I use frozen mysis shrimp primarily - once a week at best; frozen blood worms when I run out. And 15 types of dry food. And green beans and peas. The goliath groupers in the pond I've never fed... but I've noticed I never hear the neighbor kids anymore...

I basically buy every frozen food they have at the store with some minor exceptions - I don’t get the Krill and the beef heart (anymore) because my fish don’t care for it. Then I rotate through the foods so they never get the same thing two days in a row.

I usually mix a cube of Daphnia with a nano cube of copepods. Works great for fry and adults. Mix in Sera dry food, Fluval Bug Bites, and live microworms. Working on hatching out baby brine.

Thanks Bentley! As usual goo advice, good information. I am feeding my new Fahaka Puffer frozen clams. She is too small to eat them whole but I crack them hoping she will work her teeth on the shells. I also crush large snails. I may have to go to frozen snails eventually. I feed my Guppies frozen Brine shrimp. Is there any difference between the different Frozen Brine Shrimp manufacturers?

Thanks for your views and reasons why you do & don't use certain frozen. I use the cubes because the sheets are too hard for me to break apart. I really like cyclops but haven't been able to get it for over two years here. I like these videos which state what you use & why.

Another great video! Talking about how blood worms don't have much nutritional value, are live black worms along the same lines? My LFS keeps them in stock and I got into the habit of using them to feed some pea puffers, and obviously all my other tanks go crazy for them.

That depends more on type of fish than count. My big adult rainbow tank will plow through 2 cubes like it's nothing, but juveniles in the same numbers, 2 is more than enough.

That's a pretty good regime of food, you could also use the hikari vibrabites
@totaltropicals_tv1010

Bloodworm, is my number one go too. Fantastic for ripening ovaries, if spawning is the goal. I find the cheaper brands like Orca are the best. The quality of the expensive brands look great, but the fish suck the contents out of the skins and the skins mess the aquarium. Frozen Daphnia is good also, for medium to small fish. I culture my own, with the amount I have to feed it would send me broke. I also make my own wet recipes, from raw ingredients. So Bentley, do you have a preferred brand for commercially prepared frozen foods?
@BentleyPascoe
@BentleyPascoe 4 жыл бұрын
Hikari for most foods, but San Francisco Bay brands for cyclops

So.... Sadly, literally all I can get (live in socal) around me is bloodworms or brine shrimp. Not even the frozen baby brine anymore. I wish I could get daphnia and such, but there's a saltwater shop near me I can manage to get cyclops once in a while. Question for you, if you didn't have a shelf/table and didn't have a "room" to build a nice brine shrimp factory but you could convert say.... A 5g bucket in a corner to a "pond" how would you do it, what would you keep in it for live foods? I like bloodworms only for my Cory's. They love worm shaped foods and I feed them the vibrabites just to replicate that behavior. They usually get a mix of other foods and something frozen whenever I feel like treating them. I've actually thought about grinding up some shrimp cubes or something that's healthy for them as well.
@BentleyPascoe
@BentleyPascoe 4 жыл бұрын
Typically brine as they get older feed well on Brewer's yeast. That being said, I would take the bucket, cut a hole in the lid to act like a holder, the. Use a 2L or 1L bottle as my brine shrimp hatchery set into it. Feed a line and valve into the cap through your hole, call it good.

Just wondering after seeing & listening to your video. I agree that feeding live & frozen food to aquarium fish in small quantities greatly improve the health of the fish. However I want to know will this food effect the chemistry of the water & filter media in canister filter. Doing regular tank maintenance like water changes will become more frequent.? Does it effect human health when one in comes in contact with aquarium water. This is my curiosity.
@BentleyPascoe
@BentleyPascoe 4 жыл бұрын
I do 50% changes weekly on all my tanks, I've yet to see frozen foods cause water quality issues. As for your self, just wash up as soon as you're done working in a tank and there should be no issues
