my father sent me to said he'd been working for 25 years , vinyl windows and doors is what he gets called out for repair the most regardless the brand however ,if I still wanted vinyl Andersen or siminton he would sell it to me, warned I'd be paying more for something that won't last ( the entire list of doors I'm looking at went out the window).vinyl has a tendency of separating due to heat and or cold not only does this alter appearance it can cause them to fail... now keep in mind I live in Florida it can go from Thirty at night 80 midday during the winter along with high humidity so it may not be as bad in other States. And Pella currently has lawsuits due to Window defects in my area Pella Windows leaked causing a lot of damage to new construction homes.pella producing for Lowe's as a result a lot of independent window companies no longer carry them they are mass-producing and when you Mass produce quality goes down. Andersen has had their own issue on and off throughout the years. never thought replacing a sliding glass door and two bathroom Windows would be this much of a headache

You should’ve had the old windows restored and deglazed, they would’ve lasted longer than the new double pane. Eventually the argon glass will leak out of the double panes and the glass will fog up. A vinyl window will probably last 20-25 years and an old window restored will last longer than that and it will be cheaper to restore.
@freshpow216 жыл бұрын
whelenvortexr4 I agree that some of the older windows are made with solid craftsmanship. However, there can be several factors that folks are considering when they opt for the vinyl from WW. They typically center around the lifetime warranty against defects or failure. 1) Double-pane w/ argon for efficiency - A must for hot climates and WW will lifetime replace if argon leaks. No questions asked. 2) Decent financing terms 3) Lifetime transferable warranty 4) Competitive pricing on materials and install - WW is huge and deals in big numbers, allowing them to offer windows and installation cheaper because their initial costs are lower than others. Similar strategy you see with Wal-Mart. And WW is a company with long-term viability as a business. Note of caution: It's very important that WW customers understand and not void the warranty. Don't alter or paint the windows! While I love the old-school windows, sometimes the bottom-line dollar and piece of mind move folks to their product. Hope this explains the alternate viewpoint well. 👍🏼
@mariai95496 жыл бұрын
the windows do not use a metal frame inside. metal expands and contracts which would more likely eventually leak argon gas quicker than the material they use.

@freshpow215 жыл бұрын
Orcinus1967 that’s correct. The vinyl windows can transfer heat as well, but not as much as metal. Probably even more important is having proper insulation in the gaps between the window and the rough out framing. I live in southeast Texas and it gets very hot here. Even in direct, prolonged sunlight in August, the window frames and glass were slightly warm at the most. They are typically cool to the touch most of the time.
