Bravo and very well said- thanks for sharing some of your stories! My number 1 has some parallels to yours perhaps.. playing War of the Ring with my dad recently. One of my all time memories is watching Lord of the Rings with dad so it’s always great going back to that world. But in this game my dad was the shadow and had almost defeated the free people’s… he only had to take one more stronghold at Lorien. I thought hope was lost but Pippin was near Edoras and could just get to the elves in time- with some special combat cards that Pippin could use he and a few elves held a huge army at bay. They gave Frodo the time he needed to destroy the ring and I won the game. We were both blown away by the ending and the story, it was so cool that Pippin was the big hero! I will remember that game for a long time

Those are the memories that will stick with you an entire lifetime! It’s amazing to thing that a board along with a few cards could create moments like the one you shared with your dad. That was a great memory and thank you for sharing your favorite moment!

I've had many moments while playing solo, from intense satisfaction to true anger. But the best memories are definitely with my son, like the first time he erased the whole board with Boomer in a Too Many Bones boss fight after careful calculations, leaving me in awe. Or a terrible turn of events when I had the victory in my coming turn in Outer Rim, and he pulled a card allowing him to double the rewards of something and outright steal the victory under my nose. Or those many many fights in Exceed where we're both so low in HP that a good reading of what the other is thinking is assured victory. And the other way around...

Hold on to those moments! There’s nothing better than sharing moments like those with your son. I’m not sure how to kid your son is but when he gets older, those moments will be like gold for you. It’s really nice to hear about the moments you’ve shared with your son at the table! Also, there’s a special satisfaction and being bested by none other than your own son! Like the saying goes, the teacher becomes the student.

Thank you! The only thing of Bloodborne I know, comes from the video game. The lore in that game is phenomenal and although the story is not told through conventional means, the world, the atmosphere and small details do marvels when it comes to the storytelling. I’m pretty sure the board game is no different. Watching movies based on the books I would read made me realize just how much better the books were when compared to movies. You get a more intimate look into the characters, their personalities and bonds throughout hundreds of pages. It’s is rare when a movie can capture the detail written within the pages of a book and portray them on the big screen within 2 hours. Now board games come into the equation and the immersion has now been magnified. We get to make the decisions and have direct control of the outcome and in many cases, the direction in which to story goes. This is a phenomenal entertainment medium!

Lovely video. For me, finding hoplomachus victorum and playing it almost daily for the past 3 months has been the clincher. It's surpassed many other solo games I've played and hooked me like no other. I've a had a sense of that feeling fleetingly with other games, but this knocks them out of the park

Funkoverse punches way above its weight class, no shame in having fun with a fun game. If I had not gone all in on Unmatched I'd be down for other games in that subgenre like Funkoverse, the Dragon Prince Battlecharged game (love that IP), Disneys Sorcerers Arena. I'm also a solo player most of the time but I hold out for the day I find someone that loves the Unmatched system as much as I do in my area. Currently Set a Watch and Bullet Star are the games that give me the 'oh, so close' moments that I enjoy in solo games.

I know that feeling Zdelorean. It’s funny because if anyone of us lived close to each other, there would be many board game nights that would take place as a group. Like you, I’d get games like that played more often if only someone would be willing to give board games a try. Unfortunately, no one in my circle is into board games. Thankfully, solo board games exist and because of that, we get to enjoy so many great moments! This is a severely underrated hobby. If only more people around us gave it a chance, there would be so many great moments that can be shared at the table. It’s always nice to see you stop by!

I was lying on a sun lounger on holiday, my partner worshiping the sun listening to her music, me, bored already, only satiating it by reading about video games, stumbled upon an article about board games. By the end of that week I had watched hundreds of videos, completed BGG and was deeply enthralled in the adventures of Ricky Royal and his Mage Knight. I couldn’t wait to get off that beach and get home as I had a shiny new copy of Mage Knight waiting for me. The rest is history. Best gaming memory - the first time I prevailed against the Red Dice Of Death and won my first game of Space Hulk: Death Angel. For a while I thought that day would never come. Also, great vid man!

Mage Knight is a fantastic starting point for those that are willing to put in the time and effort to learn. That was my 3rd board game and from that point forward, I knew I was going to be in this hobby for the long run. Like you wrote about Space Hulk, even when a game is destroying us, there’s nothing better than the moment those challenges are overcome! Thanks for sharing your story!

Oh my most memorable solo board game moment (so far) was playing Final Girl for the FIRST TIME and then made all my moves and card choices based on all the turn based strategy type games I have played, and experiencing amazing events and ups and downs throughout the game, then it came down to the wire, both Laurie and Hans were down to their final little bits of health, and I had to flip the heart token for Hans to see the final results…… and he died!!! Hahahaha!!! Won the very first game. I was like watching and playing an epic survival horror movie.

You just described the rush that Final Girl offers. That’s a game that just keeps giving. There are some people that don’t like the challenge and randomness of FG. For those of us that accept it with open arms, we know what that game is capable of providing, pure exciting adrenaline-filled rush! Great game!

@@soloflo Agreed. Although there is a lot of randomness, your actions truly matter. There are ways to better your odds and it’s so important to know when to do so and when not to. The way each game changes the mechanics never gets old. Then comes the mixing and matching and it turns the game into something truly special.
