Thanks mate. I love getting some photos while I’m out there. I make annual photo books for my coffee table at home and it’s always good having some nice photos for it. As for the highs and lows, Bikepacking definitely accentuates them and I love that. I was a bit lost out there and didn’t really know what to do. In May 2022 I did a similar trip where I went out solo with the plan to meet up with some friends later in the day. They never showed up. This was fine and I had a great time. On this trip I couldn’t stop thinking, “if they don’t show up, I should probably head home so I can work on Monday” it was kind of hard to convey that message in the video because I didn’t record my thoughts. Once I knew they were there I was a new man 😂 I must admit I don’t mind when things don’t go to plan. It adds to the adventure and adds to the video 😂 Thanks for watching and thanks for the awesome comment.

Just came across your video while researching for a 2025 bikepacking trip to Australia in 2025. Interesting that you call it a balcony. I'm in Buffalo, NY USA and we call it a porch. I'm planning on seeing the Craig Hut on my trip. Very enjoyable video.
@advanturest8 ай бұрын
To be honest it’s not really a balcony. Balcony’s have hand rails so more so on a building or higher off the ground. I just don’t think when I speak and that’s what came out 😂 I think Veranda or porch is a better suited word. Craigs hut is a beautiful and popular hut that you can access by vehicles. Well worth a visit, I have a framed photo of it in my lounge room. That hut is in the Victorian high country. A lot of the area is accessible by 4wd and is steep country. The Snowy Mountains in NSW has some beautiful areas that are only accessible on foot or on bike. I think there is something like 70 huts in Kosciusko so could definitely be worth while planning to ride through there if you have time. Good luck with the planning and riding.

Really enjoyed this one! Great photos! My favourite was the misty background on the road & the bike in the foreground. Like your sense of humour and the reflections of your feelings. The GoPro POV is awesome makes it feel like you’re riding along beside you. I had a 💡 moment the other day planning hiking trips that are also on a bike trail. We are on a time limit & I realised if the kids and I bike instead of hike, technically we should get there quicker. So I went and bought myself a nothing fancy but was affordable mountain bike & currently trying to get that sorted along with the kids mountain bikes they already have. So have been watching a few of your vids to get a feel for it all with set up. Already have all the lightweight gear for hiking so that’s helped a lot. My other half thinks I’m crazy. Unfortunately he doesn’t share my love of the outdoors & adventures. When I seen the Jeep at the end I thought looked like Scotty’s car. Would be a great person to bump into in the bush!
@advanturest6 ай бұрын
Cheers Heather. I assume that's your name 🤣 Thanks for the kind words. Riding bikes can be a great way to cover some km's a bit quicker than walking, unless of course it's a ridiculously tough trail, I've been on a few it would be quicker walking haha. I think it's awesome you're taking your kids along for the adventure. I'm sure you're all going to love it. Even on a cheap bike it really doesn't matter. After all I do all my trips on 30 year old bikes I've fixed up, never had an issue. As for seeing Scotty out there, In 2022 I did a trip which happened to be on the same weekend he did a trip, I was meant to visit the hut he stayed at, Some of my friends cancelled on me so I changed my plans slightly, I was bummed I changed plans. A year later, this video, I head back to a different area and I had this spot marked on my GPS to park as its was at a trail head we planned to finish at. When I got there Scotty's car was there and I was so tempted to change my plans and go try and find him. I decided that may be a bit weird so I continued with my plans. I did message him and can confirm it was his car. Thanks for watching and enjoy your ride!
@footprintsandtyretracks6 ай бұрын
@@advanturest it sure is. I did have that thought that some trails would probably be quicker to walk than to try and ride, or walk and have to wheel your bike. Might be having that issue for our holiday planned in fnq for the school holidays as the tracks are currently closed due to all the rain and won’t even know if they are open until a couple of days prior to us due to leaving home. So track maintenance won’t have happened. Either way we have family up there so will find somewhere to ride the bikes. I will comment on one of Scottie’s vids for a collab with you. He eventually listened and him & Mattsy got together. I’d love to see Mattsy & Scottie out on a bike, given all the walking they usually do. Cheers for the reply!

Cracking video Tim. Here on the other side of the world, it's bothies rather than huts and they're few and far between. They're a great refuge in the colder months and seeing you out about on your hut hunt has convinced me to do more winter bothy missions myself.

Great work Tim - particularly enjoyed the grooving scenes at Townsend's Hut. Great to see you took the time to visit Love Nest - one of our fav huts. Fortunate choice on skipping Tatangara Dam Trail. The trail is pretty sketchy between where it crosses Nungar Creek to the gate at Tatangara Road. There is a new road to support Snowy 2.0 (which will cross Nungar Creek at some stage) which overlays part of Tatangara Dam Trail and joins Nungara Creek Trail. Finding the exit off the new road for Tatangara Dam Trail was very difficult. We spent a lot of time riding through very long grass, lifting bikes over fallen trees and hoping not to encounter snakes .....
@advanturest Жыл бұрын
Haha! I’m glad you enjoyed the moves 😂 I’ve had a few people tell me about that new dirt highway the Snowy 2.0 have put in over near the Bullocks Hill Trail. By what you’re saying they will join up that road with the Tantangara road which is a shame. I like how remote it feels out there and big roads don’t help. I generally don’t mind a bit of bush bashing with the bike, it makes me feel like a real explorer 😂, saying that, after 60 odd km’s at the end of a Monday when I’m supposed to be at work might not have been to fun. I too am glad I ended up getting the car. I didn’t get back to Sydney until 6pm so I didn’t end up going to work anyway 🫡 Anyway it was a great trip and sometimes it’s not all about the Km’s Thanks for watching 👍

