Nice video. I suggest that you separate the honeycomb from the aluminum plate. The way you have it attached prohibits air flow through the honeycomb. Even a little gap, will go a long way, especially when/if you ever add an enclosure with an exhaust that needs to draw air across the work surface.

Good day Nick ! Just un boxed the honeycomb table (which I purchased through your link as with the air assist) ! Funny thing is that the side rulers are in Imperial (inches) but everything else is based on MM . Also my air assist only came with one nozzle ...But mine did come with a switch . To solve the issue with all the extra hose as you pointed out I was able to add a small shelf above the D1 and added a loose fitting wire tie around it and the wire harness so they travel together , no issues so far. Time for a clink and install table . as always thanks for all your videos and help ! Keep up the informative and entertaining stuff ! Cheers !! John in Florida A.K.A. Fla Dude 🙂✌

Nice review of the add on goodies for the D1! The honeycomb tray is a must buy especially if you are cutting. As a bonus you can use larger neodymium magnets for things like leather and thinner material to secure to the honeycomb material.

What about cutting acrylic, does it work on this machine? With the air assist?
@mmb44272 жыл бұрын
My niece is tasering mirrored acrylic sheets with names of wedding guests and seating assignments. The sheets I’ll be made into freestanding light boxes. We’ve been working with it for 2 days. We be tried with air assist, without air assist, lifting the work in various ways, masking the other side, not masking, with the honeycomb, without it, etc. we keep getting sparking intermittently and there will be a circular burn mark on the image. So discouraging. We need these made for an August 20 wedding. Any ideas on what we’re doing wrong? My niece has been doing these projects for more than 3 years. She has engraved Yeti mugs and wood. But she only recently bought this particular device so she’s coming up a bit of a learning curve. TIA.

@sakakiszone89522 жыл бұрын
The laser itself is not affected by wind as it is a diode laser, if anything having an open air current through your workshop can help (as long as it is not gale force) since it will help blow away fumes, smoke and dust. Not sure about direct sunlight since I only use it in my garage, haven't done any work in open areas.

@@melindagibson8606 Sculpfun likes the advertise a weird laser wattage number. The true output is more like 5.5W which drops it down into the lower end of current engravers. The 20W on the xTool should be pretty close to a true 20W laser output.

Haven't played with the Comgrow enclosure, I know xTool is planning to release their own enclosure soon but I'm guessing it will be more expensive. Having kids around though I would have some type of enclosure, more to protect their eyes from the light than just the smoke/fumes.

@TinkerWorX2 жыл бұрын
These diode lasers wont cut transparent acrylic/plexiglass, because the laser color goes right through. The reason other types of lasers work is because they work in the infrared range which wont go through the material, so it cuts instead. You can try something like dark acrylic and it should work.
@hds04052 жыл бұрын

I designed and 3D printed an air assist for my Ortur LaserMaster Pro. It makes all the difference in the world in how it cuts. What used to take 9 passes now only takes 3 and much cleaner cut without all the smoke. I am using a Harbor Freight airbrush compressor for the air supply with no regulator. The hole in the nozzle where the laser and air comes through is about 1.5mm in diameter and maybe about 3mm above the focal point so the stream of air is getting right into the cut.
