I will be turning 70 next April and I was amazed that you and I were feeling the same. It is like I want to start my whole life all over again and have some purpose. At first I thought…I am nuts for feeling this way but who says there is an age limit when you can improve or start living a different way? It is not as silly as most of us think. I live in Florida in a 55+ community called The Villages and it is beautiful but I miss the type of nature I was used to in Ohio. I would love to move to the Northern part of South Carolina…it is never too late for change. I am working on it. Thank you so much for reminding to never stop dreaming and changing. You and Desi are wonderful. Please give Desi a kiss for me. ❤

I was so happy to read your words tonight! I felt quite nuts! But then it started to make sense...those first years of being a woman...and fast forward to right now...I look in the mirror, and I am a new woman...one I do not always recognize and at first it upset me and made me sad. But now, I find it exciting!!! Thank you so much or sharing your feelings!!! Much love to you always, Susan & Dez PS: Oh North Carolina is so beautiful and dreamy!!

I am 65 and have been in Florida for 23 years. I am thinking of moving to a 55 plus community in TN as my area has become overly expensive with insurance and taxes. I think I am done with hurricanes and rains. Visiting my daughter in Minnesota and driving 8-10 hours for 4 days. I would live near her but it is so cold in the winter, I don’t think my arthritis and asthma can take it. Yet, I do look forward to 4 seasons in TN that are mild. I feel like if I am going to make a move, it is now or never and it just feels like it is that time. Thanks for the inspiration!

First of all, thank you for showing that gorgeous jewelry set that you wore to the wedding! Exquisite! I, too, at 66, am starting life over. What to do? Who to be? And the finish line appears a whole lot closer now than when I was 18 and had visions of where I'd be in 20 years! This IS my last 20 years, God willing, to make my new visions come true. But I'm not sure what I want. So, for now, I simply enjoy life, go to my retirement job, love my time with family and friends, and keep a grateful attitude. And to show patience and love towards others. That seems to be in very short supply these days. On another note, only this year have I seen those gorgeous pink/red hydrangeas in what seems like everyone's yard! What are they called? They are absolutely stunning! Give Desi a scratch behind the ears for me!

Hope you have a happy birthday, I turned 65 years last May. This is the only age that I EVER felt sad turning 65. I CAN'T get my mind to stop thinking that my years left aren't many. It makes me so sad. Mainly cause of not being with my kids and grandkids. I CAN'T shake it off.

I just turned 57 and am working hard to focus on MY life instead of my son's life, who is an active alcoholic. I can't cure him or fix him, or get through to him. But I also can't waste away the rest of my life worrying so much about him that I forget to live. You inspire me, Susan. I can still be excited about my future and live my best life even if others are in chaos.

I would like to suggest doing community service work. I have never married, so no children either. I started doing community service work in my early 40's. It has added so much value to my life by giving to others in need. There are so many areas that could use your beautiful heart and loving hands. You will be wonderfully full-filled by your efforts and the appreciation that is returned to you. There is still a purpose for you.

I will be 71 this month. I worry about running out of time. Living in an active adult community, we have our share of deaths. Personally, I like to keep learning. Made jam for the first time two years ago. Started making pickles last year. Been baking my grandchildren bread twice a month. Been into photography since 2008. This week I start a class to get my HAM operator’s license. Joined a weekly Bible study. Still decorating our home after 11 years. Have to save up to do that. All I wish for is that my husband and I stay well enough to live our quiet lives for a long time to come, and that the children havei good lives.

I am 64. I've just lost both my parents within 10 months of each other so I am reassessing my future. I always had to consider them in every decision for over 5 years. The grief has not hit me yet, but something else has. I am now acutely aware of my own mortality and have no patience with people who I have reluctantly tolerated over the years. I am now looking at retiring and enjoying the rest of my life. I have always had countless family obligations. I am not a grandmother and my son is grown so I will throw away the shackles and try to enjoy the life I have left, helping people along the way who deserve my time. Thanks for your wonderful videos Susan x

Love Etsy. Going to be 70 next year and I have never felt so free, attractive or fit in my life. Done with family, they are on their own journey and doing fine. Miss my late husband who was my favorite husband yet I am also excited to be who I am. To fall in love with me, to see all those treasures deep inside. Nothing wrong with love but if we seek happiness in others we will never find it. Now when I see couples or families together I am honestly so grateful for my freedom because I remember all the compromise it takes and I realize I don't want to repeat and I finally finished all those life lessons and did well but now I am wanting more from this life, my life and there's more, I can feel. And so can you, Susan ❤🎉

