Hi everyone! You know what time it is: it's Wonder Fest...or Wonhobby, or Koto Collection...or...honestly I have no idea. With the splintering of Wonder Festival into a bunch of mini-events, I decided to make a video talking about my favourite and least favourite announcements from the February Figure Festivals! Watch me gush about some exciting new releases and rant about some questionable others (namely Pop Up Parade XL). Ugh I agree about the pop up parade xl figures. The only positive thing about this is that the pop up parade line makes figures of characters that don't often get figures with other manufacturers. The ONLY way I could see myself getting one of the larger ones is if it were of a character I love that doesn't have any other figures available. But that seems unlikely with their launch announcements being major franchises.

Yes, I would recommend Into the Spider-Verse, even if you’re not a gigantic Spider-Man fan. I was blown away by how fresh and unapologetically celebratory they were about the character and it’s roots. Awesome voice casting and hot take: I like it better than No Way Home. Also to be specific, Miles is Afro-Latino. His mother is Hispanic

I agree with your rant on PUP figures! I bought the black rock shooter and dead master ones and even though they're some of the better PUPs, I was still underwhelmed... and bought the 1/8th scale dead master's PUP is based off and this 10 years (!) old scale is awesome

Honestly estream is coming for my wallet 😂 I'll be buying all those JJK scales if they look good painted! There were also a couple demon Slayer ones I love! And haikyuu nendos were amazing too, loved seeing those. Also the dazai announcement, cannot wait to see his figure, it's going to be 🔥🔥 I also loved the AoT nendos, wasn't expecting that at all. Overall the jjk scales were the highlight for me and the most hype for me, a lot of the other companies were a bit of a let down to be honest 😅

Holy hell I had no idea the PUP XL were ¥23k until watching this, I was hoping they’d be kinda like the asuka and rei 1/4 ichibankujis in terms of price Thats full on FREEing 1/4th bunny money right there! Considering how hit or miss PUPs are in general I have no idea what gsc was thinking with the pricing on these figs I hope they may reconsider the ¥23k price tag if enough people say something about it its completely outrageous lol

As a fairytail fan I can assure you that I don't want those overpriced 1/4 PUP quality figures. I just want a scale of Erza. The L sized Guts figure tho is great! Finally an affordable Berserk figure. Hololive has also been coming with lots of great figures and Estream definitely made the most exciting announcements

I hype for the new Radio Eva line. They look amazing can't wait to have them all together. I agree with you on the Pop Up rant. I don't see anyone really buy bigger versions of smaller figures. They really got to up the quality. The price also is a bit much.

Yeah, I'm definitely confused as why they're doing this with PUP figures. I have a few PUP myself and I like them, but let's be real, no one is going to spend that kind of money for PUP (unless it's the only existing figure of a character, which would be the only reason that would make sense to me). I would rather spend that money on an actual scale.

I actually got really excited about a lot of the announcements but I think that is because we got a lot of anime boys this year and I love me some anime boys. I am super hyped for the sasaki and miyano nendoroids and the Mutsunokami scale from Touken Ranbu is finally painted and I think he may be the best of the TouRan scale line, so those of us in that fandom were finally fed after that line was stalled for so long. It is definitely great to see non-shonen boy figures, even if the shonen boys are still dominating the announcements.

For me, my favourite announcements were ATLUS-based: Makoto Persona 3 Nendoroid, Tatsuya & Maya Persona 2 Nendoroids, Raidou Kuzunoha Figma announcements and a painted update of Demi-Fiend Figma from SMT3. Also, Metroid Dread Samus and Tarnished (Elden Ring) Figmas were very welcome surprises as well!

I totally agree about how mid the announcements were. My wallet is so grateful though. 🙏 I am in LOVE with the Kaworu and Rei radio eva 2 prototypes. The Radio Eva 2 Asuka is the first scale figure I ever ordered. And it opened the door to dragging me into this hobby. 😅Will also instant PO the Miku with Solwa, regardless of price. That painted prototype completely sold it. So many great textures and shapes. I'm here for the nendoroid announcements tho...especially Yatora Yaguchi, Marin, Junko, and the 3 Undertale nendos. Might even grab the Sasaki to Miyano and the Hades nendos, too. Nice to get so many male figures announced, and some LGBTQ representation in nendoroid character choices!

