Love this! I can totally relate to the social media struggle. For me, I use a random password generator to change my IG password. I store the random password that was generated in a google doc. So, when I want to check my IG I have to log on to Google doc, copy my random password and then paste to log back on to IG. This is a huge HASSLE so it works to give me pause before logging on. I also have IG access only on my computer, not my phone so when I log on it's super intentional, maybe I post something and then get off. Plus, IG on a computer is way less appealing for some reason. I'm not tempted to spend as much time. GAME CHANGER for me. You are not alone in the struggle. Such an important conversation to be having :)

Really loved this video! It was cool to hear you talk about the HSP book- I discovered that last year and also found it life-changing. Even before the tips for re-framing our sensitivities and thinking about them as gifts instead of burdens, just learning that there are so many other people who feel the same way I do has been so helpful in making me feel less alone. Glad you had a similar experience! I also want to say that I think it’s really great of you to be honest about the way you’re navigating your relationship to social media, especially since your livelihood is built around it- that’s got to feel like kind of a vulnerable thing, and I appreciate that you’re open about it and encouraging all of us to do the same. Sending lots of love!

Thanks for keeping it real, Erica! I recently deleted Facebook and Instagram from my phone and only use those on my computer now and only for about 15 per day. I think I’m also an HSP and easily feel overstimulated. I feel lighter having decreased my social media. I don’t want to look back and see that I spent so much free time on it when I could have been doing other more fulfilling things. I used to read all the time (especially fiction) and am hoping to start that again. I have a 3 year old and want to be a good example for her and also be more present with her. I try to limit her screen time as much as possible, except for some cartoons on TV. Anyway I hope you keep doing what you’re doing, your videos bring me joy. And your son and hubs are adorable. :)

That's a great idea, to only have social media on the computer and not the phone. I didn't necessarily think about the connection between being HSP and being overstimulated by social media, but now that you mention it, that is the case for me too. Aw thanks so much! I'm really glad the videos bring you joy! :)

Something that I’ve done with social media since I’ve been on it, (since the MySpace days) Is I constantly edit who I follow, the notifications I get etc. it’s so incredibly important to have boundaries and realize that social media is great and can be fun, but if you don’t have boundaries with it it can become very toxic, just like real life relationships. everything in life has good & bad aspects, it’s all about making sure you are aware of how things are making you feel & then responding to them appropriately.

This video really spoke to me Erica! I just ordered that book and really feel that it will be helpful for me, so thank you! Also to help reduce my social media use I usually do not keep my phone by me when I'm trying to work. I put it in a different room or if it's beside me I turn it over and put it on silent. I've been thinking of deleting facebook for a while. Not sure I'm quite ready for IG. lol Love these types of videos and content! Hi!! I got this chill when you said that about social media. I've been watching KZbin all day and feeling guilty at the same time because I'm supposed to be studying. Seriously distracted. But what really startled me is my little g babies, 10 and 7 are constantly on Roblox. It's super hard for their mom to do much about that because of covid though and she works while dad is at home. I'm definitely an HSP and have put that book in my Amazon cart as you were sharing about the book. I can't believe how much I relate. I'm 54 so I really could have used this book many years ago. I'm torn about the social media thing because you have genuinely made me think, laugh, and feel deeply. You definitely give and I don't think your popularity is hollow. I believe a lot of your followers would welcome you into their homes if they could. I know I would!!! 😊❤️😊❤️😊❤️

It’s a good thing you have a therapist that understands an HS person. I went into a therapists office 5 years ago and tried explaining about my empath abilities-& she almost admitted me to a psych ward 🙈 not every state has trained therapists in this genre yet. Very good topic to converse about 💓

I recently made a coloring book! I am an artist and my daughter was curious about my practice, going to galleries with me and this sparked an interest in art history. She asked me to make her a famous artist coloring book so I did! I sell it in my online shop Tiana Traffas Art. I of course gave her one of the books and we color in it together. It really is relaxing. I'm an HSP too and it is nice to have something, like you said, no pressure but still creative! Soon your son will be coloring along with you!!

