This! Wear whatever style and shape you like. Jean Sykes are so individual and what looks good on one body type might not always fit that well on another. Some people have long legs, some have short, some people have wide hips and thighs, some people have more straight legs. No style of jeans will fit well or sit comfortably on every body and there shouldn’t be such a pressure to fit into one trending style of jeans. For me I have wide hips and thighs with a smaller waist which means I struggle finding high rise jeans that don’t gap at my waist, I have shorter legs which means a lot of the wide leg jeans completely drown me out and I end up stepping on them because they’re too long and wide. I don’t have anything against high rise baggy jeans, they’re just not made for my body type so I choose to wear jeans that actually fit comfortably and flatter my body. I think that’s what everyone should focus on, to find something that works for their body instead of trying to make their body work for the Jean trend.

My personal style is all of the styles whenever and wherever I want. I have neutrals and colors, patterns and solids, classics and trends. I used to struggle over it because I felt like I lacked a style identity, but I realized that the fact that you never know what I'll be wearing next IS the thing. Sometimes I will look like a librarian and sometimes like a biker and sometimes like a gypsy fortune teller. And as long as I like what I have on that day, I don't have to care about anyone else. I'm almost 60 now, and I've been this way most of my life, but now I'm accepting it and embracing it to the fullest.

I LOVE having a spring/summer and fall/winter wardrobe (of course, there are pieces that stay in no matter what), and it feels like having brand new clothes every time! It seriously stops me from shopping each season.

You feel the EXACT same way about skinny jeans as I do. No jean style should be a trend in this "all or nothing" way we've seen. I'm currently into many styles - flares, straight leg, wide leg, mom jeans, and yes, skinny jeans, too. They all have a purpose in my wardrobe. With skinny jeans it's when I want to show off my boots. Or when want to wear a more oversized top (I look bad in baggy on baggy). The only gripe I have with them is that they don't last at all, they always tear/rip faster than other types. I'm down for them becoming trendy again if that means improvement in quality.

I do agree with polyester materials back then verse now is so different because I have a few 100% polyester items that are vintage verses some that are current and they definitely feel different. Also for thrifting vlogs, I just don't watch them as much anymore because it triggers the need to go out and buy stuff even though I don't need to. I'll do it as an outing with friends because its more of a fun activity but it would nice to see a more realistic depiction of a thrift shopping day where you really only end up buying 1 item or non at all. Also I absolutely agree with you on tik tok shop because I was almost influenced on buying a jacket on tik tok shop that was selling it for like 20 bucks only to find out that the original business that made it is so much more sustainable and made from natural materials but it cost like 200 dollars but I'm willing to wait till im more financially ready to make such a big purchase like that because I know I'll cherish that piece of clothing forever.

I actually love archiving pieces. My weight fluctuates a lot so I haven't had to buy a whole new wardrobe when it changes because I can grab what I saved from previous times. In 8th grade my grandma gave me a pair of her jeans which didn't fit me, I put them in the back of my closet, then found them in college when they fit. I got a good two years out of them and I'm saving them for when they fit again, though they need repairs. My pants from highschool have done a similar cycle of fitting, not fitting, and fitting again. Maybe I'm holding on to too many things but I think it's worth it to not have to rebuy pants. I think it can depend on the style and quality of them though. Most of my skinny jeans are long gone

I definitely think we have the tendency to put ourselves in boxes when it's absolurely unnecessary. Does your style REALLY have to be defined by some -core or some label other than being labeled as your own? Me personally I wear a mixture of goth+grunge+modern fashion, unironically precisely those 3 styles mixed together is how you get to mine. And what can I call that except uniquely my own? Many people wear a mix of things at the end of the day cos you pull elements from different styles that you like, you never really fully copy or embody one style. Some people do, but most don't really.

You're not always going to strike gold, it's the nature of the game, and I find the more I left myself purchase 'maybes' or items that I don't LOVE, the less excited it makes me when I actually do find that 10/10 piece to buy.

I have a couple watches with both gold and silver and it sort of pulls the other pieces together. As for not wearing something outlandish or goofy, there are times when this rule should be observed: a funeral, a wedding or an important job interview unless the recently deceased, the bride or the person hiring you has requested it. (And if it was the boss, I might be a little dubious about the job) 🤔 The colour of an outfit is so tedious. Each person needs to wear what they enjoy and feel good in. And as for camo prints...I still think of someone's old weird uncle with a beer drinking pot belly and bad BO who is probably sitting on a broken down porch since his ankle monitor won't let him leave his own yard. And never feel like you have to buy something just to make someone else happy! You earn your own money and spend it how you want! Thanks for the fun video to watch this morning. 😊 You make my day!

Thanks for reminding me to wear my non-black tights more. I like my plain burgundy and white floral tights but it really depends on the Vibe i wanna go with to grocery store at 8am

I'm totally in support of ALLLL the thrift with me's where you don't feel pressure to buy anything at all! That being said, I want to let you know that I also fully support you buying something that you love and not just leaving it behind because you made "not buying anything" a goal 🤗 Like I basically fully support you getting absolutely nothing or several things! I love watching your thrift with me videos because I just get to experience going to the thrift store with a friend. I can't go nearly as much as I would like in person because I would spend so much money that I don't have haha...

lol the moment I heard "skinny jeans", I was gonna comment that where I live (small eastern european country), skinny jeans never went away, but then you qualified that people do wear them lol I'm personally over them at this moment, but then I also thought I'm a total high-rise person but then I found these amazing jeans in a thrift store and they're mid-rise and I'm in love xD I also totally agree that sometimes it's good to keep things you may not be wearing at the moment, but you may return to them a couple years later.

