I grew up with meatless tostadas. Meat was reserved for special occasions cause we couldn’t afford meat. We had to go to the government commodity lines (aka the cheese line). We would get blocks of American processes cheese that was perfect for melting on a tostada and made for a perfect grilled cheese. But we always had beans and rice around. So mom would buy day old corn tortillas from the local Mexican market cause they were half the price but they crisped up so nicely. I still make my own tostadas the same way, no meat. Tostada Beans Cheese Lettuce Tomatoes Fresh yellow diced onion Drizzle of thinned out Greek yogurt Fresh sliced avocado

Rachel I just love your not using any utensils to make your tostadas! That’s how we always did it. Since I married a gringo I’m the only one who doesn’t use a fork when I cook at home or go out to eat at a Mexican restaurant! Lol I love you my friend.

Perfect, ladies! Tostadas are one of my favorite Mexican dishes, because they can be tailored in so many different manners. And if they're not messy to eat, you didn't do it right! Looks yummy! Sometimes I sprinkle Garlic Salt & Grated Parmessan Cheese on the tostadas when I'm frying them (when they're almost done, 1 side only). Adds a nice flavor to them. Can also do on tacos

Rachel thanks so much for this video. I am trying to eat healthier and I think tostadas is the key for being able to eat a healthy delicious meal. I tried hard shell tacos and they are too much trouble. For the tostadas to be healthy I think that I will pick the healthier store bought tortillas and bake the tortillas instead of frying them. I am very good at cooking refried beans made from scratch. The tostadas will be so much easier than tacos. Once again thanks.

No matter what, my mom always had beans on the stove, either mashed or whole. Tostadas were our favorite and all of the neighborhood kids would come over for her tostadas. 🤗

The green ones we used in this video are crocheted and they were a gift from my mom, I have several and love them all... my silicone ones are by Le creuset, but the crocheted ones are my favorite because they are softer and easier to work with. Thank you my friend, blessings to you.❤