@advanturest Жыл бұрын
These are a copy of the Surly Corner bar from Ali Express. At first I was unsure about them and have been slowly adjusting positions. I'm at the point now that I really like them. The bike they're on is an old 90's bike and the forks have a short steerer. I've had to put on a 45 degree stem to bring the height up and now they feel great. I've moved the shifter off the parts where my hand sits so I have more hand space. this means I have to move my hand to change gears but it doesn't really bother me. I still haven't put bar tape on them yet and I think I'll like it more when I do. I actually started making a video last year about this bike but I got crook and never finished it. I plan to finish that video and talk about the bars, its probably a good thing I didn't finish it because my opinion is completely different now. Here is an article on the real Surly Corner Bars. I think I want to get a decent hard tail and run them like this guy. He extended the "hoods" which would give more space for the shifter. Hope this helps. Cheers theradavist.com/surly-corner-bar-review/

Great video as usual Tim! How many kms would you actually ride on one of these trips?i think I’ve watched too many horror films to sleep in one of those huts by myself. So I think you’re pretty brave. 😂
@advanturest Жыл бұрын
It’s funny you mention horror films. Most of these huts have a handle or latch that you can access from inside and outside. That first night at Townsends Hut only had a latch on the outside. I closed the door when I went to bed but couldn’t latch it. I think I was half asleep and the door blew open. Freaked me out 😂 I ended up grabbing a chair and wedging it closed. It’s funny what goes through your head when you’re alone. As for these trips. I normally plan around the 30km’s a day. It varies though. This first day I started riding at 12.30 and only got about 10km before deciding to stay. If I’m in a group I just go with the flow and can film others crossing rivers etc rather than setting up tripods. It makes it faster and easier to cover more ground. Last weekend I did 62km on the Centenary trail in one day and that is one of my bigger days. Cheers!

Just found your channel from the states. Do you sell your photo's? Hugh MT biker never backed packed on one.
@advanturest Жыл бұрын
Nah, never sold any. Just a hobby. Saying that I’ve thought about setting up a website with trail info and photos and or prints to be purchased. I thought I could put more effort into getting nice landscape images while I’m out on the trails. At the moment it’s just an idea. With work, editing these videos, editing photos, general life chaos, finding time to try set up a website has been difficult. I’ll never do a trip without my camera though. I love having it with me on every ride.

You inspired me to get my very nice Cannon out and start taking it along. Love your simple composition.

I was expecting snowy mountains
@advanturest Жыл бұрын
Haha, maybe in winter. This trip was a week before winter and I was hoping to get snow but we only got rain. This area is the lower part of the snowy mountains so I don’t think it gets much snow. I’m pretty keen to do a trip in the middle of winter, I’d love to get stuck in hut during a storm. Not sure why but it would make a good video 😂

Dance like no-one's watching 😅 Bro - do you go for any sign-ups events, like Hunt1000 or mostly prefer to do your own thing? Cheers!
@advanturest Жыл бұрын
Haha, felt like someone was in the bushes watching me. So awkward 😂 I’ve never done any sign up events, I think I’d like them and am keen to try the hunt 1000 one day but generally finding the time is the hard part. I think I like cameras more than bikes so I’ve been trying to get away once a month to make a video and that month comes around quick. I’ve then got family time, work, editing time, just general life stuff, you get the idea. I could make a video on a “sign up” ride but I feel like I’d struggle with the camera with lots of people around. Who knows, I generally don’t plan a ride / trip until I’ve finished a video and then decide what’s next.

@@advanturest finding the time, so true hey! Especially something 7+ days. Maybe that's the 50K subscriber reward, quit the day job and do the Hunt 😅 Hey whatever pops up, I'm keen to see / get motivated by your next one! Often ends in me planning a day / 2-day adventure; you're knocking it out of the park.
@advanturest Жыл бұрын
@@kickjack Cheers mate. Glad my videos motivate you to get out there. My current income from these KZbin videos is about $50 a month. As much as I'd love to quit my day job I somehow can't see that happening😂. Saying that, I have long service leave coming up and I'd like to do a long trip somewhere. I've been thinking the south island of NZ. Its so pretty over there. For now the plan is to try do one weekend trip a month, and also win the lotto 😂

Didn't take that banana long to go brown!

It was still good. Another day and I don't think so 😂 It actually held together better than I thought, I normally put bananas in my bag and they get squashed. thought I'd try on top. I'd do it again!

one beer ? you do know that is illegal in the northern territory !! no one is allowed to have just one beer !!! ha ha ha
@advanturest Жыл бұрын
Haha 😂 But officer, it says it has 2.7 beers inside 😂 On a serious note, I did have 3 beers on me but saved the others for night 2. I normally have a minimum of 2 a night but this was my first trip without a backpack and believe me I had no spare room 😂

That app you mentioned in this isn’t free it’s $8
@advanturest Жыл бұрын
So it is, I didn’t remember paying for it but I’ve just checked my account and sure enough i did pay the $8. Good pick up! I still think $8 is pretty good considering all the other ones similar I’ve seen are a subscription. $8 well spent.
