I was the same way, stubborn and stupid. Finally opened up to alt tunings 4 years ago and seeing Jacob and Alan Gogoll. Playing different arrangements is like 95% of what I do now.

Can this work for nylon strings, or would the B snap going that extra distance to C?

im no expert by any means but it should be fine. You should kind of be able to tell if the string is getting close to snapping from tension. If you really want to be able to play in this tuning and your strings aren't letting you, you just need to find different gauges.
