Toning doesn’t really change the color of your hair, it just helps your natural hair not have so many colors in from say like the sun, previous coloring, and sometimes hair products that we use! It makes it look more like one color and also makes it shinier :) I remember going to a salon and the woman called out (nicely) all of my hair colors that I had previously done for the past 2 years 😂 in order for me to get blue hair, she had to tone my hair to get it kinda back to my natural color so that when she did dye it, it wouldn’t have so many mixed colors in it :) hope I helped 😅

I’m a hairstylist, toner cancels out any unwanted pigment and smooths down the cuticle from the previous lighting. At my salon we call it a glaze. 💕 edit: of course the stylist needs to tone with the correct level, meaning the color it’s lightened to with bleach. Hair is measured on levels, 1 (darkest) to 10 (lightest). You can also tone to achieve a completely different color like “caramel” or “ strawberry blonde” for example.

hairdresser here 👋 toning the hair can mean many things. You can tone your hair overall darker or even deposit warmer tones to your highlights. It's basically a color refresh on the hair because a toner is not a permanent color so it washes out over time. its just enhances the tonality of your overall color. Majority of the time toning the hair is counteracting the unwanted warmth that you have in your hair like for a blonde. But you can customize a toner to fit any wanted tone u want in the hair! even a copper! :) hope that helps!

a toner/toning your hair is when you color your hair using a gloss so it's less permanent than a hair dye. when people get highlights, after the bleaching, they will put a toner on to get it to the shade of blonde that you want. depending on what you want it could come out more warm, cool, ashy, etc