When I started my online business for my art full time, I had to turn off my notifications. It got really overwhelming. I noticed it used social media less without them. I check my messages/comments/orders etc in the morning when I work and try to stay off it after that. I have moved away from it naturally just by doing this. I spend more time working on art and other hobbies. My partner gets more quality time because we are both present and have our phones out away.

I have been feeling the same way about social media especially after last year. I started by setting app limits on my phone so that after a certain amount of time the app would lock and I wouldn't be able to access it with out putting in a password. That worked for a while, but I found that if I was falling down a rabbit hole I would just turn off the block. After watching the 'Social Dilemma' I decided to delete the apps from my phone and only access them from my computer. For me this works because I have to desperately want to see something on the platforms to go and get my laptop and log-in. I am not that interested in anything on any of the platforms to be bothered. I also feel like it was easier to delete the apps after having had the app limits in place for awhile. I had already broken the habit of scrolling...deleting the apps eliminated the temptation altogether. After deleting the apps entirely, I have noticed I don't pick up my phone as much anymore and I am more productive. I always felt like I had no time in my day, because all of my downtime was spent mindlessly scrolling. Now I fill that time with doing things that actually add value to my life. Also I now reach out to friends and family more to talk and see how they are doing....because I don't have a minute by minute playback of their day.

I know that social media applications have a highly addictive marketing scheme. I have removed all notifications and only check and post when i feel compelled to. Sometimes when I check facebook and I have a lot of comments and likes, it makes me feel overwhelmed. I would say to you: only make videos that you are truly inspired to make. I don't need a video every week, but a wonderful video that you are passionate about every once in a while sounds great to me.

Yes, I have a couple of adult coloring books. I love them. Particularly if they're extremely detailed. I also paint rocks and place them around my community. I buy the 2"-3" size river rocks or landscaping rocks, and I use acrylic paint pens. Keeps hands busy, gives you time to think, and the bonus...putting them out into the world for others to find. (I'm painting a series of all the U.S. Presidents). And social media? Get rid of it. Even though it's considered "social", I believe it isolates people further. Humans are social, but we need eye-to-eye contact. People were a whole lot nicer when I was your age because NO ONE would dare walk up to your face and say things that people on social media say to each other. The Social Media was excellent (and absolutely frightening/disgusting). Your baby is gorgeous, your husband is so handsome, and you are just lovely. House plant: here's one for $200. www.etsy.com/listing/907217457/monstera-albo-borsigiana-white-tiger?gpla=1&gao=1&&CjwKCAiAu8SABhAxEiwAsodSZH7Lefyb06La7TEcCm0H_-h2xMjAFu-KdtM-lwa6G1RPpRp3CVKDnRoCMlAQAvD_BwE_k_&:pla-321284729019_c__907217457_12768591&gclid=CjwKCAiAu8SABhAxEiwAsodSZH7Lefyb06La7TEcCm0H_-h2xMjAFu-KdtM-lwa6G1RPpRp3CVKDnRoCMlAQAvD_BwE

I'm a writer, so I depend on Facebook to share my work and connect with others in my field, and with teachers. Internet communities can be a force of connection, or disconnection. It's okay to hold the complexity, all at once. I'm in a place where I don't moralize my "Facebook addiction." As a stay at home mom who is also an intellectual, it's just too important for my sense of self. I honestly don't know what the deep heady housewives did before the internet. They must have been so starved for stimulation!

That makes sense that social media is important for you as a writer. It is good to take into account all the complexity of the pros and cons, as you are doing!

👋👏 Though thankfully I never was hard core for 'the' Gram, and knowing of the rabbit hole that is created when ones goes onto it {T.Tok would be worse}, I just don't really use it unless trying to see where creators are if missing from YT. I am not into being directed to go there, when am one of a certain majority that prefer YT videos. {note: I'm not a YTuber/content creator thus able to avoid excessive exposure to social plus live in a Coastal temperature rainforest thus appreciative of being outside an immense amount} I do appreciate though that no doubt that IG 'is' where c.creators make majority of income. Great point about how kids become all to aware as to why parents/guardians are hyper focussed on that bright rectangle shaped thing in their hand rather than on 'them'.

Good for you for not spending much time on Instagram! It's really nice that you're able to spend a lot of time outside in nature where you live and avoid too much social media.
