The first ever pimped matatu was called Concord on the westlands route way back in 1983. It was a Nissan and Nairobi has never looked back...Yes I'm that old. Not many of you are old enough to correct me.😌

Being an Interior designer and someone in architecture world, I love it when people cant really tell the pattern of thoughts in my designs. For example, The way CBK Pension Towers was finished at the top, You may think its unfinished but its complete as per the design and functioning. Also I find it fun when a building looks somehow average but when you get inside you are surprised how marvelous it looks. Thanks for your wonderful review on your experience in Kenya.

greed for money by landlords, they try to minimize the cost by escaping the finishing up expenses. Developers build high apartments to recover the cost they bought the land. Plots outside Nairobi are even very expensive. A 50 by 100 feet plot could go up to Kshs 5 million (UShs 150 million) so building apartments with many floors helps to recover the costs.

The reason the packaging bag are sold in Kenya is to encourage reusing them, they are expensive and if they are given for free people will be throwing them away thus increasing the cost for business owners. So we encourage people to buy their own bags in order to reuse them again and again. It was a government initiative to minimize environmental pollution and littering.

Thank you for the positive reviews about Kenya...Mpesa is everywhere! I hardly carry any cash..I can eat, buy anything with Mpesa..no cash. There's also airtel money, similar to Mpesa Matatus(nganyas)... the music is loud but amazing, sometimes you go past your destination 😂 If you want to really see how people move really fast, wake up early in the morning and travel to town!! You'll be shocked The guy who approached you while filming around the Parliament building is probably a security personnel checking on you, I once travelled across Uganda while travelling to Rwanda, Uganda has a lot of food. Ugandans like wet food, we Kenyans mostly like dry foods...am laughing about githeri😂😂😂😂 The polythene bags were prohibited.... We love Ugandans, they're respectful!! Kenyan ladies can never kneel down😂 Ego cannot allow that. Internet is cheap, you can even pay 10/= for 1GB KZbinr for 3hrs Thank you for the comprehensive review..

About matatu culture started way back in 1980's if iam not wrong. And the idea was/ is to bring comfort and same environment you experience at your house. When you visit a kenyan house something you will notice is well piped music coming out. Next is wifi in almost all the Kenyans houses. Those matatus with music and are super pimped are called Nganyas 👌

When it comes to food, each of the 42 tribes in Kenya have their traditional foods which you will not just find anywhere in the urban centres. Again, not everyone enjoys food with soup and those who prefer having their meals with soup, will request for it if the food is served without soup. I've also seen establishments where they always give soup separately in a bowl to accompany the main dish. I would also like to know the different varieties of foods they've in Uganda for me to understand this hype about Ugandan food...on a lighter note though.
