Kallen did initially but was convinced otherwise by Lelouch's trick. Suzaku suspected him all along but refused to believe it. Nunally had an inkling all along that her big brother was up to something, but it is arguable that she didn't know he was Zero. And his parents knew. Charles found out at some point before Euphie's massacre (through unknown means) and it is implied that Marianne was told by CC.

@@dontaejones7419 Charles stated at some point in the Ragnarok Connection in R1 he spoke with Clovis after his death (when his royal guard appeared to inform him that Clovis' corps arrived in the Britannian Homeland), implying before he obtained V.V.s code he had a connection to Cs World where Clovis' soul was present after his death, so I can state with confidence that Clovis told Charles Lelouch killed him as an act of declaration of war against Britannia and when Zero first popped up Charles put two and two together. I'd even argue Marianne always known (meaning C.C. wouldn't have told her) giving her connection to C.C. since I doubt she wouldn't have known her son obtained Geass when he first got it.

First by pinning his location to japan and even the exact city itselt and finding out that he has to be a student,afterwards deducing that he has access to police information and narrowing Kira down to the close circle of Soichiro Yagami and that other chief,at most 10 people together with Light. On top of that,Light already has this smart and suspicious aura. He kept falling into these traps by underestimating L and thinking he could confuse him,but it didnt work. L for example immidiately noticed that Light aka Kira was killing criminals every hour by using the death note time function in order to make the student theory invalid,L didnt think that way though,he instead deduced,that Kira was trying to make him think that and more that he has both access to police information(kira knew a student was suspected,only police knew) and a way to kill independent of time. It was unfortunate,but i wouldnt say light was necessarily an idiot and he showed his genius especially in those pressure scenes,where others would have easily succumbed.

I always felt the reason he didn't issue orders like "do as I say from now" was because he, at first, didn't intend to make people he uses Geass on into slaves (a sort of moral thing). But you can clearly see that as he gets more desperate towards the end of season 2, he starts doing exactly that. And no, I don't understimate Geass - I admitted that it makes Lelouch's life easier. However, I think Lelouch's success comes form his intelligence as much as his Geass, maybe more.

Desperate is the wrong word to use. Lelouch can get desperate, but he generally formulates a plan and outd it into action. Taking complete control of the guards there only makes sense, as none would listen to him otherwise. And letting any of them break control would basically lead to a spiral of failures. It was more of necessity than desperation.

I personally believe that he could have still overthrew or damaged Britannia himself without Geass. As stated in Episode 1 right after he got his Geass, his plan was always to try and start a rebellion, however, he didnt have the capacity to at his age, and with his status. Now, with geass, he was able to succeed much quicker, and easier, with less planning involved. His success I do believe does stem from his Geass mainly, but not completely, his intelligence is what allows him to win, but without his Geass, he is a schoolboy who plans a rebellion, without much of a capacity to enact it, or at least to fully make it work without decades of planning.

One is seen as the protagonist and the other the antagonist. Neither were evil but both had opposing views and were seen as heroes to their respective sides. To the Britanians, Zero is a villain and Suzaku is a hero. To the Japanese, Zero is a hero and Suzaku is a villain. My point is regardless of alliances or lack thereof, a villain and a hero worked together to fight a mutual enemy. So to either perspective, a bad guy worked with the good guy to create success.

The duality of Lancelot and Gawain here is a nice touch because in Arthurian legends, Lancelot and Gawain fought to the death after Lancelot stole King Arthur's wife and kills Gawain's sister (Gareth). The two fought each other to the death like Lelouch and Suzaku here despite being old friends.

The thing about that is that Zero sets himself up to look like he's just escaping to the Chinese Federation and doing the same thing (and that's probably how the media spun it) but it was an entirely different event. Sawasaki ran away to save himself and came back with the Chinese Federation as an invading force to bring Japan into the Federation. He wasn't liberating Japan, he was simply trying to change Japan's masters (even though he may not have seen it that way). Lelouch ACTUALLY did what Sawasaki was claiming to have done. He took his people out of Japan, bolstered his ranks and returned to liberate Japan. On paper, what Sawasaki did wasn't wrong. Going to get help to defeat and enemy you can't on your own, but that wasn't what he ended up doing.

Why do people compare him to Yagami Light of Death Note? I watched 5 episodes of Death Note. I was like "WTF is he doing!?" because Light was absolutely atrocious at killing people. He leaves obvious evidences and traces behind but somehow, the police are dumber than him. His tactics were childish. He kept playing into L's hand so obviously. To me, he's just a dumb kid acting smart. Lelouch, on the other hand, was absolute genius. I need more Code Geass in my life. Anyone know more strategic shows like this?

Dude that was the point.. suzaku is a kid. How can you expect him to have an understanding of war and fighting? He is deliberately portrayed as a hypocrite at the start. But he does grow immensely by the end of the series. He was willing to literally do anything for the zero requiem.
