Hi Davie, Great video and well tyed. As you say, so many colour variations possible for this PTN pattern, which is why it is such a successful classic for fly fishing anglers. Regards, Wayne 😀👍

Very nice. I like the idea of using wire as a thread but haven’t tried it. Do you think it necessary to have an all-ceramic tube on your bobbin holder? I break ceramic tubes as a result of my fumble fingers. I’m also curious about much weight is added by metal thread. Have you ever weighed a fly tied with metal thread vs. the same pattern tied with regular thread? Or a conventional thread with a beadhead?

Hi @FlyTyer1948, I have tried the Griffin Ceramic bobbingholder which has a ceramic tip and at the bottom of the tube as well and it worked just as well so you don't have to have one the same as mine..I've not weighed the nymphs but when I fish them they sink at a nice pace unlike a lead weight or beaded fly which will drop twice as fast, the copper is a nice medium weight and fishes well with a soft hackle wet fly...I'm glad you like the fly.. All the very best Davie

Wow! I am amazed at what you are able to do with a hook and some feathers. Really impressive! And getting the extra information about the bobbin holder is much appreciated. Great job as always!

Always better when the imitation really looks like the real insect.

Great looking nymph mate. It’s been awhile since I’ve ask a question. How small can you go? How are you and the family doing. Enjoy watching your videos. I’ve learned a lot by watching the Master. Thank you my friend. Best regards, Ken

I like it a lot, I don't have extra fine wire but you've inspired me to find some and try these out! I also want to purchase some green Pheasant tail now too, as I only have black and natural. Thanks Davie!

Remington Industries. Look for magnet wire. The 'low end' stuff is copper color. Some of the higher end stuff is red tinted. Davie's Veniard wire is 0.0049". That or 0.004" works. Have to buy a bigger spool but it's cheap-ish and a person gets a LOT of wire Mike

Why is a $10 bobbin $40 now? Prices are going to keep new fly tyers from getting into the hobby.

Hi aa-ron, The last ones I bought from a company in Ireland called Premier Angling Supplies and they sold them for 25 euros so I have attached a link for you to see... premierangling.ie/product/tiemco-ceramic-bobbin-straight-heavy-duty/ I know prices of materials have gone through the roof since I started tying so it can be a bit hard to swallow if you remember what you paid when you first started tying.. All the very best Davie
