one of my failure, not being courageous enough to say what I really want in my life. Picked the wrong subject in high school, struggled in it...almost choose the wrong course at university (UK) but I choosed to listen to my heart for the first time of my life my my reason. So I'm changing university and course at the moment for september. Hope I'll get accepted for a course I really want something. Thank for sharing yours.

Young adults who are currently in college and watching this...DONT DROP OUT! If anything in college you will learn how to properly run a business, actually know how to do accounting, and you can proudly walk across the stage! Where would we be without educated doctors, lawyers, teachers, accountants?! Yes, school is not for everyone, but neither is a KZbin/entrepreneural life. P.S. I'm a teacher, speech-language pathologist, and a business owner...I went to college and I'm proud of it...going to get my doctorate soon. Never stop learning!

I went to business school for 3 years and do not know anything how to run a business, dont know how accounting works…they do not teach you this in college and I repeat: they do not teach you. What youre left with is a diploma and a hunt for job, that you have to learn how to do at the workplace. I did graduate from food engineering too snd can say that same thing as I said about Business school.

MIMI thank you SO much! I'm struggling with my university right now and realized I don't think I will be able to graduate. Just today I told my friends how I actually feel this is going to ruin my life. I completely broke down. They helped me feel much better after a long talk, and now you post this! I really look up to you, so I feel like this is a sign I'm going to be just fine and everything will work out for me in the end. I have so many dreams, aspirations, and passions and now after watching this I feel like I'm not such a complete failure and I will become something. Thank you thank you thank you a million times. Love you lots, Mimi

You'll be just fine honey. I was pushed back for graduation a whole year and I felt left out because everyone else who I started college with have graduated, but I realize that it was all meant to be a better journey because I needed that time to feel confident in the path I was on. Remember, your failures are stepping stones love.

College isn't just about the "piece of paper", it's also about the experience, starting your independence, living away to your parents, the people you meet, the life long friendships. College makes you learn so much about yourself, your strengths and weaknesses. Just about life! Not all people get a degree and get a job in that field. It creates a path that opens many doors!

Exactly. And in many fields there is simply no other way to educate yourself than go to the college. I think I understand what Mimi means, but Im very grateful for the fact that I have possibility to study at the university. It simply broadens perspectives in many different ways, and Im glad that Im not dependent only on online courses and self-help and personal development books (shortly said).

I think it depends on what you are going to study. She didn't have to get a college degree to do what she wanted. If you want to be doctor or a lawyer however, you have to go to college..
@itsmints

I think her point was more about it being a personal "failure" for her because she went there and realised it wasn't for her. As in her problem with it wasn't that college is shit for everyone but more so that it didn't fit her and her goals and aspirations. To her it would have just been a "piece of paper" because the knowledge that she needed/wanted wasn't something that she felt like she needed to go to college for, but rather to gain that knowledge elsewhere through more "real-life" situations :)

One of my biggest failure thus far happened when I stepped out of my comfort zone to apply for a job at MAC Cosmetics. I got the interview and felt good, but during the second interview, which was a makeup application test, I completely lost focus and just did poorly. Moral of the story is I didn't get the job but was very proud of myself for launching out. Thanks for sharing your failures, Mimi. Xoxo ❤️

Mimi, the last part of the video touched me at the point that I felt you were talking to me. I felt like your friend, I moved from another country to California and after 22 years here, I feel so lonely and at time felt like a failure. I have been thinking lately, that as much as I felt this place like my home, maybe is not really my place and many doors will start to open once I leave and go back to my family and country....seriously I just found your channel yesterday and I am binging on yours and hubby's videos since then. Why are you degrading our efforts by calling diplomas "a piece of paper" That paper is the validation and reference of my knowledge and efforts. you picking an option in life, doesn't make the rest of the other options invalid. It may be better not to "air quote" your failures then you mean they're not real failures.
@ciiolek1990
@ciiolek1990 8 жыл бұрын
It's a matter of your perception. To some people it is just "a piece of paper" because they are not really into the studies they do. I am now finishing my masters degree and really do not feel like it got me somewhere. I feel kind of proud of it though but still in the case of Mimi - she wanted to set up her own business and to do so you really do not have to have a degree which I know from example of my boyfriend :)
@caramelo419
@caramelo419 8 жыл бұрын
I don't think she is degrading anyone's efforts. She constantly said "I believe", "in my opinion", "this is where I stand" . Her experiences are hers and she is sharing them, you can reflect on that and take it for what it is. Many people follow a path others create their own. I am one that followed the path got my degree and work in a top 50 Fortune company and don't like it but it is what it is. I can still appreciate and admire those that took at risk and followed alternate choices.
@kalis856
@kalis856 8 жыл бұрын
She's air quoting "failure" because failure has an unexpected meaning to her, not because they aren't "real failures." Also some would say you don't need the piece of paper to validate your efforts in life! Any option is valid as long as it supports your goals.
@annagt6293

I think that your knowledge (experiences) is the important, not the object, not the "piece of paper"!! I mean..you know, you already have the knowledge, before you have to take the exam.... :))) (sorry for my english)
@SILVEto
@SILVEto 8 жыл бұрын
It's funny you think everything is about you. She is talking about HER experience and the decisions SHE made. If you are confident with your decision you will never feel that someone is attacking you or that you need to justify it. She herself went through the work so I doubt she would "degrade your efforts" as she knows very well what it's like, except she didn't get the "piece of paper".

