MY FAMILY AND I REACT TO OUR GENETIC RESULTS and it was really fun! like i mentioned, i used 23andme to map my DNA and find out where my genetic make up came from. Although i knew It would say i am Ethiopian, the percentage and the combination of ancestry was rather interesting. @@niniwuwu4565 I didn't mean it to come off as a bad thing. I know some people in Ethiopia claim to have lineage from Greek, Italian, Armenian, or some other country out of Africa. While there are descendants from other countries here, most people who claim to be descendants probably aren't, and I think many of the claims originated as a twisted status symbol in the early 20th century when Armenians, Greeks, and Italians were coming to Ethiopia. I could be wrong though. But still, it was nice to see Hewan and her family and friends make light of the situation.

@@Hewan I didnt take the test, but my sister and dad did. We are mostly Irish, French, and Indian. What was most interesting is that there was also a lot of English as well. I knew we were Cherokee and Sioux, but there was also a lot of other Tribes.

I got 71% Ethiopian and Eritrean and 29% Pakistan. This makes sense for me and confirms my fathers history, because on my father’s side, his grandfather’s great great great grandfather was a horseman from the Ottoman Empire. Legend has it, he was supposed to be executed for reasons we will never know, but he somehow deserted the empire and traveled down the Nile from Egypt, became a farmer and lived the rest of his days in Abyssinia.

This test just confirms what you already know, and it's a good thing. You match very well the reference population "Ethiopian and Eritrean" which means it's very unlikely you have any foreign ancestry in the recent past. On a deeper level of ancestry, you are probably around (simplified) 50% Paleolithic East African and 50% Eurasian, like most Eritreans and Semitic Ethiopians. Most of the Eurasian ancestry comes from Neolithic Pastoralists migrating from the North (Egypt/Sudan area) with Afroasiatic languages (Cushitic), and a minority came with Semitic languages from Arabia 3000 years ago.

People should understand that sub-saharan Africa has all types of people. The horn Africans, Khoisan and certain groups in West Africa has light brown skin, while most sub Saharan Africans have medium brown to dark brown skin. The only sub-saharan Africans with real bluish black skin is certain groups in West Africa(esp Senegal), the nilotic people and so on. There are darker skinned people outside Africa like Negritos and Andamanese of southeast Asia, full blooded aboriginal Australians, etc

It was updated in jan 2020, if you did before Jan 2020 you will have the old verision results and the updated verision result. Also 23andme specifically goes back as far as 1700 only. If you take companies that goes back 1000s of years back like ftdna and Myheritage you will get mixed results.

You only inherit half of your mothers DNA and half of your fathers DNA. Your siblings DNA can be completely different. They should test also to see how theirs varies or doesn’t vary. They could have Greek in them if they inherited the other half of your parents DNA providing the family story is true.

There are some serious problems with these DNA test. Earlier results from this platform showed admixture for East African populations; now as they have come to realize this admixture is normative they have shifted and just lumped the admixture together for their Ethiopian/ Eritrean, Somali or Sudanese. If you take a different test from other platforms than ancestry and 23 and me you will probably get better idea about admixture. You can upload your DNA free at GED match.

Hmm so my bf and I did our ancestry test like last year with another company (I’ll dm you) that apparently is more catered to people of African and Asian heritage i.e. they probably have more group of DNA strains from that particular group to compare yours with, if that makes sense haha.. always ensure that you do your research to make sure you go with a company that caters more for “our group”😅, you feel me? Cause we got such detailed breakdown of both our ancestry and some of our results were kind of shocking haha (message me and I’ll show u mine )

I've done most of them. 23andMe seems to be the most accurate today. They have really updated their sample populations. Especially for Africa. But you can download your raw results from 23andMe and upload them for free to MyHeritage.com You'll get their ethnicity estimate and matches but you won't get access to many of their genealogical tools without paying subscription. On GedMatch.com you can use quite a few different Admixture dests that will give you more of your deep ancestry... that would probably include the middle east and North Africa and other African regions in your case. I highly recommend downloading your raw data and uploading them to those sites to make the most of your test. LivingDNA is also another one. But for that one you have to pay ca. 30$ to get the ethnicity results. Same with Family Tree DNA. Great video by the way

Sis I am a somali from Dire Dawa and I assure you if I take my DNA it will come back as an 50%somali 40%Ethiopian and 10%Eritrean ... etc do you know why? Cause somali is an ethnic where Ethiopia and Eritrean are nation meaning a mix of different ethnic groups. Unless the test is specificly saying you are % of Tigre or Amhara or Afar...etc I keep telling people Ethiopia or Eritrea is not an ethnic like somali or somalia. Even for somalis when there test comes back 30 Ethiopian it doesn't mean anything apart from saying possible you are of somali from Ethiopia. Unless of course it says the ethnic or at least the region just the same way your father. By the way your sisters look like my kids with the forehead an everything 😂. Fact, Eritrea, Afar, Hara4, Djibouti, somali region and Somaliland were all once under one sultante from the time of walashma, Makhzumi, ifat and later on Adel sultanate.