I was pretty interested in Estream and Spiritale's announcements! I'm specifically keeping an eye on Estream's Cardcaptor Sakura and Inumaki Toge, and Spiritale's Mai Sakurajima and royal Miku illustration (I was hoping to see their Toga painted since they painted the other BNHA girl but I guess they need more time)! It’s kind of funny since these two manufacturers are controversial, but they honestly have some really creative designs that I'm willing to purchase.

I totally agree about the pop up parade XL, when I got some of the figures I was soooo disappointed by the bases! Most of them are really ugly and it's pity because the figure is often beautiful but the base... horrible. I would never spend that much money on the XL ones especially if they keep the same base u_u

I've always wanted a Dazai figure but the ones that have been released have either been "meh" for me or the aftermarket prices are too high. I'm so glad hes still getting more stuff! the price for the XL is absolutely ridiculous considering it's just a blown up pop up parade. you could get a nice 1/4 scale for that. 10k-15k would be much more fair

They actually announced a lot of stuff im super excited for like the elizabeth and kaede bunnies, as well as the saber astolfo bunny by koto. The pup xls were exciting but also too expensive imo. I guess it depends who they make, so we will see.

My top faves were probably the Persona 2 and 3 Nendoroids, the Elaina nendoroid, the Ryza and Klaudia Chinese dress (hopefully double) figure(s), and mostly the rest were just painted sculpts of previous announcements (Lucy Nendoroid, Nia from XC2, etc.)

I agree with you 100% about the issue with Pop-Up XL figures. The L ones could turn out decent if the bigger size also means more work put into details. Other than that... I don't know. Also not gonna lie, Kotobukiya actually had my favourite announcement of all the "festivals" 😂

I agree on the PUP fiasco and I have quite of them too and they are quite a hit or miss with the quality (I’m picky with the ones I buy). I won’t be buying any XL versions and they crazy to think will…🤨. If and I mean IF decide to get try getting a large version it better look as good as a scale and be a character I really want that has little to no scales available. Ps and I want a better base too!! 😂

Agree on the XL Pop Ups. The L line is interesting, but they should have just done clear circular bases for the Pop Up line and it would have been a better, cheaper choice. I'm also hype for the many Holos coming out too.

For the most part I agree with you about the announcements being kind of meh. There's not much that interested me either. When you mentioned the Nurse Datenshi-chan figure, I wondered if you had seen the SkyTube Tenshi-chan release on Amiami? She's part of the Feb 16th updates. Generous figure, wings, cute expression, reddish-blonde hair. I'm totally tempted to get her.

I’m really excited for the Sasaki to Miyano nendoroids and the Radio Eva figures! I am absolutely getting the Radio Eva figures in the greyscale (I’ve already POd Asuka 😍😍) I’m also excited for the childhood Wei Wuxian figure from MDZS by Good Smile Shanghai. I agree with you that these announcements were kinda lukewarm to me

My guess is Good Smile is trying to make the most money possible with the L and XL pop up parades. GSC puts effort into marketing like no other company in the industry, from what I've observed. Their nendoroid line basically asks for you to buy not only one nendoroid, but one of each character you like. Pop up parades do the same, which is why despite the unpopular bases and smaller than ideal scale, GSC continues to make them uniform with past PUPs. I'm guessing creating one XL PUP would take less effort than creating ~5 normal sized PUPs and they may spend only slightly more on the material costs. I think Good Smile's goal is to create brand loyalty, so price ultimately does not matter as long as there are people who trust their results and they succeed in marketing something as more valuable than it actually is. Unfortunately they probably will succeed, as PUPs aim at the casual collector who may not realize there are better alternatives out there.