My failures in my career path have haunted me EVEN though today I am successful in my job. For some reason I couldn't let go of my disappointment in myself. one of my failures was when I started my teeth whitening business. I was excited and invested money for my supplies and my business flopped. I wasn't dedicating as much energy into it as well as marketing strategies. I started my first small business in MaryKay, I took a leap, invested money, took my time. It's been almost a year since starting and Today was the day I shipped back all the products. I spent soo much money just to return it. I feel like a weight been lifted, but I definitely feel like I failed completely, and was embarrassed as well after talking to my family and friends over the months of how great I would do. It's gone now. You're right, onto something new.

Thank you for sharing. I recently had to admit to myself that the fashion business that I have been running for ten years wasn't the thing I wanted to do anymore. I failed to continue my business, but admitting it to yourself and taking a step to change directions in life is so incredibly liberating! Even though you're taking a jump into the unknown. After I quit my business I felt like I could breathe again. Spend time with family and friends. Pursue my passions of cooking and photography. Failing with my fashion business brought me a step closer to the person I want to be.

This video says it all. I few months ago, I decided to drop out of uni. Being there felt wrong, and I was 99% sure I had chosen the wrong career path. My friends thought I was crazy, my mother was in tears and I was a mess, because society made me think that I was a big old failure (22 with no degree... to most parisian, that equals failure). But I had to do it. The first month was terrible, I couldn't sleep, I wouldn't go out... but now, I feel so good and so free. What I did was courageous. Sure, I might not have a degree this year, but that doesn't mean that I'll never have it. I'll come back to uni in a few years if it feels like the right thing to do FOR ME. Now, I'm planning so many things, I'm working and saving money. I'm actually very happy about what life has in store for me. Next year I'm off to South America, to live in a completely different city (I live in Paris). And I just can't wait. Failures are inevitable if you live life to the fullest. You learn about you, and it's a very important step.

There have been so many failures, personal and business. I have failed over and over again. I recently went through a dark period where I was just feeling low but as I came out of it I saw the lessons in my failures. Most of my failures came from being "too optimistic" - if that's a thing - to the point where I ignored risks and created false expectations and goals without steps. I learned my lesson. Over the years I have also learned to prioritise my well-being, my goals, mind and positivity thanks to negative outcomes. Thank you for talking about this!

I have had so many failures at school especially and I believe just like you that they are a stepping stone, they are necessary :) I was in science and realized that it was not for me, then I was in business realized again it was not for me and now I am in University in a completely different program where I belong and I feel like it was necessary for me to fail in order to end up where I belong :) I know I will have many other failures in the future and I am not afraid of it I embrace them :) Such a powerful message you are awesome :)

I moved to another country to live out my dream job working with animals which ended up in a huge failure! I was well travelled, educated and cultured at this point and you know what? I really just didn't fit in. Everything from the people, to the workplace seemed a little off. I trust my self-judgement immensely and I took a step back and decided I wasn't being treated properly in the workplace, neither were the animals and this lifestyle wasn't for me! I packed up, wasted a huge amount of money and almost missed out on Christmas! But returned home just in time. I own that failure and every time I look back and think of things I perhaps would have done differently I still think 'nope that life choice was not right for me.' Great learning curve!

First, I love your positive take on this and your energy!You are right, to have failed is to have felt alive, to have taken risks, and to be stronger and wiser at the end. People that don't take chances are stagnant and like to hold others back as well... Like you said, in their comfort boxes. It is always scary to take a risk, but it is also rewarding and thrilling no matter the outcome you always learn.Second, true California can be a very lonely place, I am from Italy and live in So. California and relationships amongst friends are very very different, I love everything else, but the loneliness part is very true.I love your videos, and love love your accent!!! Hi Mimi, love this topic and how you tackled it ❤️. I'd say that my failure this year was doing poorly in my third term as a sophomore in high school. My parents had decided to move overseas with me right in the middle of my school year. I went from being a 4.1 GPA in my old school to getting average marks on material that I had taken before in this new school, even after giving it my all. Also, while being super introverted, I have failed in making new friends. Thanks for the video, super inspiring ❤️

This video is so inspiring Mimi! I have personally had so many failures throughout my education but they have made me into the person I am today and I have learned from my failures and my mistakes. I had this conversation with my dad when I failed two of my master's assignments but he reassured me that failure is the key to success. Every successful person has failed at some point within their lives and I have thankfully been given another opportunity to make my failures into a success and make myself and my parents proud. Thank you for sharing your failures Mimi

Thank you for always being so real Mimi. My failure is that I went to school thinking that I would become a veterinarian, but realized after getting an internship at an animal hospital that that absolutely wasn't what I wanted to do. I continued my education and received a Neurobiology degree and now work in the biotech industry, but I still feel like I am searching for what I am truly passionate about. All I have ever done in life is fail. I've failed hundreds of tests (literally) in school, failed to even graduate high school on time, am failing to find any job whatsoever, failing to lose any weight, failing at having any talent, and failing at achieving any of my goals and dreams. I don't know how to go on. I hate school because I have always failed at everything. I want to finish high school successfully but after that, I don't want to go to college. I want to become a business women just like you but how can a failure like me, with no brains, talent or money go anywhere in life? I've tried so hard to think positively and have lots of positive people around me, but I still can't seem to get anywhere in life.

