Yes, that endless sweaty dancing scene in Zion was really important to the story and should definitely have stayed in the final cut. In fact, it should have been longer, sweatier, and even more lacking in a point. No wonder the Machines are winning, if that's what the Humans consider 'getting ready for war'..

It's pretty difficult to keep right while watching, to be fair, as the Matrix has a wide dynamic range. You gotta have the riff at 30% for the dialogue portions and 100% for the action scenes.
