Prince and "Purple Rain" both the album and the movie, not surprisingly, played supporting roles in my romantic life as a bookish-sensitive-nerd-pretending-to-be-a-hardboiled-hard-drinking-macho-man-while-growing-up-in-a-small-blue-collar-town-in-Deep-East-Texas.

Lol! Deep down, didn't we all want to believe we were rockstars while, in reality, living in our parents' basement with, like, shelves full of kitschy ceramic figurines. He was a sensitive soul behind that bad-boy facade.

Thanks, Marc! This one was an Ebay find from years back. Looking forward to seeing your take on the tag!

I used to do "reading soundtracks" on my blog... this is great and such an apt pairing! Prince is more accessible than Xue as long as you don't think about the lyrics too much...

I prefer to think of Purple Rain as a publicly accessible alternative to abstinence-only sex education. Are those reading soundtracks still available online? Would be interested to check them out. As far as actually listening to music while reading, for me song lyrics get too distracting, so I can only do instrumental/ambient stuff. Glad you enjoyed!

Probably won’t do this tag but I was tempted to pair musicals with the source material just to fuck with people (Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables, Pygmalion, etc)

LOL! If I could prod you into doing a 100% troll version of this tag, I would consider my BookTubing career a success.