Such a great video, Alexa! And as a (almost) 49 year old (!) who always encourages women my age to wear what they want to wear, I loved that you championed the same thing! Brilliant! And yes, here's to skinny jeans coming back...although I never stopped. Plus, I've been a camo girl all my life lol!! xx

An idea similar to the archive is doing a clothing swap with friends or family. Maybe swap some clothes with someone of a similar size for a season so everyone involved gets a refresh without spending money.

I've been thinking of sewing myself some skinny jeans! I was SO glad when the trend cycle moved on, but there's something about the uninterrupted silhouette of skinny jeans to a high heel or boot, especially pointed-toe, that looks so sleek. In terms of tucking into tall boots they're also just more practical! They can be better for cold weather too. I want to get into colourful tights so I think I'll take this as advice to dip my toes in first. Burgundy to me is like navy, basically a neutral. I think I'll try that first.

I alternated between bangs and growing out my bangs until my mid twenties and then I decided never again cutting bangs. I hated the upkeep, I hated growing them out. I'm glad I finally know how I like my hair best, so much easier never having bangs.

Knowing that the influencer girlies of LA are making that particular camo trendy is hilarious considering that it’s the same camo that every hunter I know has worn for deer hunting year after year out here in rural Wisconsin 😂

I'm 38 and I never have felt 38. I love wearing what I want to wear because I want to wear it! I guess it helps set my face card always reads 25:26 but I've been trying to impart this to my mother as well who is in her 50s. Dress for you! There's no rules saying you have to wear a certain thing because you are a mother / a grandmother, or a corporate executive unless you have a dress code... But you know what I mean. One of my favorite things to watch are videos where thrifters style other people, and you have great personal style so I'd love to see you nail someone else's style and style them. Or, as a video idea, I would love to see you get your pile of stuff that needs to be fixed mended!

I get what that woman was saying to you. I love kitschy and cute sweaters but I’m at age where I worry that I just look frumpy instead of fashionable.

For sure! I totally get where she was coming from, but she would have also looked amazing in my outfit I think 😭😭
@teresacarle2942 ай бұрын
🥺Sadly, big breasted girls can easily lean into the Frump Factor😱〰️esp. w/bulky sweaters, boxy blazers, & more modest attire. 😖Personally, I hate exposing cleavage, so I prefer a higher neck. 😊My "sexy" is exposed shoulders or maybe a peek-a-boo collarbone. 😉Plus, I'd rather go more voluminous on bottom & body skimming on top. Tapered, tight trousers, & leggings only emphasize my hip width V😂. 💗Love cutesy & ultra feminine attire that speaks to my inner 🎀Disney princess, but I was blessed w/an abundant womanly shape. Looking girlish suits my personality, but it doesn't always jive w/the curves🤣. ⏳️As an hourglass, it's tricky to find balance⚖️ between matronly👵 & bombshell👄. Keeping a playful spirit is important, but I also like to be seen as trustworthy. 🤍Still adore slightly slouchy boyish gear🧢, but too 👔tailored👖 masculine attire feels like a straight jacket😕. A classic button down only suits me ¹wrapped & tucked, ²knotted & open, or ³undone as a light topper layer. Otherwise, having to size up to button stress free & lay properly over hips leaves too much extra bulk around my short waisted middle🙄. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)

I'd much prefer to watch a thrift with me where you find one item you love than a shit load of items you don't just purely to make a video. It's much more realistic to those who thrift and also the whole point of slow fashion is to go on the hunt! Sometimes you find stuff, sometimes you don't. Keep being a ray of sunshine Alexa!
@coolchameleon212 ай бұрын
i still wear skinny jeans and skinny leggings, sometimes they’re just more practical because you can tuck them into shoes. also, i was a 2010s tumblr emo and i still wear the uniform in cold weather (skinny jeans, flannel, t shirt, and combat boots) lol

I'll be 26 in March, which is soon, and I'm stressing already about how I dress and my age. I like to wear cute items/patterns etc that are generally seen as "childish" / "young" but I just like cute, fun stuff! Now it's still maybe seen by others as fine because, like you said, "I'm young" but as I approach 30 and I don't see my preferences changing any time soon, I worry about the negative comments. But seeing you be so confident about what you like/wear, I want to learn more of that myself too.

on the tights thing - i’ve been SO back into tights (since early 2010’s) but i’m trying to be practical/smart about it. i got some cheap black tights just to see how i am with them before delving into a sea of colors and patterns. i’ve quickly learned i have to wear them a certain way and for certain times due to sensory issues (i’m autistic), i have literally cut the toe seams off them because i cannot do them with socks on top. so i’m trying to find ones i’ll actually wear - probably footless, and only in colors i’ll actually get use of (i’ll mainly wear black, green, brown, or red tights and maybe only very specific patterns). but i’m so glad i’ve gotten back into them, they add such a cute pop of personality and color, as well as practicality too in colder climates. i really feel like i’m getting (slightly) back into my early 2010’s style mixed with my style now and i’m honestly so happy