I fully agree with your rant about the XL pop up parades figures, but then I got to thinking what if they later on make that Holo pop up into an XL would I buy it? and yeah I would lol, but in my defense it's Holo lol. I was pretty excited about Umamusme getting some love. Also there was a few Mikus I loved but idk if I'll buy lol. Obviously my main excitement from the announcements was all the Holo figures lol.

I will say I do like the two pop up parades I have. Princess Sakuna and Elizabeth from seven deadly sin. But when I compare them to others I definitely see the quality difference. And I definitely would not buy a large or extra large of these figures when I can go buy me a bunny.

For the XL line, i thought it would be something like the ichiban asuka and rei set cus THAT is 1/4 and prize figure level of pricing?! Damnnnnn. But i do know that the bigger the scale, the more obvious the lack of details could be seen on the figures, but if the price is set to be low, thats a expected kind of purchase so we should just get it with that in mind. BUT I DIDN'T THINK ITS 23,000 YEN+?! might as well just say theyre making scales seesh

I am happy that there wasn't too many that I really liked to save my wallet but I am looking forward to holo spice and Wolf, Ots14 1/4, and marin kitagawa estream and nendoroid. I personally love the idea of XL PUP. I love collecting big 1/4 scale but not a huge fan of bunnies. I love some characters in bunnies but what I really want is more affordable 1/4 of characters in their Original outfit. If you look closely, they have edited the design and sculpture of the XL compare to their original counterparts and hopefully it will translate to better coloring and final product. I would be ecstatic if the price was bit lower but I will see my impressions after their colored prototype.

I agree with your comments about PUP XL. Fix your regular PUP line first before you announce larger PUP sizes. And yeah I buy scales and I assume PUP XL will be around same quality as a PUP. I don't have an incentive to buy those when I can buy goof quality scales.

Pop Up Parades XL, one of the WORST IDEAS EVER! What's the point of them exactly? I personally loved these recent announcements because most of em I never expected; like them Kotobukiya Bishoujo scales are straight heat and my jaw definitely dropped hard after seeing those Persona 2 Nendoroids which are instant preorders. Other than that, great vid as usual and these always make my day fersure!

I think the PUP XLs are for people who want 1/4 figures but don't want bunnies. I don't like bunnies myself, but for 23k I'd rather go for a good 1/7 than a bad 1/4. Unfortunately, there aren't too many choices at that size, so they'll probably get away with it.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nia 1/7 and Nezuko 1/8 were pretty cool, Nia is probably a grail so I'm not too disappointed. There wasn't much else though I can't lie.

Like you I was a bit disappointed with the WF/WH35 etc and this is reflected in the figures I’ve earmarked for preordering. I’m so looking forward to the Komi and Marin nendos although I was hoping for scales as well. I’m happy for a Shizuku-tan (Marin’s eroge cosplay alter ego) scale and I don’t mind paying the typical estream prices as long as it looks good (and does not include a train… you know who I’m talkin about) - here’s hoping to see at least an unpainted prototype in the spring fes. As for the PuP XL debacle, another fear is that the 1/4 scale merely be a scaled up version of a normal PuP, warts and all. If it was 12kJPY prolly fair enough… but for a 23kJPY figure i’d add a few more yen and get me a FREEing bunny. And so agree with the sentiment that this may make FREEing and BINDing figures increase in price, and it’s bad enough as it is atm… 😅

I think the only way that GoodSmiles would make me to spend money on their L/XL lines is with their XL titans figure or L Guts. Since there are close to no figures of those, especially the titans figure

There's a tragic gap between the shirt and belt on the A-Z F01 prototype that you can see in the pictures they released. Hopefully that's not the case with the final product, but it has me pretty hesitant to order it.

I have to say i like the idea of pop up parades, like, they're better than a prize but not as good as a scale and are cheaper than scales, but i agree that the pop up xl is weird, they're trying to imitate scales way too much when pop ups are supposed to be their own thing between scales and prizes

Honestly, I want 1/4 male figures but I don't think Freeing will do alot of males so this pop up parade xl line might be I best bet. But the 23k price hurts through😢
