I gotta say, I love this format. I know it is just for AwShux and because we can 'preview' in person, but I kinda wish it was a regular thing. Quick fast preview. And they say its not a review but you still get a sense that they (the SU&SD team) like these games when they do in fact like them.

I've played dwellings of eldervale, and its currently one of my top 5 games, its a blast, with a ton of replayability. My only criticism is that it ends to quickly. Oh, and I heavily recommend buying the most expensive edition if you like nice board games, having all of your monsters roar when you put them down (or hit the table out of frustration when a plan falls through) is endlessly hilarious.
@d.aardent93823 жыл бұрын
These preview shows are great btw! You showed Merchants of the dark road, and ive been trying to remember what the heck the title if it was for couple of weeks as i thought it looked kinda interesting back couple months ago, but then it had been so long i couldn't recall what it was, so that was a handy coincidence. Cryo maaaybe i might also consider. Brew im just a blank on, i have to go study more info and play of it because i just am not sure what all is going on in that, as it looked like a lot of things, but just clueless as to story and purpose. It looks nice.

The idea of "My Fathers Work" is really cool and I hope its good but with 3 scenarios, an app, a silly number of components and a heavy narrative focus it just feels like theirs so many ways it could go wrong especially as a kickstarter. @MathewAlden3 жыл бұрын
Like, "interesting".
@Liam3Bucks3 жыл бұрын
"Crunchy" often means that a game involves lots of interesting decisions.
@goodlookingcorpse3 жыл бұрын
According to ludobits: 1. Using or describing a game system based on detailed simulations or narratives that require a significant amount of rules, data and procedures, especially in role-playing games. 2. Containing a minimal amount of thematic or flavor elements that have no impact on gameplay. According to an answer on the boardgames subreddit: It's from "number crunching". A crunchy game is a game that involves complex decision making with many moving parts, or that requires a lot of math, or one that demands players have a deep understanding of the intricacies of the rules and how to make them work to their benefit in order to win. Games that reward analysis, planning and calculation tend to be called crunchy, as opposed to games that reward intuition, responsiveness and initiative. It can also just mean a game where the primary appeal of the game is its rules and how mechanically cohesive it is, as opposed to its flavor.
@ctrosejr3 жыл бұрын
@@goodlookingcorpse That’s interesting. There is no single accepted definition of these gaming terms, so it’s all valid. But, I don’t think of “crunch” as having to do with mechanics. I think of crunch as having to do with the level of difficulty of decision making. The more variables or trade-offs to consider, the crunchier.

Why is Shinjuku called Shinjuku? O_o
@kowmap3 жыл бұрын
Shinjuku (the game) is set in Tokyo and Shinjuku (the train station in Tokyo) is the busiest passenger train station in the world. Multiple large (>10 story) department stores sit on top of Shinjuku station, many of which are owned by the train companies themselves. This mixture of rail companies owning department stores found in Shinjuku (and in other stations in Tokyo) was the inspiration for the game.