Hello Susan. I’m amazed so often how much we have in common. You talked about living in the latter part of life can be an adventure and I feel the same way. I’ll be 73 in November. My husband of 50 years died in February 2021 and that was the first time I had lived alone. I was the bread winner in our home because he couldn’t keep a job. I grew to feel as though I identified as a work horse and I lost who I really am inside. I sold our little house in December that year and moved in with my daughter because he had ruined our credit, so I had no borrowing power and with a house you have to upkeep things. In all the changes I’ve found a renewed excitement about my life. I bought lots of pretty clothes, purses, shoes and jewelry. After all the years of struggle I am finding who I am…and I enjoy life. I have a little dog that was rescued from a hoarders house. He had hardly any hair and just looked so scared. Now he’s all healthy and a beautiful Pomeranian that I named Jack. (His name was Chips, but he deserved a great name). It is my absolute joy in life to make him a happy little guy! My favorite things in life are music, art, nature and interior design. So with all that said, I so relate to you in so many ways. Love and hugs to you and Desi

I've been deep cleaning my house, and enjoying cooking and eating supper with my hubby when he comes home from work, trying some of the new recipes that I've collected over the last 35 years.. life is good!

I live in the mountains so I need to overcome my fear of transporting the bike. I need to ignore the aches and pains, the dirt in the house will be here when I get back. I am looking forward to new adventures. I have been stuck in a rut for way too long. I don't know anyone who has the same interests that I do and hubby isn't interested so I will explore on my own. Wish me luck.

I am 72 and being retired is not what I thought it would be. My daughter had her miracle baby 6 1/2 years ago. I have taken care of her full time since she was 6 month old when my daughter went back to work. I help homeschool; and help her learn piano. Our favorite times are reading and our favorite book for years has been “ The Keeper of Wild Words” by Brooke Smith. Just last week my granddaughter said to me - “Gran when I grow up and have a baby girl, I want you to take care of her if I have to work.” It was very hard to not cry because I probably won’t be here. So in my station of life, I ask God to help me be the best wife, mom, and Gran for as long as possible. I hope you all have a very blessed day.

I have done it! I turned 70, then 71, 72 and 73… and I need to encourage you. I felt that insecurity you talked about, and I think most women do as we enter this completely new phase of life. It may be at 60, 65, 70, each of us is different, but it is not permanent. Our lives are not defined by the same things anymore, like career, raising our family, our looks. We can actually CHOOSE our new definitions. I think what you have identified is crucial - making ourselves useful or helpful or significant to one or many. I also think it is so important to be curious, challenged, growing, whether about nature, the arts, politics, or any other subject that catches our fancy. We have TIME to explore. And we have the ability to smile at strangers - maybe even wink. We can give out compliments or sympathy freely, and we ourselves are enriched! I’m stopping now, but I wish we were sharing a cup of coffee and ENJOYING the moments!!❤❤

Susan, you always seem to talk about things I’m going through. You talked about moving and that is big in my life right now. My children live in Co and I and my husband live in NC. He loves it there but I and my children want me to live closer to them. This is huge and your advice to think it through and make the best decision. I’m praying that we can find a “win-win” but it’s tough. I;m frightened about the upcoming year and your “chats” really help. At 76, a Big move is daunting but I know that I would feel peaceful and secure closer to my children and grandchildren. I do get up everyday and journal what I’m grateful for and that helps as well as a good cuddle from my little dog Duffy. Thank you for being there.

Hi Little Poet/Susan! I love the video of the river and the deer and the beautiful music! So serene and relaxing. I'm 77, and I compare going into 70's and beyond to going into "middle school"...it's an adjustment, but when you finally get the hang of it, you enjoy it and benefit from it! I try to stay "young at heart" and enjoy the things I enjoy...like you do with your garden, and decorating...being creative keeps us young doesn't it. 😊❤🌹🌼🌷

Your message really resonated with me today . I’m coming up on the 5 th anniversary of my husbands sudden passing at 65 and reflecting about how far I’ve come since then and finally feeling at peace and looking forward to some new adventures in my future . I can feel joy squeezing it’s way in again and I want to embrace it .

I feel so much the same way that you do. I feel like I am starting over at 65. I have moved 5 times in 4 years. I am going to start a new career in writing and work from home. I feel like I have said more goodbyes in my life, than I have said hellos. I find myself pondering over my past a lot more and wondering what the last chapter holds for me. This pondering and reflecting brings me to a somber place, even though I have mostly been a positive person. Aging just crept up on me too fast. I wasn’t prepared for it. I woke up to the fact that I am a senior. I ask myself, how do you want to live out the rest of your life? It is hard to make up for lost years and some regrets. Then, I thank God for what he has given to me. I realize that both the good and the bad times will pass. Nothing stays the same forever. Things change and our goals, and priorities need to adjust. I want peace and more time for myself at this stage of life. It is like coming home to self.

