I remember reading this scene. Now, I'm not trans. Never had to struggle with identity or even had to deal with any gender/sexuality related unpleasantness. But that scene hit so hard, and was so heartwarming that it made my eyes water and I could not stop smiling.
@Mkdproductions1017 ай бұрын
the hardest part of being trans for me was learning how to love myself in secret. It felt like so much work, even trying to self-validate the simplest things left me feeling wounded anyway. So when I finally met people who loved me, it blew me off my feet. Just being seen, being accepted, for even a few minutes, had more leverage over me than an entire childhood of bitter-sweet isolation. Really put it all in perspective I guess? I don't know. I'm going to binge read this when I get the chance.

I can attest to the value of being accepted by children as a trans women. Knowing that a little human being who is completely untouched by social norms doesn’t think twice about believing in who you are… it flies in the face of all the obfuscating bullshit that adult transphobes try to throw at you. It’s evidence that the natural state of humanity is to show people kindness and respect no matter what, and that people who have been taught to be bigoted are far removed from reality

this scene reminds me of my own niece. when i had just changed my name and my sister told my then 9 year old niece about it her first response was to worriedly ask "but mom what do i do if i forget [my] new name?". she was worried that she would accidentally call me by my old name and make me feel bad, no other questions, no confusion and no judgement, she just accepted me like it was the most obvious thing to do. my sister really raised her right

if you're looking for more LGBTQ+ manga I have some that I love that don't get talked about enough! 'How do we relationship' is a great realistic lesbian romance about women in Collage!!! Yay to adults! 'Is love the answer' follows an asexual women learning about her identity in collage and spoke to my own experience as an asexual woman. 'Adult picture book' just had its first volume come out, its oddly comforting in its own way but I don't want to give anything away. There's so many more but Ill keep it at that for now. Love the video as always!!

I love HDWR - I've got up to vol 8 on my shelf, though I need to do a bit of catching up! It was a manga I was thinking about covering, but I wasn't quite sure which element to talk about. I've been flip-flopping on different topics. But it's definitely one I enjoy. It's nice to have a series that does have drama, and isn't 100% innocent (though I don't hate those series either). But within the GL space, with perhaps a few exceptions like Run Away With me Girl) that just hits the spot 😂 If you're looking for more asexual rep, in case you haven't already read it, "I want to be a wall" is good, too!

Skip and Loafer is my current favorite manga ever, and this is one of my favorite moments ever. It's a manga full of maturity and the realities that weigh on many people for different reasons, but also has as much kindness and sincerity. I think you put it perfectly, in that Mitsumi by nature is someone who will reach out in her way to her loved ones, she's kind and full of love, and that makes her such a perfect protagonist, especially for the cast surrounding her. Nao is one of my favorite characters ever, every single one of her chapters without fail hit, and I think for me what gets me the most is her context as a trans woman from the countryside. There's something so heartbreaking about it, because despite how much it hurts you, it's really difficult to not think of it as home, to get nostalgia for it, for the little things. And I love that reconnecting, slowly healing the traumas of the past and trying to create something new, the scene at the end of chapter 55, shen she calls Goro and speaks of wanting to one day bring him, to show him the places she loves, the people she cares about, to create new memories, it never fails to make me tear up, it's too much. Fantastic video, I think you perfectly nailed their dynamic, thank you!!

I love everything about Skip to loafer, from the plot to the character, all of them make me feel such incredible warmth that I have never experienced in my 7 years period of watching anime and reading manga. The relationship and dynamic between Nao-chan and Mutsumi is what I love the most about this manga, the way they are just so casually care for each other in smallest yet most meaningful actions got my chest warmed up so much inside. Though I have dropped the manga a while ago (since I do not have money to support the author through buying their works), but it is the scene when Nao-chan and Mutsumi first met that I would never ever forget.

Nao is probably my favourite character of this manga or anime (it is so well translated from paper to screen that both mediums are equally valid imo) but one of the things I actually like the most about this masterpiece (for it is a masterpiece) is Mitsumi's taking people as they are, and I don't use the word 'accept' because it she never would consider accepting or denying anything about a person. People are who they are, and who they are is who they say they are. That's what Mitsumi sees in people, who they say they are... take for example how she never forces anyone into being who they are not, even if her heart is at risk (I'm not sure this is spoilers for you as I'm up to date with the manga's Spanish edition). Even in her childhood she sees Nao for being Nao, regardless of her image conforming the traditional male/female standards. She might be using a boy's uniform, but she can have a flower bracelet and feel cute just like her with her own flower crown. She migh have been more innocent about it, but her personality hasn't changed much over the years, Nao is still Nao and she can wear flowers and be cute if she likes. Nao's and Mitsumi's bonding is my favourite relationship in 'Skip and Loafer' amongst the many other features that make this manga so so good.

Beautiful editing as always. I assume you use After Effects? I got myself the free version of DaVinci Resolve. Hopefully I can do animations on it too 🤞(I have so many Dungeon Meshi MMV ideas…) I definitely relate to Nao’s feelings, especially the jealousy. Man, I love this manga. I need to catch up! (It’s always a struggle to keep up with monthly releases, I keep forgetting to check for new chapters!) Wandering Son is… well, let’s just say there’s a reason trans men tell other trans men to proceed with caution when reading it. I read it blind as I was early in my personal transition (before coming out to anyone), and let’s just say the author deciding to detransition the only nonbinary/trans male character, using the “it was just a phase, she had internalised misogyny and needed to accept her female self :)” arguments sure was a slap to the face. Still, it’s probably a wonderful read for trans female readers! But yeah.

Thank you very much, and yep - I do my videos solely in After Effects, whilst doing the cutting out of the panels on Photoshop. And I only really use DaVinci for colour grading so I'm not quite sure I'm afraid. But it's such an extensive program I'd be surprised if you couldn't! And that's actually one of the reasons I've yet to read it. I have other trans friends who tell me it's worth the read even if some bits are a bit ... Eh. I think for a lot of people it was the first animanga that centred on gender expression for them, so I think many are attached to it for that reason, too. I'll get to it at one point, but will still be a bit cautious of some elements to the story.
