Street gangs can have a little respect, as a treat. So, real talk: While these types of games aren't really my thing, I absolutely have to commend them on having the custom character as an active participant in the plot with full dialogue. That's pretty rare, and it's a cool little touch.

My favourite part is that different protagonist voices have different dialogues, so even though you still play as the same character your experience is still somewhat fresh and different from the previous one.

Saints row 2-4 (and fallout 4 to a lesser extent) are the only games I can think of that have a fully voiced customizable character that have a very active role in the story. Not to mention that they have such a defined personality.

Basic Saints Row rundown: 1 - Gangland Drama 2 - Fast and the Furious, ends with taking down a mega corp 3 - You are the Mega corp in entertainment. Other mega corps dont like you. End with taking down SHIELD 4 - Aliens trap you in the Matrix, ends with rewriting time Gat out of Hell - Still kinda the Matrix, but with Satan and his daughter singing Disney numbers?

I preferred 2 to 3: it had the perfect blend of seriousness and humor. 3 felt like it was starting to jump the shark a little bit; not as much as "Ex Banger President versus the Aliums," but still. That being said, I still think a street gang of grenade-wielding luchadores is an amazing concept.

Steelport was also a lot less interesting a location than Stillwater. I can remember a lot of locales from Stillwater from memory, and how vibrant parts of it felt for the time, while Steelport was just 'New York Clone 9823'

Well, since I played this game for months upon months, I know this game and SR4, WAY too much, and you said it, it did go the way of Fast & Furious, but to th nth degree lol. Also, you went with Female 1 aka Laura Bailey, I spent many playthroughs jumping back and forth between both Troy and Laura's base character models recreating their likeness, and dressing up in stylish clothes between every mission , I lost my mind with this game. (Hogan voiced Angel, who joins the crew, and Killbane is voiced by Rick D. Wasserman, Earth Mightiest Heroes Thor and the AMC announcer, and Josh is new, and is voiced by Andrew Bowen, Johnny Cage's VA in MKX and MK11... And that was totally Yuri Lowenthal, since he voices a main character, Matt Miller)

They fixed the rain visual bug, and the frame rate on the switch version with the latest patch by introducing automatic resolution scaling. It works quit well, and keeps the frame rate above 30 a majority of the time. Even during hectic gameplay. Just in case that sale comes around. ;)

People were way too hard on this game. Like, this if I were to make a list of underrated games that are secretly great, this would make the list. Sleeping Dogs would be at the top though. It's genuinely one of my favorite games of all time, and it got average review scores at best.

Ehh, not really the only thing they improved upon was the physics/how they handled the radio other than that it was scaled back in every aspect from the first 2. Hell, I'd argue that SR4 deserves that spot more than this game.

Saints Row The Third has a weird development. Good source to read about it's development is the SR Anniversary stream where Volition showed off Beta videos and builds of SR3 during it's third day along with cut content discussion.

Okay so I recently tried to replay GTA IV after having recently played Saints Row 2 and 3. The issue with the shooting mechanic was that it relied too much on the lock on. Like in GTA IV most of the time when you had a gun in your hand you had it down you needed to press a button to raise the gun up and then be able to shoot so it was far easier to press the lock on button and just hold the fire button until whatever in front of you was dead and it made the shooting feel so bad and wrong at the same time.

Saints Row was never like GTA, and didn't try to either. That's like comparing Bully to GTA Saints Row was in development before San Andreas even released... Even Sr1 has better clothing, activities, and car customization, while GTA 4 didn't even have most of that. *edit: If anything, GTA V Online copied Saints Row 4, so I'd rather SR goes back to it's roots.

Not only was it one of the most diverse and most well put, fun saints row games, but it also had one of the best cinematic trailers set with Kanye West ‘power’. I don’t think they can top it, 4 was sub par in my book

Saints 3 got the tone right, and the QoL changes were nice. But I miss the outfit customization, the improvised weapons, and the different fighting styles of 2. Keep going in Saints 2, after you beat a gang you get to take their fighting style. The Brotherhood gives you straight up wrestling for melee.

The Saints Row games felt like they were designed by a team that was doing progressively more copious amounts of cocaine. And then by the time SR4 rolled around, the cocaine just wasn't doing it anymore, so they went on a massive bender of anything they could physically ingest.