Don't think you have no brains, that's absolutely not true. Some of us have different ways of thinking, being and learning. Me included. Just try to find what makes you happy and how you learn best. If not college then learn, read and grow on your own schedule. Good luck, you can do it!

First thing, you just successfully wrote a paragraph. That may seem laughable, but there are plenty of people who struggle to put sentences together. It was easy to understand what you were communicating. Communication is a skill/talent. That tells me that you have potential to do even better in school than you're doing. I have the same problem of a past riddled with failure, and no success (although Mimi just convinced me to reconsider. Maybe I gave up at some point or failed but look at how I initially tried and put myself out there! Now I can begin to change the way I've labeled my past and myself). I also have always referred to myself in negative ways, like you did when you said, "how can a failure like me, with no brains, talent or money go anywhere in life?" Maybe our level of success is affected by the way we think of ourselves. Tell me, how could you succeed when you don't believe you are worth anything? Successful people I've known wouldn't talk down about themselves. They believe they have something to offer. They believe they can make their life enjoyable. If they can think that way, so can we. And imagine how much harder you'll try once you believe what you want is possible! You'll be unstoppable! I could tell you that you DO have talent and endless potential, but that likely won't convince you. No one else can do it for us; WE have to change the way we think/what we do. We can't try halfway and give up on ourselves. Sending so much love your way, I know you can change the way things are going.

This is so true. I actually graduated with a bachelors degree and now I'm doing my masters. However, I'm making decent money and have great benefits off of a skill that required no college education. Skills, vocational schools, on the job learning and life experience is something that enables a person to be successful as well. No one should ever undermine the value of these things. College isn't necessarily the answer for everyone. It's a great thing but it's not the only option. Continue speaking out and being an inspiration to others. No one should feel like a failure because they didn't meet societies standards or so called norms. I admire you very, very much!

Your view on education is a bit dangerous. People considering dropping out of college are usually not the forward driven and business orientated people you and Alex are (yes, I know Alex got his degree). For most people doing poorly in school, I'd imagine that dropping out is not a good alternative. Unless you have a plan and/or are filthy rich, please finish school and get your degree.
@jeuryveloz6011
@jeuryveloz6011 8 жыл бұрын
And I realize she is talking about her own experience, but I just don't want people getting the wrong idea. It's one thing to have a goal, but don't drop out of college for a risky opportunity. If you want to start a business while in college, try and do both at the same time. If you find success in that business, drop out of college (if you really have to). If your business fails, continue in school.

I don't like how she defined some of the personal "failures". Not being able to finish school due to other priorities in life is not a "failure". Not liking what you do is not a "failure" too. Otherwise, many people would feel very pathetic. Also, aren't those that you called "business" before you started Luxy hair "jobs"? Why made it so fancy and called them "businesses"?

My reply to all those "pronounce failure" comments: I'm just wondering how do you guys pronounce "tagliatelle" or "bruschetta" ..and for those who are lucky to be born in English speaking countries, if you speak impeccable any other language. Shallow, shallow shallow, she made a list of "failures" mostly about failed businesses and how she failed in keeping her cat. I thought she was going to talk more about deep stuff, and show more deep insights about her life, like relationships, day to day challenges etc. The title of the video is misleading. Failing a business is just part of life not all. I see her as someone who wants to be famous and make money at the same time through youtube, social media, etc but is afraid to show completely how she really is, and that shows clearly.

Every failure after every try, in itself, is something to be studied and celebrated because every "no" is a step closer to your "yes." I'd rather fail, fail, fail than never try and never find out my own potential and successes. I've learned this lesson this year and your video, Mimi, is in perfect timing. Sometimes we need to hear others tell us things we already know or easily forget. And for anyone who's trying something and feeling/fighting fear in the process... I'd say you're headed in the right direction. Just as Mimi mentioned (Alex has touched on this as well in his channel), staying within your comforts only stifles and hurts you. Growth takes 'pains' and that requires new situations and challenges. Thanks again, Mimi! And everyone, good luck and just get back up after every knock-down! :D

A lot of my failures are actually me not doing what I want in fear of failure, like I still have yet to start posting videos on my KZbin channel because I'm scared people would't like it. I also almost didn't apply to Oxford because I was scared of being rejected, kind of thinking that if I never apply it can remain a dream but once I'm rejected it's all over. But then I decided that if I was rejected, I'd just find a new dream. Now I'm really really glad I applied, because I was actually accepted.