This is when I found your channel and several podcasts that have brought back my motivation for living my life to the fullest. When I’m searching for something unique and original, I always head to Etsy.❤️

I appreciate your advice on life. I have been depressed with severe anxiety for years. I think about pets that have passed and feel like I didn't do enough. I feel guilt that I brought my children up as a single parent in an old house, and worry about exposure to asbestos, radon, mould and catastrophize about every bad thing that could happen. I thought I was doing the best I could, but regrets pile up as you have more time to think about the past. I had to leave my old house, having a mental breakdown. I want to enjoy life and be happy, and find joy in simple things as you do. I look forward to your videos; they bring me a bit of peace. I never had help with the house; who helps you with roof shingles, clogged gutters, ice storm broken branches? Bless you for giving hope to a lonely senior.

Funny thing is at 64 I think I’m finally finding myself and finding contentment in life despite us having to change our dreams, the things we always thought we do when we retired because of the things my husband’s been through with his back and his legs. Having to retire early changed everything and I’m OK with it. I’m finding joy in creating , spending time with him every day, and just enjoying my life. I wouldn’t have given you that answer a year ago. But I think I’m at a place where I’m at peace with how our life is going , and we still have hopes and dreams of things we want to do but I’m OK if we can’t do them all. I’m OK if we can’t do any of them , and we just live our beautiful life in our beautiful home and spend time together , and with our family and friends. Thank you for another lovely video !!

My uncle was over 80 when he replanted his orchard. That was his purpose he said for the 2nd half of his life. Then that summer we had a drought. He carried water in 5 gallon buckets every day for those trees. My aunt tried to tell him he was too old to be carrying water in that heat and neither of them would live long enough to enjoy it. He just grinned at her and said" No, but someone will eat this fruit." The point is, if we're still here, we have to live. Not sit and wait to die.

Although being single at this age was not in the plan, I find I look back and cherish the memories of those years, and I look forward to spending time with family and friends. My daughters & grandkids are working and/or going to school, so it's a quieter life for me now, but that's ok. I'm done with the dating and husband thing as I wanted a forever spouse & they decided they didn't. I'm glad you're son's wedding went so well. You looked beautiful! But, I lived life pretty fast . . . that may change once I retire and can finally slow down for a minute. I love Etsy - I bought a red gingham valance recently - it was exactly what I wanted and a stained glass fan pull . . . may be small items but what makes my place unique.

I apologize for this being a late entry, i was feeling really tired and so I went to bed early like 9:00pm. I didn’t wake up until 9:30 Sunday morning. So anyway I really enjoyed the video and I love your strolls along the river are so relaxing and so beautiful. I turned 70 in July and I have to say that I feel like something has come alive inside me and I want to do things and go places. So I’m hoping to get some travel in but there is so many places in Washington that I haven’t seen or haven’t been to in a very long time. So I would like to do that now and maybe later go to other states and do some adventuring in them. I’ve been getting ready to go back to the gym and start my fitness program so I can get in good physical shape. I need that for my energy to stay up or I get sluggish especially in the winter and I certainly don’t want that. I’m not looking for a relationship I think I put that all behind me and it’s about me and what I want. I don’t want younger people to think we’re selfish as we get older we aren’t. It’s just a special time to feel what you want to feel and do what you want to do and we have earned that in one or another. So I want to just enjoy the life I have while I can and not feel guilty about it. I think we all of the senior group understand this very well. Right Susan and I think we understand each other. Thank you so much for being here and I missed you while you were gone. I’m glad you are back you and Desi. Have a good week and give Desi a big hug for me. Take care and stay safe 🙏🌹🩷🐾🥰.

Thank you for sharing with us again this week. The photography is always exquisite. Your words are always thought-full. I appreciate how you care about your physical appearance. So many women do not think it matters, but it does. I guess your friend you are talking about was the man who left around Valentines Day. It seemed to me it was a misunderstanding, but you know in your heart. I am 73, never married, no children, spent my life learning what is important to me and how to be true to myself and appreciate my goodness. Some won't see it, so I just recently realized I am the one that needs to see it. Spending time trying to convince another was because I had not seen it in myself. That is why getting older is the gift of time to learn these things. Peace of mind and contentment is the greatest gift we can give ourselves. I find volunteer work is another blessing to give to ourselves and others. Thank you Susan for your delightful time with us. So much beauty surrounds you and is within you. 💕

Hi Susan! I love Etsy, and I've found some favorite shops there too. Amazon is great for some things, but Etsy is where I go when I want something special. I'm going to check out some of your favorite Etsy shops. I'll be 62 in 3 weeks. As I get older, I see so many older women who feel lost, without purpose. This community, here in this comments section, is a place where the women who have found you can come together and share those feelings and know that they are not alone.
